Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

About Heroic Adventures

- The Tower of Rot heroic adventure scales as low as Level 65 and up to current maximum level.
- Scale is based on the highest level player present in the zone and affects difficulty, loot quality, and mob levels.
- There is some variation/randomization in the task steps you'll be assigned as you progress through the task.
- Time of completion will vary by your group's makeup (anywhere from 30-90+ minutes).
- Collection items appear as ground spawns midway through tasks (you'll see an emote indicating their appearance).
- Named mobs (or their PHs) spawn midway through tasks (usually, but always, at the same time collection items appear).
- These tasks have individual 3-hour lockout timers (timer gained upon completion).

Experience in Heroic Adventures

- Mobs in these instances grant some experience, but the bulk of experience is earned upon task completion.
- As of a patch in November 2014, less difficult tasks were tuned to reward less experience and more difficult ones were tuned to reward more.
- For an added experience bonus, check out Guard Hamarn's "Daily Tasks".

This is a heroic adventure (1-6 players) that begins with Brendaleen Thundershield (click for map image) on the zone-in level of the Tower of Rot.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:

The bandits and tomb raiders cause a commotion as Guardian Roger Macholeth appears within the tower.

Known loot from this named:

Mallard Mask
Mana Goggles
Serrated Limb Lopper

TASK IN DETAIL

========================================================================
TRIGGERING THE TASK
========================================================================

You say, 'Hail, Brendaleen Thundershield'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'Take a look around you, _____. To a pessimist, this tower may present as a hopeless deathtrap, but as an opportunist, I see gold glittering in these rotting walls. Untold [treasures] lie in the rubble, just waiting to be claimed.'

You say, 'What treasures?'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'Rather than despair at my unfortunate situation, I've spent my time scavenging, collecting a variety of artifacts and other curios. Some say it's a fool's errand, swearing that I'll live out my days, trapped in this tower, but I don't plan to die within these walls. In fact, I think I may have found a [trinket] that can help me escape with all my treasure!'

You say, 'What trinket?'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'I found a crystal at the bottom of the tower, buried beneath some rubble. Under all the dirt and grime, it radiated the same eerie color that emanates from the portals. It must have been important, because as soon as I got my hands on it, the tower scions rushed me. I escaped with my life, but the crystal was [lost] along the way.'

You say, 'Lost?'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'I imagine a bandit or raider has their thieving hands on it by now. They couldn't possibly know the true value of the crystal. We need to recover it, and use it to close the portals. Without the constant influx of creatures, I may be able to make a run for it and escape with my treasure, leaving some behind for you of course! So will you help me, [yes] or [no]?'

You say, 'No, I'm not going to help you! Do it yourself'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'What, you don't like treasure?' The dwarf rolls her eyes and sighs, 'Well, if you won't do it for me, then do it for all the helpless victims trapped within this tower. If those portals remain active, they'll never be able to escape. Surely you can say [yes] to helping them.''

You say, 'Yes, fine, OK!'

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'That's the spirit!' The treasure hunter lowers her voice, 'Let's go somewhere a little more private to discuss the details. Let me know when you're [ready] and I'll meet you near the stairwell.''

You have been assigned the task 'Brendaleen's Scheme'.

Help Brendleen close the portals within the Tower of Rot so that others may escape.

You say, 'Ready!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Tower of Rot.

========================================================================
STEP #1
========================================================================

Speak to Brendaleen 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Speak to Brendaleen once you've moved to a more private location.

If You Get This Step: Hail her.

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'Grave robbers and bandits roam the floor above. After you've reacquired the crystal from the thieves, clear a path to one of the portals. When the route from the portal to the stairwell is clear, use the crystal and keep your fingers crossed. With any luck, the portal will close. I'll stay here, guarding our treasure. Good luck!'

========================================================================
STEP #2
========================================================================

Recover a Pulsing Phase Crystal from bandits or brigands within the tower 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Recover the pulsing crystal from bandits or brigands a couple floors above Brendaleen.

If You Get This Step: Kill bandits and brigands until you loot a "Pulsing Phase Crystal".

=====================

Recover a Pulsing Phase Crystal from tomb raiders or grave robbers within the tower 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Recover the pulsing crystal from grave robbers or tomb raiders a couple floors above Brendaleen.

If You Get This Step: Kill tomb raiders and grave robbers until you loot a "Pulsing Phase Crystal".

========================================================================
STEP #3
========================================================================

Clear a path to the portal 0/15 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Once you've located the portal, create an escape route by killing all creatures between the portal and the stairwell.

If You Get This Step: Kill gnolls and stoneshell pests between the stairwell and the portal.

=====================

Clear a path to the portal 0/13 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Once you've located the portal, create an escape route by killing all creatures between the portal and the stairwell.

If You Get This Step: Kill miners, undead, and mucks between the stairwell and the portal.

=====================

Clear a path to the portal 0/12 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Once you've located the portal, create an escape route by killing all creatures between the portal and the stairwell.

If You Get This Step: Kill mucks and sporalis between the stairwell and the portal.

=====================

Clear a path to the portal 0/14 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Once you've located the portal, create an escape route by killing all creatures between the portal and the stairwell.

