It is advised to get the Quest items prior to looking for Hasten in Rathe as he will despawn after a certain amount of time and getting him to spawn in the first place can take hours with bad luck.`

The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last.

The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Ocean of Tears and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the seafury cyclops island and can spawn in place of any of the seafuries. The Southern Desert of Ro AC has a much more intriciate spawn mechanic that can be found on his bestiary page.

You will also need the equivalent of 3250 Gold for the turnin. (325 Platinum works).

Hasten Bootstrutter is a semi-rare spawn in Rathe Mountains. He, or any of the mobs on his spawn cycle will spawn in the Northeast section of the map in the area where Hill Giants are found approximately every 6 minutes(provided they are kept down). Once any of these NPCs or Hasten spawns they will begin roaming throughout the zone where after running their route they will despawn and a new mob will spawn. If you set up camp at the little valley leading into the Hill Giant area every placeholder or Hasten will roam right past you provided they aren't killed by another player.

NPCs that are PHs for Hasten listed in order of how often they pop: Spawns are at exactly 4m 45sec cycles.
a drake
a grizzly bear
Brother Zephyl
Maldyn the Unkempt

You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!'

You say, 'Journeyman's boots.'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.'

You say, 'What rare trade?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.'

You say, 'What shadowed rapier?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.'

You say, 'What ring of the ancients?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.'

Give Hasten the Shadowed Rapier, the Ring of the Ancients, and 3250 gold (or 325 platinum)

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Take the journeyman boots and run like the wind.'

What a lovely response. SO glad you can help everyone, rather than offering to MQ it. But hey, that's Fennin for you.

Ok, here's a few things I've heard:
(1)Kill everything
(2)Kill the undead
(3)Kill the bugs on the desert (beetles, spiders)
(4)Kill some other random guy, and wait 12 hours.

Any ideas if these are feasable suggestions for the SRO camp?
My story of getting Jboots
# Oct 15 2001 at 12:56 AM Rating: Default
35 SK

I was planning to spend 8 hours camping this thing at SRO. I was going to go with my 50 chanter buddie because i thought the AC was level 40.

I go into SRO, thinking it's going to be a looong dreadful night. I walk around SRO desert about 5 times. AC SPAWNS! Within 15 minutes.

My chanter friend is still in NRO coming here. I'm yelling at him telling him to hurry up cuz I don't think I can solo it. I con it... BLUE! I'm like.. HELLS YEAH!

So I try and solo it... I get doubled for 50-70, not nice. Then I get two zombie adds (they're like level 10, but their hits like to interrupt my spellcasting). I'm like.. AHH CRAP. But I dotted the AC and kept tapping it like crazy. I solo'ed it before my chanter friend came and finished off the zombies.

He helps me single pull shadowmen in Innothule. That took about 5 minutes.

We go to Rathe... No Hasten :( A 55 monk is camping him. We wait about 1 hour and he pops. Give him everything, I got my jboots. :) Estimated time: 1.5 hours.

-----------------------------------------

Okay... From the previous day, I camp at Rathe because we get done at around midnight (I had class).

I'm headnig back to oasis to take the boat back to Kunark. I pass by SRO, what you know what? AC is just standing there. TWO DAYS IN A ROW! I'm like...helllls yaaahh!!! So I go up, Kill 'em, and now I'm helping my chanter buddie get his clerics some jboots. Everything goes fine... Until... BROTHER ZEPHYL WONT GO AWAY!! We camped him 6 hours tonight, he just wouldn't go away. GRRRR

Hopefully We'll get it tomorrow.

