There are ten Liber Brassica books in the game written in various languages. Together, they give details on how to craft Xanthe's Earring of Nature (named after the first person to discover the recipe, Xanthe Ravenwolf). The recipe also yields the 59th level druid spell Protection of the Cabbage (named for a long-running inside joke with the EQ community).

Combine the following nine ingredients in a forge or New Tanaan Forge (no-fail combine, only use one of each):

* Demi-Sec Champagne
* Mistletoe Cutting Sickle
* Golden Idol of Tunare
* Blessed Fishing Rod
* Star Ruby Encrusted Stein
* Ceremonial Solstice Robe
* Lotus Pie
* Misty Thicket Picnic
* Lucky Cabbage

The ingredients each take high tradeskill ability to craft, but they're also droppable, so they can be purchased from other players if necessary.

The results are Xanthe's Earring of Nature (DRU/ALL), and Protection of the Cabbage, a 59th level druid-only spell. If you are not a druid, go see Rebecca Cabbageleaf in Fungus Grove at -1449.70, -803.12, -276.99.

You say, 'Hail, Rebecca Cabbageleaf'

Rebecca Cabbageleaf seems lost in thought and looks up only briefly from her work. 'Oh, hello ______, welcome to the New Thicket Inn! If you'll excuse me, I'm a bit busy copying this [scroll]. I'll be with you in a moment to chat, or to trade if you've come about the [earring]'

You say, 'What earring?'

Rebecca Cabbageleaf looks up again, 'Oh, have you come about the earring then? That's wonderful! As you probably know, the druids have recently completed an ancient ceremony, and some delightful people who weren't druids were able to participate. Sadly though, only druid's were able to use the Earrings of Nature that were created with the ceremony. I've been collecting spare earrings of Nature from those who can't use them, and giving an Earring of the Solstice in return. It's a good deal all around, as we both can benefit from the trade. If you have an earring of Nature to trade, just give it to me and I'll happily swap you, and if you don't like it, you can give it back.'

Give her your Xanthe's Earring of Nature to receive an Earring of the Solstice (ALL/ALL).

Combine lvl requirement
# Oct 02 2004 at 1:09 AM Rating: Default
On 10/2 tried this combine with a lvl 7 mage, it will not even let me put the items in the forge, let alone try the combine. Silly way to nerf the item, dont put a Req level in it, no, ninja in a req level on the combine so you don't know till after you have bought all the items 8(.
RE: Combine lvl requirement
# Oct 19 2004 at 5:51 PM Rating: Decent
Just did a combine with a lv 5 druid today. LVing one up for my friend and I thought she would like an earring of the solstice.

When you say it wouldn't even let you put them in, were you using the tradeskill window? If you weren't doing this already, I suggest that you click "experiment" before doing tradeskills the manual way. The slots on the tradeskill UI are fake. They are only for showing needed ingredients.
RE: Combine lvl requirement

You are incorrect. This combined worked successfully on my 44 shaman recently.

This is false - perhaps having some lag problems with the area or trying to use a cultural forge or something.

I did this combine today with my level 12 chanter.

I've done it at level 1 with every manaclass character I've made.
RE: Earring of Soltice
# Jul 04 2006 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
I agree. Even with the proliferation of FT, excuse me, mana regen items nowadays, this is still an affordable and rather nice twink item for any class that uses mana (including hybrids). I've done this with multiple characters between 1 and 25, just did it a minute ago with a necro as a matter of fact. Quick and easy (the only thing that SOE has left as such . . .).

If you do this quest 2 times for the Druid-only earring set, is there anything you can do with the 2nd spell scroll for PotC? Destroy or use for something else? Would be nice if SoE made it a hand-in quest for a random spell like the parchments.

Ten Liber Brassica books
# Mar 04 2004 at 2:03 AM Rating: Decent
There are ten Liber Brassica books in the game written in various languages

What does this mean? Where are they now. Why is there existance not documented by Lucy? What else do they say? Any secret incantations or formulations that may assist a devoted wizardess in opening further pathways to the sublime?
RE: Ten Liber Brassica books
# Aug 11 2004 at 5:34 PM Rating: Default
The Liber books are still in the game, at least most of them. I couldn't find the Skyshrine book when I checked after the revamp, but it still may be there somewhere.

The books are considered to be 'written' in the various languages, but the reading of books has been broken for some time (it ignores your language skills and lets you read anything). This has been going on at last mention since before Planes of Power and perhaps as far back as Luclin.

To check and see what language a book is written in, you can Identify it. For a readable object it will give a language the book is written in as well as the lore for the item. But again, the language books are written in is meaningless to the game now, as anyone can read anything.

A little research before posting is a good thing. Here are the Liber Brassica books in Lucy. Some of them even have the book text.

All the books are still in the game, though I believe they are all written in Common now. You can still find them by going to the individual vendors who sold them originally.

The text of the books provided clues to the nine tradeskill recipes that make up the components for this quest, as well as some role-playing background flavor text.

Well, I tried to go and buy some items to do the quest, and as I was in the bazaar I found the Demi-Sec Champagne. Low and behold, I couldn't purchase it off of a single trader. What a bummer!

If anyone can tell me why, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Can Druid get Solstice?
# Dec 26 2003 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent
The description above reads, "If you are not a druid, you can give your Earring of Nature to Rebecca Cabbageleaf in Fungus Grove, and she will give you an Earring of the Solstice (ALL/ALL)."

Can a Druid do this quest and turn in the Earring of Nature in exchange for the Earring of Solstice? I ask because of the "If you are not a Druid..."

Then, do the quest again and receive the Earring of Nature?

Yes, my druid has both. Just make sure you turn the FIRST one in for the solstice earring, BEFORE you combine the second, or it will poof due to lore status.

Safe way to Rebecca
# Aug 26 2003 at 1:04 PM Rating: Excellent
As a druid the safest way I have found to get there is port into Twilight Sea. Invis yourself if you want. This zone is lvl 20-40 and run to the castle. Keep going up stairs until you are at the top and looking at what looks like a giant hoop. Click on the hoop and you will zone into a safe point in Fungus Grove. Then succur to the outpost. You will land in water when you succur but there is nothing here that will hurt you. Rebecca is found in one of the buildings alone.

Or you could just run into Echo Caverns from Shadow Haven near the soul binder. Take a left then a right. Straight through the door, where it splits again take a right then an immediate left and you are at the zone to FG. When you pop in you are in the outpost. That would be safer than porting into TS. Considering if you haven't killed any elementals, you have to invis your self in the castle. (Just a thought =) Plus if you are a druid, SoW yourself in the Nexus and levi (or SoE if you are 54+) and Camo yourself if you are that paranoid. Also, why not do the Traders of the Haven quest https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1449 while you are there. I like having another place to sell with good faction. Especially when doing baking trade skills. Daliea Saeiersa sells meat spits and various other baking supplies. Amulet of the Haven (which is the reward for the quest) has a built in faction modifier as well. Ack.. there I go on a tangent. Anyway might as well do both quests at the same time since the quest npc's are close together. And by the way, I went from apprehensive to amiable doing the Traders of the Haven quest 2 times. Can't hurt.
