Weapon Update
# Jul 23 2005 at 3:01 AM Rating: Decent
As of today, I note the stats shown here need to be updated. This is a considerably better newbie weapon now. And it's a hoot! It's a blunt scimitar for us Druids. Of course...there are better weapons, but I think it's great as a "First" Druid weapon quest. I traded in my Glooming Deep Mace (well, destroyed the mace anyway). Good job Devs.

Oh, and maybe I'll get off my **** and post new stats and a pic. But...not until I get some sleep.
No Drop
# Jul 07 2005 at 4:22 PM Rating: Decent
This item is now No Drop and is listed as a 1HB. What's going on? I had given this item to my Rogue to hold onto and now she can't ever give it back. And, whats with is being a Scimitar, but is 1HB?!? Has SOE completely lost all their marbles? This makes no sense at all.

1HB???
# Jul 05 2005 at 7:33 AM Rating: Decent
I did this quest not too long ago on my druid and instead received a 1hand blunt weapon that gave no wisdom bonus. I was in my late teens, and had not worked up 1hs at all. Would that have something to do with why I received the 1hb weapon instead? I'd appreciate the input of anyone who has done this quest lately.

Hafling Druids excel at 1H Blunt. Maybe in a future patch, they'll make it a Mace. But, it's a Hafling Druid weapon...thus... 1H Blunt.

I sent my new druid out to get the Scimitar and did. My question is who exactly do I give it to to get it sharpened?
Really not worth it.

I wouldn't bother doing this quest unless you just feel like doing a quest. The weapon stats are worse then a vendor bought scimitar which is 5 Dam 25 Delay. At 10th level do you really need +2 Wisdom? The only thing it has going for it is that it's magic, so you can hit the mobs immune to normal weapons. Then again how much can you get a Velium scimitar for now days? And if you still are using it around 25th level it procs for 12DD. Or if you save up your PP I'm sure the Velium etched stone maces are going cheap now days. Just kill a lot of rats if your just starting out. Look for rat tails. They sell for 1pp each. Not bad for a 1st (or 2nd?) level mob.
Tradeable???

My druid did this quest today. The picture is correct. The item is not NO DROP. I dropped the item and picked it up to make sure.

Oh man ... just when you think Halflings get a break, check out the scimitar the Surefall Glade druids get. Better stats(+1 sta, +2 wis), better delay (27), more damage (6). <whine>

ADDITION: ack! Theirs only weighs 2.0 stones to our 8.5 also !!

Don't complain until you see the Wood Elf/Half Elf Druid newbie Quest scimitar:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=13859

No WIS whatsoever plus its NO DROP. On the other hand, for Druids below level 14 you will get your kills predominately by meleeing and just using your magic for buffs/Damage Shield and not for the mediocre DD spells. So having +2 WIS on your weapon is not really an issue until you focus less on melee and more on magic when it comes to kills which starts to happen in the teen levels.

On a side note, this Quest is perhaps the most fun out of all the newbie Druid scimitar weapons due to the strategy involving Rusbek and his two faithful hounds, Cozy and Rufus.

By the way, I see that quite a few people have trouble with this encounter. Here's a hint: Cozy/Rufus are ANIMALS. Druids get their first Fear Animal spell at Level 1. See where I'm going with this? Rusbek can be dealt with easily once you send his dogs heading for the hills.

It is true that humans and half elves are the least played druids, and half elves have dismal wisdom (mine has 75, unbuffed).
but i always thought it was the wood elves that were played more as druids. makes sense, seeing as the have (probably) the best druid stats and good RP value, so maybe thats why wood elf druids dont have a newbie armor quest. maybe
RE: Half-elves get better

Wood elves do get a newbie armour quest. Leafrunners stuff is what you get and you can initiate the quest in the bard guild in kelethin.

RE: Half-elves get better
# Mar 30 2004 at 3:34 AM Rating: Decent
You DO mean you can initiate the quest in the DRUID guild in kelethin, don't you? it is silly to havea druid only quest in a bard guild.

Verant seems to want more people to play human/half elf druids because overall their newbie quests have much better rewards in terms of armor, as a comparison of stats reveals (includes stats from weapon):

Moss Toe armor: total AC 28 (STR+1 STA+4 DEX+3 WIS+9 CHA+1 HP+14)

Pine Druid armor: total AC 38 (STA+8 DEX+12 AGI+3 WIS+16)

Granted, human have lousy melee stats, and half elves are deficient in wisdom, but this armor more than makes up for those problems. Of course, halflings will still be the most popular choice for druids, but it is nice to see some racial balancing for those who are considering new characters.
Is there more

Seeing as thought this is an Initiate weapon, could be a progressive quest like the Symols of Tunare?

this Weapon is NOT attaninable at level 8, the Mob you have to kill for this is Level 12, With two level 8 Dogs that Guard him, even in a group of level 8's it would be a Bit difficult, besides who is going to get a Group of LEVEL 8 CHARACTERS for this...solo i cay 14 to attain Unless uber Twinked of Course then maby 13

My Druid, now level 9, killed the MOB at level 8. It took one death, but with grasping roots, and invoke lightning, whirlind wind, I managed to kill mr. inhospitable. His wolves were away, and I lured him out snared, the grasped him. It is possible at 8, you just have to humiliate yourself a -little-

Halfling Druids have long been forsaken by Verant. Their small armor size greatly curtails the list of equipment they can potentially wear as compared to what's available to the other druid races.

