Viktor Snowborn says 'I fell overboard from the ship that I was traveling on. I was very sick and could not leave, and so the ship left me here. Yvette and Henry have saved my life. And so I painted my pictures for them. But now I can not paint. I have no [supplies].' You say, 'What supplies?' Viktor Snowborn says 'I need all supplies; brushes, canvas, paint. . . I can make these things with the right materials, but I do not have them. Maybe you [can get] them for me?' You say, 'I can get them for you.' You have been assigned the task 'Paint Supplies'. Grab the task Stop the Contamination. Yo can get it solo now. Kill all the wolfs. Drop task and repeat. Got all 3 whiskers in about 15min

I rank 'Paint Supplies' as the worst of all the quests to obtain the Crest. Hours of mind numbing zone clearing for all the drops.

I'm playing through all of the old lore of the game on FV. Love it. but this quest was a freaking nightmare. I spent 3 consecutive days approx 2-3 hours each each trying to farm (mass killing) these items so i could move. all i had to show or it was 1 berry of each time, 1 wolf whisker. After reading through some posts i found that some people said the drop rates where better in the instanced. 15 min into the OGV instance i had finished the quest on 2 characters. Absurd how different the drop rate was.

Collect these items via the instances. The nice thing about doing it this way is that in the instance there are no hungry predators. They are all replaced with regular animals so more rats and wolves to kill. The drops are all random. One instance I had a bunch of the red ones drop from rats. The next time was more blue. And if you pick up the instance during night time in game then you can knock out the arms of the dead quest real fast as it is packed with undead.

Some notes.
Viktor wanders back and forth between the ruins and the village, so just gotta check out those places (looks like during daylight he's at the ruins and then wanders back to house in NW at night.)
Like mentioned before, I got the rat parts in the instances given by Captain Hiran. I killed about 15 rats in Hills without a single drop and went to village and cleared all the rats (using a tracker) and got 2 of the bloodberries. Then I tried the instance and got all that I needed through 2 clearings of rats (like mentioned before, kill all the rats, zone out and grab task again.) The drop rate was still easily 3 to 1 on bloodberries over blueberries, but in about 60 rat kills outside the instance i never got a blueberry so it seems doing the instance is the way to go. First time there were about 10 rats, and probably 4 out of 5 had one of the berries, second time through I had close to 20 rats on track, probably would have gotten enough in just that clearing. So randomness can play in your favor.
I also got my 3 whiskers in one clearing of instance
I had my fine pelt from before so stayed away from bears in instance so dont know their drop rate.

30 Minutes solo 85 War. Took about 4 pulls i would run around zone pulling only wold, rat, bear if possible. only had my Ice golem illusion for DS and wiped all mobs. Found Quest dude in NorthWest building at 4pm game time
After turning in the final item, the following line appears in yellow, followed immediately by 3 faction hits. This is before accepting the reward from the quest rewards window.

I posted this on the Fine Bear Skin comments too, but will repost here so more people see it.
Spent 5 hours killing bears and other stuff in OGV, OGH, and both OGV instances.
I ended up going back into the static version of OGV and killed the three bears that spawned around loc -760, -1068. Got the Fine Bear Skin. Came back after repops, after slaughtering a dozen bears in the zone to no avail, and another bear at this location had the Skin again.
So, either I was extremely (un)lucky, but perhaps this is good place to start if you're having issues.
3 cycles - 3 Skins. This seems to be the spot. What a waste of 5 hours, wish I had known about this spot this afternoon... Hope this helps someone.

After pulling my hair out trying to get the rat items (branches) in the normal village zone, a guildie recommended I give the instance a try. Mind you I was doing quest for 4 chars at once. I managed to get all the drops in the instances (Rat, wolf, and bear). I used both instances.
A couple of things I noticed.
1) The instance zones did not respawn anything. I went as far one time as to pretty much clear the entire zone. Nothing respawned.
2) As long as you don't hail the guy in the village to begin the mission events, they never start. You can, however, after clearing zone of the critters go ahead and hail him to complete the mission. It will operate as if you had just zoned in.
3) Getting the instance during the game night does seem to increase the chances of undead. I zoned in once to find it was roughly 90% undead. I just deleted mission and got a new one.