If You Get This Step: Kill trilobites, bubonians, and devourers between the stairwell and the portal.

========================================================================
STEP #4
========================================================================

Defeat the tower scions guarding the portal 0/2 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: You must defeat the tower scions before attempting to close the portal.

If You Get This Step: Kill 2x "a tower scion".

========================================================================
STEP #5
========================================================================

Use the Pulsing Phase Crystal to close the portal 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: Stand near the active portal and use the Pulsing Phase Crystal.

If You Get This Step: Using the crystal near the portal will either close the portal and spawn Commander Meredith (aggro's), or will fail to close it and spawn "a famished feeder".

========================================================================
STEP #6
========================================================================

Defeat the attacker that ambushed you! 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: ?

If You Get This Step: Kill either "a famished feaster" or "Commander Meredith".

========================================================================
STEP #7
========================================================================

Return to Brenadleen 0/1 (Tower of Rot)

Task Window Says: ?

If You Get This Step: Hail, dialogue to complete.

Brendaleen Thundershield sighs with disappointment, "So the portal didn't close? Well, I'm not ready to give up just yet. I'll have to acquire another crystal and try again. Let's [leave] this area for now and return to the safety of the main floor.'

--or--

Brendaleen Thundershield says 'Well done, _____! With every portal closed, we get one step closer to having a safe escape route! Let's [leave] this area for now and return to the safety of the main floor.''

only took 16 brigand kills to get the Pulsing Phase Crystal this trip. Though the previous 2 were 24 and 25 kills. Allowed me to speed through the mission in 34 minutes. I didn't need a rest period. It is easier now with better gear, but a few times still on the edge.

Looks like portal always appears in the extreme SW corner. It's hard to locate the portal first "on the ground" since there are always mobs which see thru all invis en route, unless you have a rogue with you. What I found is if you kill a mob that's generally between the ramp and the portal you get an update. If you kill a mob that is not, you get no update. So you can use mob kills as a kind of compass. Watch out for the mucks that not only see thru all invis but also like to hide behind objects so if you're short a kill, scout behind things. Gotta check everywhere. I found the second-rarest one, Chattering Teeth, hidden right behind the portal!

Doing this one regularly until I finally get the last collectibles I need.

The "Kill 12" option seems to be the most common. Have had the "Kill 13" option twice in a row now so that one is still in play. Haven't had to Kill 14 or 15 once yet and I've done this mission about 20x. Need one more collectible and then I'm done with it.

Collectibles: Be sure to check the top of "stalagmites" (for want of a better word) and the tops of broken walls. I've found a couple this way which were impossible to see from the ground. I find the majority, 3 out of 4, or even 4 out of 4, are found on the upper floor---the one without see-all-invis mobs.

Finished 9th time and finally got my Fluttering Heart. 9 should be a decent sample. Here's how the collectibles dropped:

1 Undead Spider
5 Inedible Goo
5 Reanimated Wall Brick
6 Twitching Bone Chips
5 Bristling Animal Pelt
1 Fluttering Heart
3 Chattering Teeth
6 Wriggling Antennae
4x I didn't find a collectible

Done with this HA!

I had an earlier question about the minimum level to request this mission and whether or not Marks were earned by anyone under lvl 85. At level 80, you can request this mission and receive Marks! At 80, the payout ranges depending on which step#3 you get...the lower 0/12 paid out 59 Marks; were as 0/15 paid out 62.

A side noteBold Text: Guardian Roger Macholeth did spawn for us first time around...after reading the previous posts (on higher level chars doing the mission)....it seems as though Roger is NOT dumbed down in level for 4 level 80's. He was RED and wiped the group in 7 hits or less, each. Since he hit on avg. for 6k-11k (that was also capped in CS/CA aa's @ 80)...I'm gonna say he was still well above level 90-95, even though we were 4 level 80's. No way anyone under level 95+ would have a chance killing him. He also spawned the 2nd go 'round, but knew not to try him again, after the horrendous wipe the first time.

I hope someone finds this info helpful...the only reason we attempted this at 80, was to try and get Marks for the class specific weps, bought from Ethernere vendor for 260 marks. It was either do these or go do the Boomerang missions, which you need 50 gold tokens each. The thought of the 31 min lockout timer x 4 chars = well over 20-30 hrs with no exp at all...and that's assuming you get gold evey time. This will save us hours of boredom doing Boomerangs. Plus we can grind out reg/aa exp while getting Marks of Valor.

Edited, Jul 26th 2014 8:03am by Shuraz

next edit - chose to try as my rogue. level 100 , 8322 ac only (9325 buffed metal power source). brigands hit for 13.5k tops. mobs in basement were hitting 14.2k. end scions hit 14.4 and commander meredeth was 14.2k was close a few times, but I beat it. fully raid buffed. in 1 hour.

Here's what he drops:

Characters and mercs, quickly and violently. I think he's undead, but he did massive damage to my 100 Merc with Shining Bastion Rk. II on her. She was dead within three seconds of arriving at group.

I used weaponshield on my ranger and moved my cleric to a safe spot, dropped agro on Cleric and chanter and just waited for deaths and him to wander off. Rezzed everybody and went on with mission, leaving this guy alone.

I predict he will be tuned down in a future patch.