This is the natural consequence of being a small race, and it's one that I accept. However, what makes it unfair is that there are so many *more* medium size armors than there are small size armors. I would expect there to be a roughly equal number; being small as opposed to medium shouldn't be a penalty, it should just be a differentiating factor between the races. Ideally, while Halflings might not be able to use Armor A, they should have a small-sized Armor B, which Humans & Co. couldn't use. Halfling gear should be different, not limited in quantity or quality.

As it currently stands, there generally is no "Armor B" counterpart to any given medium-only armor, however.

The second strike against Halfling Druids is the fact that they all worship Karana instead of Tunare, and the perquisites of Karanic faith have been far less developed by Verant than those of the Tunarians, favoritism which has created an artificial imbalance among the races. With the release of the Plane of Growth, Tunare-worshiping Druids could quest for Gloves of the Earthcrafter, which are quite potent for the difficulty required to obtain them.

Also, the Tunare Druids can quest for the famous and easily available Warden Symbol of Tunare to cast mana-free roots, an extremely useful ability in any number of situations, and one for which there is currently no analog among the Druids of Karana, since the parallel quests for the Karana faith amulets haven't been implemented yet. What's more, they probably will not be ingame for some time to come, considering that Verant seem to have imputed a very low priority to them, despite the stark disparity this presents between Tunarian and Karanic Druids for as long as these quests remain absent.

Whereas Halflings were once the most popular racial choice among Druids, now they are far behind the Wood Elves. This is because Verant has introduced new material specifically for the elves and their ilk, increasing their utility and appeal, but has done nothing of the sort for the Halflings. The playerbase is sensitive to this, and recently created Druids are primarily elfin.

I don't ask for much--really, just the mimimum of tolerability: to be granted equal opportunites to those of my fellow druids who happen to come in a different shape, or worship a different deity.

IMO, I feel Verant is justified in making Halfling Druid armor SLIGHTLY inferior and harder to come by. Why? Halflings recieve a 20% xp bonus, yet as far as the Druid stats are concerned, where do they pay for this? They certainly aren't the lowest race in the way of wisdom for Druids. If all the Druid armor was made to be wearable by any race, there would be no reason to make a Druid that wasn't a halfling.

Halflings are balanced as a race with the others for each class. Melee halflings are slightly weaker, but will level faster to overcome this weakness. The Druid and Ranger halflings, however, don't suffer any negative effects from their stats, so they must have to pay back that extra 20% somewhere. That place is in equipment.

My own druid is a halfling for that very purpuse. I made a druid to port and farm. The idea was making plat quickly to outfit my other characters. So I didn't want to spend months leveling up. Without any twinking at all, I leveled 1-30 in just over two weeks. That was just wearing my newbie quest gear and whatever else I picked up along the way. All the actual cash he made went to other characters. Now, after a little bouncing back and forth between characters, I've leveled my Druid to the point where I can farm with the other druids in Rathe. But that's a differant matter.

Bottom line is that every race and class has their strengths and weaknesses. Just because we don't have everything that everyone else does, doesn't mean that it was unfair or that we've been "foresaken". Do humans get racial hide ability? Do half elves start with remotely decent wisdom? Do wood elves... er.. ever get a robe graphic? No. If the gear is so important, then choose a differant race. But I'm betting that anyone who is a Halfling Druid over 30 has come to realize that there is a good incentive to stay a halfling rather than switch.

Be whatever race and class fits what you're looking to play, but don't whine when you don't have everything that someone else does. The option is always there for you to change and no race/class has it all.

It's halfling only because VI is creating newbie class armor/gear quests for each race. they started with the friendly neighborhood Dark Elves, and are now doing it for Pecks. Thus, if you want human class weapon, wait a month and i suspect Qeynos/SFG is next.

They finally put in a low level weapon for druids! 1hs with 2 wis is perfect for newbie Druids setting out to get there epic when they get up in levels...1hs with wis for druid are hard to find.
secondary?
# Apr 11 2002 at 9:39 PM Rating: Decent
Ummm...druids can put this in secondary. Too bad they can't duel wield :) I suppose the +2 wis is good enough of a reason...if they don't already have a Testimite of Vaneer before they upgrade from this weapon.

On a more serious note: what kind of graphic is this? Old world scimitar, or luclin grade graphics for a scimiatar? (if its luclin, I'm disapointed. Realy wish they would reserve the new graphics for items that are either from Luclin or Uber. Guess I'm wishing for too much, eh?)

Since druids do not get the dual wield skill, then they can not equip a weapon in the secondary hand, even if the weapon only lists druids for class and is listed as useable in secondary slot.
