|This task follows 'Portal Activation: Dangerous Ground' and is given by Archarcanist Kirstmycl at the pad near the market (-866, -603) in Katta Castrum.
You say, 'Hail, Archarcanist Kirstmycl'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Hello ______. What brings you to our fine [city]?'
You say, 'City?'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Well, that is interesting. I have been studying the teleportation [portals] for many years in order to refine our understanding of them.'
You say, 'Portals?'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'While we did not create the original portals, we have learned how to create them. If you are interested I can give you some [history] on the portals. Or maybe you are more interested in learning how to [use] the ones here in Katta Castrum.'
You say, 'I am more interested in learning to use them.'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'When we created the portals we made many improvements over the original portals. Amongst these changes were some enchantments that would not allow the portals to teleport the user anywhere where they could not survive, such as within rock, or deep under water for those that cannot breath [sic] it normally. When Prexus sunk [sic] Katta Castrum, these enchantments stayed sound, so you may find that many of the portals in the outer ward no longer function properly. When the Shissar invaded, they further [tampered] with the portals so that they may use them.'
You say, 'Tampered?'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'We are not sure exactly what they have done, but we have found that one must now attune themselves to the portals in groups. These groups sometimes seem to make little sense, other than they seem to be in three groups that go from the safest to reach to the most dangerous and protected by the Shissar. If you are interested, I can give you [instructions] on what you will need to do to gain access to the portals.'
You say, 'Give me the instructions.'
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Very good. Here is what you need to do.'
You have been assigned the task 'Portal Activation: War Torn Portals'.
The teleporters farthest away from the Combine controlled area have begun to deteriorate due to the constant fighting around them. For these teleporters to be useable again [sic] they need to have their preservation and teleportation spells refreshed. This can be done with the wand from Archarcanist Kirstmycl by standing in the middle of the teleporters and activating the wand. As always in that area, keep an eye out for any Shissar. You will receive portal keys here also when you refresh the portals, be sure to keep them as he will need to attune them to you.
Retrieve the last of the portal keys. This will be in the most dangerous parts of Katta Castrum near the arena where the Shissar have the strongest hold. You will likely be ambushed by increasingly strong creatures. You will also need to use the wand that you have been given to stabilize the portals. With their instability, you may encounter more bits of chaotic portal energy, so be careful. While you are in the area, kill at least 15 Shissar to reduce their numbers.

The portals should be strong enough to withstand at least another several months of the raging conflict now. The portal keys you gathered will enable you to use those teleporters as needed.
Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Very Good. Those keys should allow you to use those portals. The keys are now a part of you and you will not need to carry anything around with you. May your travels continue to be expedient.'
