This quest screws your faction with the corrupt guards and the rogues. Corrupt guard faction is hard to cure, and the rogues will send a hit squad of gards after you who are not merely corrupt, but also members of the rogue guild. The rogue guards are triggered by doing this quest.
Rogue faction is easy to fix, with the rogue errands quest. Get your faction with the rogues to "Looks upon you warmly", then give two stacks of brandy to the captain carson in the mermaid. The brandy quest only lowers rogue faction

...finding this guy! I think he is mostly on guard during the day shift and I find him down buy the docks alot. Very easy quest if you can spare the money to buy lots of flasks.
Why even buy the flasks? Wolten Grafe in the Knights of Thunder gives you a bone chip quest in which the reward is frequently rations or water. Do this enough and you'll have enough water to float a boat, and not a penny spent. :)

The best faction raiser is to buy as many brandy's as you can then give em to Captain Rohand. The only faction that goes down is Circe of Unseen Hands. The guards(not corrupt), merchants, and maybe a few others get to warmly after about 30 or so.

Long ago, when I was but a young Barbarian traviling abroud, I stumbled into the human city of Qeynos and was glowered at by the Guards, teetering on the Edge of being Killed on Sight. Looking for way to prove myself a friend of the city, I stumbled apun this guard in the Southern part of the city. As he patroled the town, he complained he was thirsty, and being a helpful person I handed him a flask of water from my pack. Low & Behold, my Faction went up. Seeing as the poor fellow was still complaining, I rushed to the merchant and stocked up on water, then followed the guard around, Handing him them 16 at a time. We wandered around the city, and soon I was looked apun warmly by him & his fellow guards. But humans, trust them not, as even their own Guards have been Currupted! I was headed to the bank, and two guards appired seemingly from no where and Killed me! But their curroption is unknown - and even the Guards still faithful to the law jumped in the fight. Needless to say, I found myself Invisable via a Enchanter's spell and dragging my corps home. Indeed, this is a grand way to raise your Faction with the Qeynos Guards - But don't Over-do it!