Camped the AC in oot for 36 hours with only 1 pop and ring drop. It was really getting frustrating and group was ready to give up. Then AC pops again and drops ring. Two in group need it but i tell another guildy he was there longer than I so he should loot. He says ill help ya anytime till you get yours. Well next pop guess what another AC and another ring. Morale of story never break camp after a single AC pop in oot sometimes they double up.
Here is a wierd tale...
# Oct 13 2001 at 8:16 PM Rating: Default
Ok, I have been looking forward to getting Jboots for a long time, and my friend finally said he would help me get them. We tried oot, but as usual, it was camped (all night long I might add), so we went to sro to try our luck. 2 hrs later, the AC pops in.. my friend makes quick work of him (54 mage) and I loot the ring. Off to Innothule swamp we go, kill a couple shadowed men (first one had rapier) and we continue to rathe mts. Here is where it gets interesting.
We shout if anyone has seen Hasten (or Bro. Z, heard he was a ph or something). No response. We hire a Ranger to help, and run around all over. No Hasten. We kill stuff, even green stuff, in the hopes he will spawn. Bro. Z shows up. He stays up for about 2 hrs. Here we think, ok... Here comes Hasten now. Wrong. In comes another Bro. Z (isnt he supposed to be rare?) which we can tell is new because of different outfit. We wait 3 hrs. No Hasten, Bro Z is still running around everywhere. At this point my friend is seriously considering getting his guild together and killing that guy, but we wait another 2 hrs and still no Hasten. I give up and am about to log, but instead leave the keyboard and watch some TV. My friend logs and checks boards for info and stuff. One hour after watching TV, I get on and check again (with my friend on) and see my friend is back on, sent a tell, and find out Hasten is up and running around. Finally. I spent more time camping Hasten, than I did anything else (which was annoying since noone has any idea how to really make him spawn in and there were no guarntees that he even would, who knows if there is another ph out there as well). I wish luck to all who try to get jboots, they can be pretty frustrating to get.
Multiquesting
# Oct 11 2001 at 7:14 PM Rating: Default
Just an FYI, multiquesting the boots still works as of 10/11/01 =) I'm an AC farmer (I sell em) and ONLY camp the OOT spawn. I've seen the S.ro spawn twice but once I was playing a newbie char *grr* and, once I killed it with my main that already had a ring (couldn't loot) *double grrr*, so I sold it to some SK standing over me for whatever he had on him...

The OOT one is very random. I keep in touch with other people camping the spawn, and have gotten drops anywhere from 2hrs to 20.5hrs (these are consecutive times, not total). The great thing about this spawn is that it's quiet, constant, and won't be KSed. Also, if you get really bored, you can pull Seafuries in between
spawns.

To the post below me about the level range: I've multied boots for a lvl 15 before so I don't think there's any level restiction on them.

Hey, Im lvl 30, have the ring, quest says its lvl 35-60. Does that mean that if i give the hasten Bootystrutter the ring, rapier and dough, i loose it? or it mean the boots don't work til 35? or it mean you should be 35 to kill him?
RE: Canow
# Oct 27 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Default
Last idea is right, pretty much. You don't have to kill Hasten, but rather the Ancient Cyclops. Lvl 35 - 60 means that's what lvl u probly have to be in order to kill the things required to do the quest (in this case the Shadow men and Ancient Cyclops), NOT what lvl u have to be for quest to work. I've seen lvl 8 ppl getting Jboots via Multi-quest so there is no minimumlvl to do the quest. Dunno when u can use effect but i'm willing to bet it works at lvl 1. Hope this helps :)

Helpful Information
# Sep 24 2001 at 11:24 PM Rating: Good
Hi all, Phil here, 45 wizzie (atm), who just got his jboots. I wanted to share some helpful information with the rest of the EQ world about my questing for the jboots.

I camped the AC in oot (ocean of tears), heard he was much tougher there, but at least you know where he will show his ugly head (as opposed to sro). Well i log on at 5pm friday afternoon, ready for a long camp. I get the camp right away, no waiting, or not much. I go for 12 straight hours, and no AC, the friend that was helping me had to log, so I gave camp back to the nice French people that had given the camp to me. I was sort a mad, all that time and no AC. Oh well, I get up the next day, log on, and the same group is there, and they once again, give me the camp. Woot. I and the same friend, hold camp for about 4 hours till he pops, we kill him, and I loot the ring. Yeaaaa, about this time another friend of mine is wanting the boots, so I tell him, what the heck, ill help ya.

We spend the next 33 hours, yes thats right, no misprint, 33 hours looking for the AC, and he never pops in that time. Grrrrrr WE finally had to get some rest and go to bed, had work the next day. This was a very long and frustrating camp, plus toward the end of the 33 hours, we got trained on by some jerk, who pulls a corrupted clops to the sister island first, then to us on AC island. Then after we regroup, get rezzes and back to business, well guess what - we get trained again. OMG

Well we have to leave, and give up camp to someone else, hated to do that especially with so much time spent there, but my friend and I are going to camp him again, when we get the camp.

OK, now on to the helpful information, hehe, save the best for last. We did the math, the clops that spawn on OOT, have about 5k hp, so they are not the same clops that spawn in other places, like rathe mount. What we did, me (45 wiz) and my friend (45 chanter) did was this: first, i snared them with bonds of force, he rooted it at the same time. We both blasted it, usually root broke, and it came after me. I could get far enough away, and friend blasted it, all the time his pet is hittting on it. When he blasts it, it turns and starts after him. So I blast it, it turns and comes after me, he fears it, it runs from us, all while we chasing it up the hill and blasting away at it. They went down pretty easy like this, we had very little trouble killing them this way. No way, let me say again, NO WAY can a 45 wiz solo these. WE just dont have enough mana to kill it off, and root does not hold very long on these guys. And they hit hard. The reason I even mention about the wiz, is because we had a wiz wanting to kill one solo, I told him he could not, he did not believe me, well he saw right away, he could not. Hehe

The AC is very high mr, or he resists alot of fire based spells, at least the one time I killed him. And resists root and snare alot too.

