Rusted Black Boxes  

I started a gnome chanter on a free account and hailed the warrior guild master so I could start on the Ak'Anon achievement.

Of course starting in Crescent I did indeed con indifferently, but he did not dismiss me either, I said I was an experienced hunter and the following occurred.
Manik Complten says, " You must show greater allegiance to the GemChoppers before we can speak with you. Search the hillls for rogue clockworks. Capitain Compolten shall accept two of their blackboxes and you shall prove your loyalty to our hall. Now that we all know, these items can be prelooted.

This quest actually starts with Jarah Reskan.

Jarah Reskan is at location 838, -465 in Ak'Anon.

You say, 'Hail, Jarah Reskan'

Jarah Reskan says 'Greetings, child. Welcome to Gemchopper Hall. I trust that you are a [warrior], or perhaps you are lost..?'

You say, 'I am a warrior'

Jarah Reskan says 'That is good news! We gnomes are not known for our love of battle so it is always good to bring new blood into our ranks. We shall prove our worth as warriors to all other races. For now, there is much to do in Ak'Anon. We need someone to take care of the [rogue] and [bandit] problems in the Steamfont Mountains.'

You say, 'I will take care of the rogue problem'

Jarah Reskan says 'We desire volunteers for the extermination of all rogue clockworks in the Steamfont Mountains. It appears they have gone haywire and refuse to return to service. When you destroy one, take its blackbox to [Manik Compolten].'

You say, 'Who is Manik Compolten?'

Jarah Reskan says 'Manik is a trainer within this guild. The clockworks are his responsibility. Speak with him - I am sure he is here somewhere.'

Manik Compolten is at location 894.36, -465.73 in Ak'Anon

You say, 'Hail, Manik Compolten'

Manik Compolten says 'Greetings, young one. I am Manik Compolten, High Watchman. Are you a [new warrior] or an [experienced fighter]?'

You say, 'I am an experienced fighter.'

Manik Compolten says 'Good. I require your talents to destroy rogue clockworks. After we sent the clockworks to destroy the Asylum of the Mad we found some of the clockworks went haywire and never returned. We must destroy them, not for the safety of the people, but to keep our technology from falling into the hands of any other nation. Go to the Steamfont Mountains and return their rogue blackboxes to me.'

rogue clockwork says 'Click... Whirr... Warning. Enemy... Attack. Destroy. Kill.'
rogue clockwork's corpse says 'This unit is terminally damaged... Tick... Broadcasting violation to other units.'

I've done this quest at least a dozen times (I stopped counting after 6) with my Wood Elf Druid. Every time I get the faction changes and some gold, but Manik still /con's indifferent and refuses to give me any more quests. Does this quest actually work for Wood Elf Druids??

22 Level Bard looking to raise faction decided to whack some clocksworks and start these Ak'Anon newbie quests. Got myself 5 rusty blackboxes to start and wandered over to warriors guild to find Manik Compolten, aka, Captain Compolten. I handed him 2 and he raised my factions, tossed me negligible experience and some silver. Would have been great if I was a newbie or lowbie. Tossed him 2 more and got the following message "Only 2 Blackboxes shall prove your worth to this hall". Got no money, no faction, no exp. Hey, cool. Only had to do it once. Had to camp. Will next hail him and others listed in the various Ak'Anon quests and see if I can get the rest of them. I'll let you know.

i have been killing rogue clockworks of late and i have been getting black box pieces and rusted black boxes both are no drop does it make a difference?

I tried giving him 4 boxes... he still does not offer me any more quests... how do I get the other dandy quests?

Make sure you give at least two rusted black boxes to Manik, otherwise you'll just lose it and get nothing.
