    This task follows 'Portal Activation: Sanctuary' and is given by Archarcanist Kirstmycl at the pad near the market (-866, -603) in Katta Castrum.

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Very Good. Those keys should allow you to use those portals. The keys are now a part of you and you will not need to carry anything around with you. If you are ready I can give you instructions on the [next] set of portals. They will be a bit more difficult to reach, and the challenges will be greater.'

    You say, 'The next set?'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Very good. Here is what you need to do for your next attunement.'

    You have been assigned the task 'Portal Activation: Dangerous Ground'.

    With the attacks by the Shissar and other hazards of the city many of the portals further away from the safe area have become too dangerous to teleport to due to establishes and waiting ambushes. You will need to eliminate these ambushes while you gather the needed portal keys. Be sure to keep them as he will need them to attune them to you.

    Visit the listed portals and retrieve the portal keys. You will find that it is likely that you will be ambushed while trying to retrieve the keys. Kill at least twelve of the ambushers to help reduce their numbers in the future.

    With the portal keys and ambushes cleared out you will be able to utilize those teleporters. Be wary when doing so though, the Shissar are likely to attempt to reestablish their hold on those locations.

    Map with Zone 2 portal lines on it

    I took my previous map for the first portal quest that showed what portal went where and added the portals for the second quest.
    It got ugly. Lots of lines.

    But it's readable, just not the prettiest thing.

    I could take this task with my level 70 character. So level 75 is wrong.
    Reward is faction with Combine Empire Merchants + 75 platinum + experience.

    Make sure you have all the keys on you at the time of hailing to complete task....I have to repeat this task because here is SoE's CS response coppied and pasted here unedited....

    Please note that the task 'Portal Activation' is a very tricky task and it has an 'intended' failure possibility. The only way to fail is to loose one or more of the keys. If you don't have all the keys on your character and if you do the hail, it WIPES the task from your character. It is the intended game feature. You have to hail the NPC with all the required keys.     The ambush mobs have a -huge- agro range.
    I parked my shaman at the door to the Sanctum Beza area, and ran my monk up to trigger the ambush, and FD'd when they spawned. The mobs were too far away to even see on my shaman, yet they still agro'd and ran to him.

    Not huge aggro range, they simply instantly put everyone in the group on their aggro list and they never forget anyone as they re-add you ever 30 seconds or something like that. Even if you are FD for 2+ min they will remember you.

    The ambushes seem to work like this:

    If you get "somewhere close" to the portal, 3 mobs spawn on the portal.

    If you defeat them, a timer is started that prevents others doing that quest from triggering the same ambush.

    If everyone just runs up to the portal OR still lingers around the portal when the timer runs out (!) then a big wave of ambush mobs will spawn.

    So if multiple toons are doing the task:
    KEEP your distance
    Spawn ambush with one toon
    Kill it off
    have everyone go to the portal to get the flag before ambush timer refreshes.

    If you have an evacer or COH you can still try to charge the portal and get the flag before you die.
    You might end up with a LOT of mobs, though, and they cast snare before you reach the portal.

    take note that the firetongues that spawn from this quest are immune to movement changes, unlike the normal ones. both the shissar and the servants that spawn cast golem slow. the range is 75 on this spell so if you are kiting them, keep your distance. on that note- the golem-types move at SoW speed. and of course the golem-sorts and the firetongues summon.

    and yes, it can be soloed.

    but not by everyone ;)

    well..I did this as only a monk could do it. I dreamwalked over the portals, letting the mobs spawn and getting my key, then heading for the next portal.

    I now have all 12 keys

    The question is: the mission says kill 12 shissarar or servents..so do they have to be spawned from the key portals or can I just kill shissar.

    though even if it is portals..I'll only have to hit a couple of them to make 12 :)

    Any Shissar gives credit. I got credit helping someone do task 2 so I tried some random Shissar and also got credit. Bad part is while charging the portals to click and evacing I used too many charges to complete so had to do over.

    the above writer posted under the wrong quest. for this quest mob killing credit is only given for those that are spawned upon stepping near the portals.

    the next quest, any shissar will do. not this one.

    Yes, the regular dont give credit. However, any of the spawn mobs count so 4 portals worth of mobs and your done!

    Even though you're not forced to group to get the assignment, this is NOT a solo task. When looking for missions that can be solo'd this designation is misleading.

    We started this with a raid force of 11 casual players. The mobs will spawn before you reach the portal pyramid, so keep your force back a bit.

    What we did was have someone quick (either 100k horse, Monk, or Bard) spawn the mobs and drag them to group. I casted Vinelash to CC them then had Chanter mez them (all possible). If all can be mezzed, everyone ran over to get their keys. Chanter and I took turns so as to keep the mobs locked down. As an added bonus it gave me time to hit them all multiple times with Nature's Balance.

    For the unmezzable mob, have the tank keep that one busy while everyone gets their keys. Two tanks would be better so everyone can get their keys.

    This task has a built in failure possibility. I highly recommend reading the thread here http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=106798 before you attempt this task. It will likely save you a ton of time and frustration.

    OK .. while you fight these mobs have the rest of your group run up and get thier updates .Only 1 set will spawn .
    On each group we found 2 where mezzable sometimes 3 .. but not always .
    If you die or zone all you have to do is run back over the top of the portal .. either you will spawn the 3 mobs agai or you will just get your portal piece .

    A couple things to be careful of when doing this quest.

    1) Make sure you have all 12 bottles with you when you hail the NPC at the end (none in the bank). Otherwise, the task will fail and you have to start over.

    2) Be careful not to zone into Thalassius when getting the outer Geza Zeku key. I've managed to do this twice now and you will get the task step DONE, but you won't get the bottle.

    So I am trying to gather up the will to run through this task a 4th time ....
    Dangerous Grounds Tactics

    Approaching each of the portals themselves in this task, spawns three mobs of varying types. The mobs will attack you immediately upon reaching the steps to the portal. These mobs can either be golems or shissar. Occasionally a red to 75 mob will spawn in the three that cannot be mezzed. The key will appear on your cursor once the mobs spawn. The mobs do cast a nasty AE snare that hits your whole group when they spawn. You can approach the portal and attempt to FD to keep all three mobs from coming at once, but if they are Shissar, most likely they will cast on you, and FD will fail. Another method is to use Invulnerability (harmshield, DA, Quivering Veil, etc.) to spawn the mobs, but you will still get hit by the AE snare and when DA wears off attempt to FD again.

    I finally did complete this task, with the help of a great group, with only a few deaths. It took a while though. Now on to the war torn portals which from experience can evolve into 2 deaths per portal, because you have to click the activiation wand at each portal and get the keys and kill 12 mobs.

    Good news is that after completing Dangerous Grounds, you have access to the outer ring through portals, not all but most, and getting around Katta gets a lot easier and faster!