Getting the rapier was easy, just went to WC and single pulled them. You will see him holding the weapons, so if you see him holding a rapier, be happy because that is what you want. Got this in under 15 minutes. Other places spawn them, but I just went to WC because I had hunted them there before for other quests.

Next was hard part; try carrying 3250 gp (thats right gold pieces, he does not want pp), if you are a gnome wizard. LOL I got buffed and SOW'd, and took off for Rath Mountains to find Hasten. I get into the zone, and do a shout. Several people just laughed at me, don't understand that. But oh well. So I finally get a loc of Hasten, a Monk is holding him there hailing him, till I get there, afterwards the monk killed Hasten, hehe. He does not drop the boots, and is a rogue, who can hit you with a heck of a bs, so dont try to fight him for the boots, lol.

Ok here is the tricky part, never have read anyone tell us how to hail him. I hailed him, all he said was, he is busy or something like that. I do a shout, ask if I need to talk to him in order to get the boots, some quests you do some you dont. Better to be safe than sorry, especially with this one. WE are both hailing him, trying to get him to talk to me about the quest. Finally, we type "What journeyman's boots?" And the gives us the information, that we need. I went through the entire process, of the conversation, again, better to be safe than sorry. After all done, I cross my fingers hit trade - and bam, jboots in inventory, yeaaaaaaaa.

All in all, I am glad I finally finished this quest, this is one I have been hearing about since a little tike running around Steamfont and Akanon, hehe. Is it worth it, hmmmmm, yes now that I have them, but is it worth all the trouble? That is something that you have to ask yourself? It can be a very frustrating camp, at least in OOT, im sure in SRO too. But once I got my ring, and was just there killing and looting for XP, it was a good camp. I went there 2 blues into 45 (hell), left 3 days later, with almost 4 yellow, over 500pp in cash, and many gems (star rubies, fire emeralds, etc). Not to mention the ring of the ancients.

Good luck to you in this quest, it can be a very long and frustrating quest, or an easy one, have heard some stories about it being so easy for some, fact of the matter is - it is all luck, plain and simple.

Take care and good luck,
Philibus Sophisticus, 45th Wiz

Another success story: Been campin' the AC on and off every time I found myself near SRo. Camped near the merchants one night after falling asleep on the keyboard and when I got on at 7am in the morning he was standing pretty much right in front of me. Total time spent was about 5 hours on and off. Theres nothing like watching his limp body fall to the ground. Good luck all and jboots rock!

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 20 2001 at 3:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So I was wlaking through SRo invisibly and I come accross an Anciet Cyclops. Completely random. There is one other person in the zone, a level 60, but he's not camping the Cyclops. I'm a lvl 30 sk, so I cons it, and it comes up white. So I kill it. Dhargoth > Ancient Cyclops. So I'm a really lucky son of a b that you all hate now.

I was lucky enought o be running through SRO on my way to pick up a friend. I looked on track and there it was. Conned white to me, 31 Druid. Managed to snare it eventually and get it down to 1 quarter health, and a guildy zoning in just in time to root it and finish it off.

Was very lucky i guess. Glad no-one was in the zone at the time. Now my paladin will get sow when i get around to doing the quest.

I just wanted to say that i was very moved by the stories of many hour camps. I myself can't stand a 1 or 2 hour camp of something. You ppl are gaming g0ds and i look up to ya. It takes real dedication to camp like that. My personal suggestion is to maxx all Casting Skills while u camp, seems like that sometimes helps with resists for me ). Other than that, have a TV, have food, and bring some buddies. Those are just ideas i've never been up to a camp bad enough that i had to try that. Worst i had was 2 hour camp of Ancient CROCODILE for my Gatorscale Sleeves (which i do love). Anyway have fun, be safe, and good luck getting that camp. You CAN do it )
SoW Addict
# Sep 06 2001 at 5:05 PM Rating: Default
Well, I happen to be addicted to SoW. I spent so much on potions I decided it was well worth it to get the boots. So I begged the help of a 50Shm
in my guild and he went scouting possible AC sites. What he learned of the SRo one was that it cannot be camped becasue of his multiple spawn points. If it pops and you're there it's yours.

