My 14th level dfruid on Xegony is currantly equipped with a scimitar of the leafrunner that is a 1hB. 1hs is at 60, but when i logged on, post merger, i started seeing skill-ups in 1hb. Turnes out, the weapon changed it's type. What is up with that?
good?

try surefall
# Jun 29 2003 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
the surefall druid-equippable newbie quest scimitar gives you +2 to wisddom, but you have to do the surefall armor quests first (I assume, because i just completed the quest without doing the armor, and it failed).
Look at it this way
# Jun 04 2003 at 1:25 AM Rating: Decent
I completed this whole quest and I have to say ya the weapon isn't the best weapon around but this is how I look at it. 1. I now have a decent scimitar and nice armor 2. I made it to level 9 just doing the quest. This was alot more fun then just camping an area and leveling. Sure I had to have help with getting the buned out lightstone cause I couldn't kill the wisps and also needed help with darish and the one legionare that dropped the pelvis, tibia and footbones all in one drop (what luck). Everything else I did on my own including killing faeries to get the dust (which at level 7-8 was no easy task) So don't knock it. I think if more newbies did the quest they would enjoy themselves alot more. I know I did.

s'pose that's just it, isn't it? people are always ******** about quest items. but surely it's in the fun of the quest rather than solely about what you get out of it? otherwise what's the point in playing?

nice for a level 2
# May 02 2003 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
By the time I got this item, I was already using a Velium Etched Stone Mace that I bought at an early age for 20pp(what a steal at the time). I pretty much stashed it away never to be seen again. Then when it came time to clear room, I found the nearest lowest level druid(level 2) and gave it too him. He was, shall we say, ecstatic.

It's No drop, how did you give it to him?

The person is playing on Firiona Vie server where NO DROP tags are a rarity on items due to the Trivial Loot Code in effect...

Or, the person has this scimitar confused with a rusty one (highly doubtful, although this scimitar is perhaps the worst when compared to the other racial Druid newbie Quested weapons)
hmmmm...
# Feb 22 2003 at 3:20 AM Rating: Decent
But if you are a newbie and have no help, this is a pretty hard quest to complete, darish is no pushover, and you need decent equipment just to get to him....Just my opinion
come on guys

people ***** so much. this is about the same as fine steel. Im pretty sure its much lighter AND its freakign magic. im not gonna give the "back in my day, when I played eq...." but back in my day (grin) you begged and prayed for a magic weapon, hopefully without crap for stats. Like the noobie armor, its about the same ac as leather WITH stats AND bonus... thats very nice. AND on top of all that you simply hold the crap off the stuff you would be killing anyways. AND.. (ranting now) unless I read it wrong all you need are the beads... and your in crushbone probably for the pulvic bone, foot bone, fingerbone and the belt... anyways.

Think like this. your gonna be killing them anyways, and one part of the quest leads to the next.

anyone that complains about this never tried to kill a willowwisp BEFORE you knew they were invulnerable....

besides some of the noobie stuff has HORRIBLE ratings. AND another point in case. they are tying to even stuff out in the game. lets say there almost no druid humans, thats why their gear is nice. to make them more favorable to play.

AND - and... its usually a one handed blunt you get at first. and technically most of the good weapons are one handed slash. wich is missleading. and this lets you work on that skill.

Hell at lower levels you shouldn't expect to be uber enough to have decent weapons! What would be the point of having low levels then? Lets all start out UBER!!!NOT (does anyone still use this stupid word?)

see you forget that people like me start the game with no friends and of course no money.

when i started playing it was only like 1 or 2 months ago and i knew nothing, i found it all out by myself, i still today, at lvl 34, wear the leaf runner newb armor leggs and boots, even though i am in a guild i don't ask for donations from them, i have earned all the things i have by eaither killing things or by a donation from a port or two.

i had my crapy wep you get at lvl 1 till i found a better one off an orc in wc at lvl 12 or so

if i had known about this entire set of quests i would have done it all but i didn't know this was around till about lvl 15 or so, so i did it and i feel it was worth the change from patchwork armor and the tarnished Scimitar
This is nice for the level.

