Veil of Alaris Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This task is the second in a series of six; a solo task that begins with Troopwielder Baris in Argath at about -235, -235, 12.

Pre-requisites for requesting the task:
- Completion of "This is Argath"
- (no minimum skill level in Alaran Language)

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Baris'

Troopwielder Baris says '_____, you live! I had hoped Altara might send you. Erillion has intensified its barrage on the Neck, and the defensive barriers we placed there are weakening. Someone needs to shore up the walls. The last mechanic I sent to do the job took an arrow in alir eye. Will you [finish] the task?'

You say, 'I'll finish the task'

Troopwielder Baris says 'I hope you will have better luck. Take these bricks and mortar. Do what you can. If you survive, speak with Troopwielder Balath. Al has been looking for an outsider.'

You have been assigned the task 'Shoring Up Defenses'.

Erillion's magic wielders and catapults pound the Neck of Argath, wearing down the defensive barriers that protect the citizens and refugees. Troopwielder Baris has asked you to repair any broken barriers. Once you have done this, Troopwielder Balath has need for you.

Use the Brick and Mortar Baris gave you to repair any walls in the Neck that have been damaged, but be mindful of Erillion's projectiles.

You receive a "Brick and Mortar".

Repair 5 broken defensive barriers on the Neck 0/5 (Argath)

Midway down the neck, you'll find several destructible objects called "a wall". You'll have to attack these until they're below 80%, and then right-click your Brick and Mortar to repair them.

While you're doing this, dervishes called "a malevolent exhalation" will float by and nuke you for 7,500 dmg at a time. These mobs are attackable and killable.

Speak with Troopwielder Balath 0/1 (Argath)

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Balath'

Troopwielder Balath says '_____, I need all the outsiders I can get! The Erillions have intensified their barrage, and they are pummeling the Neck. Take a bow and strike down the siege troopers below us! But take heed: Their aim is improving. You must strike swiftly!'

You receive Balath's Bow.

Shoot 6 siege runners with Balath's Bow 0/6 (Argath)

At the bottom of the ramp that leads into the "belly" (lowest level; forge area), you'll see several spawns of non-combative siege runners. You need to equip Balath's Bow and right-click it, then try to target the siege runners as they move towards the ramp.

Speak with Troopwielder Balath 0/1 (Argath)

You say, 'Hail, Troopwielder Balath'

Troopwielder Balath says 'That should quiet the enemy for a while. I have heard reports that Troopwielder Latakan needs assistance, though.'

It took me a while to figure out the timing of the bow, but what ended up working well for me was to stand near the bottom of ramp, with shot ready to click, and my mouse right on the bottom edge of the forth center white tile on the ramp up. When the siege runner takes their first step onto the ramp, click. A few seconds later, the runner dies.

Also, as a word of warning... Do not attempt to kill them when they're near or at the top of the ramp. The bow going off will aggro at least half a dozen of the Alaran guards there.

Here's how I did it: I made sure I was in the 'base' zone. I'm told using the bow is bugged in pickzones. I didn't have any luck getting the bow to fire if I was standing at the top of the ramp's incline, so I jumped up on the edge of the wall at the top of the ramp. From there I could shoot them before they got close to the ramp. The wall I was standing on could block a significant chunk of LoS in the bottom of my screen so I needed to creep up to the very edge.

I have been doing this on my toons lately for the great aa exp. Normal exp for the quest is 2 percent, but Jonwin at 88 is getting 10 to 12 aa per go round.

On the siege runners I have found it works to mount up and stay on the ramp down. As the runners appear you can pick them of in singles backing up as they get closer. If you are patient and lucky you can kill 2 to 4 with one shot if they are lined up in file as they come up the ramp.

I often log on in the am to get quest. Finish after work, then can immediately request both 1 and 2 again.

I also found out last week you dont have to have them in the target window. Just activate the bow and wait for them to get in range, I lead about 3 squares in front of them then fire.

Ok so why are people doing this quest more than once? It doesn't show exp as being a reward. What's the appeal if that's not the case?

I've been doing this quest since I turned 85. Easy to do This is Argath and this one at the same time solo/molo. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to knock out both at the same time.

Ramp down is at the northwest corner of zone. Head down, but be careful... the mobs walking up might already be ..walking up. If they touch you/get very close/melee range, you instantly die. The mobs at the top of the ramp kill them automatically if they make it all the way to the top.... So if you didnt manage to kill them all in one go, just let them path up to the top..then go back down again and more will come.

Aim 3 squares ahead and fire. It will kill them. About 3 seconds after you kill them, your toon will make an animation like they are firing a bow. It's hilarious.

Best way to kill Siege Runners
# Nov 17 2011 at 9:01 PM Rating: Decent
Hi All,

OK following a few deaths I have established a sure fire way to get this done.

1) Equip the bow in primary
2) To use it you right click the bow
3) A target ring will appear, the bow is slow to fire so you have to aim ahead of the mob

I found if you go to the bottom of the ramp and position yourself on the first corner of the wall, this is quite close but out of agro range, remember it is a BOW = RANGE attack, do not get too close or they agro as soon as you 'fire' and your dead before your shot is completed.
Then if you look at the ramp going up you will see square patterns on the floor in sets of 2, fire your bow so the target circle comes up, aim at the 3rd set of squares going up the ramp, aim at the central one, you will quickly see were they path and when the mob is at the start of the ramp, heading up fire, FIRE.

They are killed and poof, and your mission updates.

Good luck

this was easy, you do not have to go to a bunch of walls. I just picked one, get it to 79% health and then rightclick your mortar clicky. When your coming down the spiral walkway there are paths off to the side as your coming down. Go down the path and the wall is there in front of one of the doorways in my case. There is a mob that roams past but even though it aggros, it doesn't hit or stay on you it continues to roam so a merk works find for this part of the quest.