He decided we would be better off at OOT. So we both hopped the boat from East Freeport and hit Sister Island. He Lev'd us and we ran over to north end of Sister island then due west to AC Island. Twas camped, as Im told it usually is, by a Druid and a Ranger, both 50+. So we floated over to Seafury Island to wait. About 2-3 hours later the Dru/Rng gave up, said he hadn't popped so we took the camp and set to killing everything that popped.
Cyclopses, a named ogre,Goob Mudtoe(quest related, his head is NoDrop) a pirate and an occasional aqua goblin. Everything but the clopsies were green to me at 35. So we were getting xp from them(the clopsies). We camped him from 4amGermany time to 11p, and my uber bud had to get rest. By then a 45 sham had joined, and another came to help. When one of them went to bed, a kind and very generous 40 warrior(THANK YOU Howdie!!) and his clr friend(THANK YOU Horace!!) <51> joined. This is almost 24 hours after we got the camp, and I was ready to say forget it. About an hour into this group he popped. The lvl40 swatted him, with lvl45 pet help. I got my ring and hustled off for the rapier in SK. Took about 90 minutes to get one with the rapier, they were green to me and 45shm. Had a 27 warrior who got exp off of em.
Stopped by bank, and off to Hasten.
He was running around near Feerrott zone and I handed him the ring first, Rapier and all the gold.
PooF! I am SoW'd for life YAY!And a decent chunk of XP as well, lovely bonus, since I died twice on AC Island<sad story, don't ask>
So... it does take patience. I actually went to sleep and a roomie played me for a few hours during AC camp. I now understand why people will pay thousands of pp to multiquest this thing.
I plan to try again so others in my guild can get these boots.
They cast on the run as well <woohoo!> so if it runs out while escaping meanie you are still saved. Actual SoW is faster but this is better than 100p a pop for 10dose potions or begging every sham/dru in zone.
There is no secret for getting him to pop in OOT that I noticed. Just kill everything that spawns in his spot and wait. Bring something to do and have someone you like with you or yall may end up hating each other <jk, but it IS a really long camp>. He is random, so said GM about 12hours into our camp. 1 out of 100 chances the pop will be AC. Six minute pop time on all beasties. You do the math =)
OK Im done. Longwinded, I know but I want to help others get these nifty things.
One more item tho..
You dont have to be wearing them to cast the SoW. Put em on and set the box as a macro, then take em off and put em in a general inventory and you're good to go!
Take care of each other!

SRo AC
# Sep 02 2001 at 10:04 PM Rating: Default
In order to make the SRo AC spawn you have to understand the spawn cycle in Sro. Immediately after killing a spawn (or groups of spawn that count as 1, in the cases of the mass spiders/mummies) another will appear in less than a minute. There are three "levels" of spawns in the desert: Common, Uncommon, and Rare. Common are things like the desert tarantulas, crpyt mummies, desert madmen etc. Killing these will offer a chance that an uncommon mob will spawn, things like Scrounge, an orc raider, wandering dervish cutthroat, sand mummy, etc. Killing these will respectively offer a chance of a rare spawning. The most common rare is of course Sand Giants. The lesser seen rares are Terrorantula, Sandgiant Hussam, and an ancient cyclops.

Basically you need a 53+ wizard with Jyll's Static pulse or better to aggro all the noncasting mobs in the zone, round 'em up, and PAE them all to death, or an alternative of using a couple high level melees killing at will. A tracking class would then be helpful in eliminating the uncommon spawns and having enough firepower to take down the sand giants for hoards of cash is advised. I had spent around 48 hours total camping this with no clue before I checked graffe.com's message board and found the details on Sro. Within 1 hour of killing with myself (51 Channeler) and a 50 ranger we had 7 SGs spawn and then an AC who dropped my ring (WOOT!). Luckily we were the only one hunting in the desert at the time and even with me still having 8 spiders trying to hit me I got off an Ice comet and sent him to 40%, and let the ranger finish him up :). He's around level 30ish with 1800 life I would say, nothing too hard for the higher ups.

Good luck and happy hunting

myself a lvl 30 druid and an lvl 35 necor did this quest yesterday. I didn't need the boots of course; but I did accidentally pick up the ring. and it is no drop. so what we did was I gave the ring and he gave the Shadowed Rapier and money and he got the boots..I know some one posted this way and YES it does work. he luvs his boots. just as a FYI you have to give him the money in gold and it does weigh you down.