What task/quest is the instance for?
Thanks for the info Lochrin. I decided to give the instance Stop the Contamination a try and what a big difference. In the instance you don't have to worry about doing the main part of it unless you hail Billik Broadwake. Its much easier finding rats in this instance. I would often find 2 to 3 clumped together too.

From 5pm to 7pm gametime I founbd him hanging out at "The Ruins". I'm not certain he will be there every day at those times, but its just another place to check for him if you cant wait until 11pm.

You can do the 'Stop the Contamination' quest to get the drops as long as you request the task during the day. If you get the task at night the zone will be full of undead.
didn't even completely clear zone...had to kill bears twice, but on second respawn they dropped 2 skins, wolfs were quick, rats were quick....no complaints here. Didn't even bother to use instance, place was empty when I got there
I found Viktor Snowborn spawn at -2470,610 .

have cleared the zone 7 or 8 times so far in stop the contamination task instances so far we have 8 wild bloodberry branches, 4 wild blueberry branches. 3 wolf whiskers and 1 fine bear skin. 3 of us doing the tasks so at this rate another 21-24 zone clearings for this task... so on average 7-8 hours per person to do this task for us

stop the contamination was the ultimate tip. Got all drops beyond bear skin there for 3 chars within 1 hour. now just need to find sometin to get that bear skin ...
'Stop the Contamination instance' was full of undeads on the 7th Hammer as of Nov.26th when I tried it 3 times, and each was filled with Undead MoBs. SO it isnt an option to get yer quest items without someone ganking yer MoBs

I can confirm these items drop in the instance task Stop The Contamanation.
Im doing it now as of this writing,havent seen the the bear skin yet but i have got plenty of both of the berries and all the wolf wiskers so far.
Zone looks like it repops,seen 2 undead skellys out by the zone line to oecangreen hills but other than that no other undead around that i seen so far.
Just get a merc of your choice and someone else to afk and grp with you and you can solo it,get mission and just dont hail to start the mission task and run around and kill till you loot what you need,prety straight foward and simple,mobs LB at 82.
Mobs also drop armor like elabarote stuff,got a chain tunic off the first kill.

Wolf whiskers drop off of normal or Infected Wolves.

found him in the NW home hanging around so perhaps he is there until 11p.m. or he just had not depopped yet this was around 4 a.m. game time

poachers are hell to get (you really need a tracker).... but the bear hide is really the hard part .... killed more than 100 bear (in instance and in real zone) and still did not get it ...
Get or have someone get the grp mission (stop the contamination works fine).
Zone in by hailing Koel.
Don't start quest, and roam the field for animals. Nothing pops if you dont start it, and the animals drop the parts. Also repop fairly fast.
No Ksing fools to deal with (like the Golden Army idiots on Veeshan) and no trans of undead..

Lochrin, you're a genius. Yes the instances do drop the items and no competition, no zone full of wisps instead of the mobs you need.
One problem for me so far is....zero wolf whiskers. I get some rat whiskers now and then, but no wolf whiskers off wolves or any other critter so far in the regular Village zone, the instanced one, nor in Hills.
Anyone have any advice on obtaining the wolf whiskers? I think I have killed 75 to 100 wolves.
BTW, in the instance the repops seem to be mostly what you don't want. (skellies, wisps, etc) So after awhile i just quit the mission and get a new one.

I'm having the same problems. Wolf whiskers seem to be rare more than uncommon. Fine bear skins weren't hard; only had to kill about 10 bears. Branches dropped off of probably 80% of the rats I killed. I hate that some of these tasks require multiple parts that seem rare for a piece of an aug that is good, but not great.
All the animals and wisps are on the same spawn timer. If you are trying to kill animals, kill off the wisps too or the zone starts to resemble a Christmas tree.