This is nice. Look at the halfling ranger newbie weapon and tell me that this is that bad. At least this is Magic.
This is a good Item

I remember when I started the best magic weapon for a Wood Elf Druid was the bloodforge hammer. If this had been available I could have gone out and farmed wisps earlier to get the cash to buy the uber items that I needed earlier. I like this item because I can actually remember being a druid that needed something like this. Cry all you want, because there will always be people that will. Of course it would be nice if there were more stats, but then someone would whine about it not having enough. I think the game is better today than when I started and it is items like these that have made it that way.

A Thought
# Aug 03 2002 at 4:11 PM Rating: Excellent
This is just a thought. A while back I decided to change servers. Just start over no character transfer, no firends on the new server, just like new. It was hard. It was fun. My character today is 36, but I remember when I was first starting out. Magic weapons for a new person with no money and no friends is really hard to get. It may only have a damage of 5 but it is fairly quick, and guess what? Its free. You get it about at the level when you start to encounter magic damage only mobs, and ITS FREE.

I have to say I very much agree with you Moon, as a lvl 56 Druid of course i view this as not that great, but people just need to remember these quests are made for NEWBIES, hell if i had this when i started i'd be very happy i had a cracked staff till lvl 12. People need to stop viewing the loot from these from a twinking view point, if you do you'll never like any of it.

Just my thoughts :)

stop!

sick of everyone complaining about these, jeeze, as atianax said the woodelf armor gives tons of stamania and good str to make up for it, and i'm sure thats the case with every other newbie quest, if one part sucks, another parts good.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 29 2002 at 9:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It's a lighter Velium Scim without the Proc. Still, a nice Scim but not nearly a nice as some of the other newbie Weapons.

VI just doesn't get it? I beg to differ. VI's only job now that the game is up and running is class-balanceing and new content. While they succeed brilliantly with devloping new content (a new expansion every year), before the introductiion of the "newbie armor" quest little was ever done to balance out the popular and un popular classes. I case you haven't noticed there is a woodelf druid in Norath about every 12 ft. giving the other races and classes better weapons is a simple way to make those classes more attractive to players starting a new character.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 30 2002 at 8:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) nah, dude. i think that you just don't get it.
You gotta be kidding me
# Jul 29 2002 at 7:04 PM Rating: Default
Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all the other newbie weapons get things like STATS? this thing just seems pathetic by comparison, like a wizzie weapon minus the good points.
RE: You gotta be kidding me

as i understand it verant is useing the newbie armors and weapons to blanace the races. So that my be why the more perfered race/class combos it get lamer items. Tho i beleave the halfling druid scimitar has atleast 2 wis and some str, and the high elf cleric breastplate has some ungoddly amount of wis for newbie armor
RE: You gotta be kidding me

Halfling druid scimitar is 5 damage 30 delay, +2 wisdom and weighs a friggin ton. Just FYI
RE: You gotta be kidding me
# Jul 30 2002 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
far as i can tell, none of the wood elf weapons give stats, but their armor seems to more than make up for it. i mean, wood elf ranger armor adds a total of 11 str and 29 sta. while most people seem to be none too fond of sta, nearly 30 points early on sure adds up

On the topic of balancing, the halfling warrior wepon has 10 stamina on it, so I think verant is doing just that, trying to balance things out, but they still should have given this a stat or 2 =P

# Jul 30 2002 at 5:00 PM Rating: Default
Umm, it just plain sucks. Period. Even for the level at which it's "obtainable". What a joke. Balance issues aside, who in thier right mind would equip something like this?
Here's what will actually happen: toon runs around and completes all the legs of the quest, gets the "reward item" (note the sarcasm expressed by the mention of "reward item"), and promptly stuffs it in the bank where it is immediately and succintly forgotten for the rest of said players EQ life.
That's the more likely reality.

Peace out

You clearly don't understand how the low end game works. At 24/5 this is BETTER than A_Scimitar that can be bought for 8pp... which can be a lot of money for a NEW player to EQ. Add to the fact that it is MAGIC and it starts looking good for a relatively easy item to get.