We got the ring in SRO, and the Shadowed Rapier in WC. it took us about 12hrs for the whole thing.

Hi all,

I camped the AC, got the ring, got the rapier, had the gold and went to RM. Found the little gnome and hailed him. Gave him all the stuff, and he took off, giving me nothing! I looked in my inventory and my stuff was gone, but no JBoots!? What should I do? What can I do?
I petitioned a guide and he said there was nothing he could do to help with quests, that basically I was SOL. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

What race and class are you?
I'm a DE necro trying to camp the AC in OOT for 34 hours altogether now plus 7 hours in SRo.
If the same happens to me when I finally got the ring, I'll run amok.
In this case I will quit EQ for sure, it's already more than I can take to sit on the same spot and stare at a camp for 34 hours. I don't know why I do this **** at all, think it's an obsession by now.
I think Hasten is on beta neutral faction, so I would check if You screwed that in Your past, maybe that's the reason.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 29 2001 at 5:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) EXACTLY the same thing happened to me today. Well, I must say I have had a GREAT time playing EQ, but this is the just the latest ( and worst ) disappointment that has cost me months of work. I too petitioned with a "sorry its against policy for us GMs to help you" result. I got THE GM's email address for my server and e-mailed them, but if this is not fixed, I am going to go see what other games are out there and coming and ***** EQ like Verant and their workers have done to me. Too bad, great game, but unclear expectations and bugs and no one to help with fixes is to daunting a challenge 9especially since it is not a gaming challenge) for me to deal with... see ya! SRO story
# Aug 27 2001 at 3:50 AM Rating: Default
The most efficient strategy that one could have for the SRO AC is this: get a group with minimum:

tracker, meleer - nuker for AC, and people to clear zone.

First of all, nobody knows WHY anything spawns, so it is only safest to have a group clearing the entire zone all the time. This will not hurt, so its just bad advice to say it MIGHT NOT HELP.

Have meleer sit at tower, waiting for pholder.
Have tracker sit in middle of desert, with nuker there.

This is essential because i can confirm that the rares spawn within 5 mins of killing this thing in the zone. If you kill the pholder, you will know approx when to expect the rares. Obviously, the first few times you do it and you don't get the AC you will either get a creature repop or a goofy/rare spawn. You will see the timing.

Obviously, once AC is on track, have nuker follow the tracker and nuke like heck to both pull and "claim it" from a distance as well as try and damage it enough to protect your claim. Also the combers should run into direction but druid shouldn't waste any time saying "oh hey everyone, the ac is up and its umm... you know by that rock"... so dru should make AC IS UP macro.

The rest is obvious. . . good luck.

Here's my story:

After reading many many tips and tricks on how to get him to spawn, I'll give the only semblance of fact I can (sorry I just got the ring and am a bit shaky):

camped Sro from 11:30pm to 3:15am. It spawned at approx 3:15am.

I had a druid with me, and as a 38 sknight i didn't even cast on it and just beat it to hell.

My pattern which was half as a tip and half common sense was this: kill the tower placeholder, run to the northeast corner and track. within 3 to 5 minutes one of two things would happen: a "rare spawn" OR a zone repop. The repop thing was bizarre, but it did happen. druid would literally see a big blotch of creatures, and sure enough there they were.

The order of killing the named or rares in this manner (all of which spawned near or in the extreme NE corner) are: spiders unleashed, Named HG, shriveled mummys unleashed, Named Orc, Orc Raider, Orc Cleric, shriveled mummies unleashed, jackals unleashed, spiders unleashed. . . AC.

After killing the placeholder for the last time, we ran back north and sat there, chatted for like 4 mins and decided to give up. We started joking in OOC about a dervish thug that had spawned as being 'rare'. Then, my partner said: OMG!!! AC ON TRACK and took off running. Well, when we got to the destination it was just a zombie and she said HAHAHA JUST KIDDING... i was like "underwear check time"... but i look over and see the yellow punk off in the distance. he was standing right in the center of the map where the desert meets the forest. Run over to him praying that noone else is kiting or etc. . . and lucky me.

The time lapse from killing the placeholder to the rare spawning is enough to get into a good tactical position. I had most of the rares pop in the NE corner for me, but the safest thing would be right in the center of the desert.

I pulled it off with 3 rangers in the zone besides my drood buddy. . .

Yes... unlike what some have said you can still multi the boots. As of Aug 23 2001, I was able to do it.

1) Group with yer partner
2) have the ring bearer hand in the ring to the gnome and hit trade
3) Now you (who will get the boots) hand in the rapier and the 3250g and hit trade

4) you shuld get the boots no problem!
