You say, 'Hail, Shwara Volerno'

Shwara Volerno says 'Welcome to The Abattoir fellow Cazicite. I am Shwara Volerno, Mistress of Necromancy. If you have just begun to study the Necromantic arts I will assist you with obtaining some [clothing] and a robe that will be most useful when conducting research outside of The Abattoirs walls. We members of the Abattoir are the most feared of the residents of Paineel by the citizens of Erudin, to venture too far beyond the safety of our city unprepared would be foolish.'

You say, 'What clothing?'

Shwara Volerno says 'You will require this Curing Kit that has been specially prepared for the crafting of a suit and robe of Abattoir Initiate Clothing. The components necessary to craft the clothing vary according to the article that you desire to fabricate. Once you have been outfitted in the proper attire return to me and you may assist with some [important research]. Do you desire to fabricate an [abattoir initiate cap], [abattoir initiate wristband], [abattoir initiate gloves], [abattoir initiate boots], [abattoir initiate sleeves], [abattoir initiate pantaloons], or [abattoir initiate robe]?'

You say, 'I would like to craft an abattoir initiate robe'

Shwara Volerno says 'To craft an Abattoir Initiate Robe you must obtain three [silk thread], two woven widow silks, and two giant briar snake skins. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Curing Kit with this Tattered Robe Pattern.'

I just have a reminder for the newbs out there that are frustrated with the kit. i couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong, all the parts were right, nothing stacked. I forgot i had to take the kit ouut of the bank to combine them. Just started playing 10 days ago on seventh hammer.

Thanks for the breakdown (of the components, not the result of the hours farming the widows). Just to add that the totals required are therefore:
15 silk thread [=30 spiderling silk]
10 woven widow silk
7 briar snake skin
6 large briar snake skin
2 giant briar snake skin
(this is assuming you make 2 wristbands)
Image updated under the various items.
(note: as per other posts, the main time was spent finding large/giant widows - they appear to share spawn with everything including kobolds, used a ranger in the end to track them)
items for quest

Ok obviously there has been a change to the mobs and to their loot table in tox. So far this is what i've found:

Woven Widow silks - Drop off Large Widows and Giant Widows

Large Briar Snake Skins - Drop off Large Briar Snakes (duh) and Large Thistle Snakes also.

Briar Snake Skins and Giant Briar Snake Skins could also drop off Thistle Snakes and Giant Thistle Snakes not just the Briar Snake of the appropriate size, those i'm not sure about as I've not checked.

Spiderling Silks (for silk thread) - Same as always drop off hachling widows and spiderlings.

I farmed a large portion of the items with my ranger (track helps a great deal).

Thistle Snakes drop Snake Scales instead of Briar Snake Skins, but the Giant Thistle Snakes do indeed drop Giant Briar Skins.

Also note that the Kobolds in the area, though indifferent, will assist anything. There is no faction hit for killing them, so it's wise to clear them out before pulling your prey (especially the Shamans, as they buff everything they pass.) The assists do stop when the kobolds go green, around 8th level.

nothing should be stacked. Put one item in each slot of the kit.

Well did you make sure to combine the stuff without the pattern before combining the pattern and stuff?

ok where do the large widow spiders spawn?

I have been looking all over the south half of toxx and i have only found 3 so far, and never in the same place.
The rare drops?
# Aug 12 2002 at 5:41 PM Rating: Decent
Firstly, I am not a noob...and I feel silly asking the following, but I am at a loss and have all the other pieces and found only enough silk for 5 items (including 2 bracers).

I have had no problems getting any of the items needed except for spiderling silks for the silk threads. Widow spiderlings and spiderlings seem to be rare in toxx, unless I am hunting in the total wrong area. Anyone have any input as to the best place to find these little critters?

I can't belive this....this must be the only time I haven't seen tonns of spiders in a zone that has them....sad really.

i am a bona fide newbie. i am working on 3 char's currently. my two primaries are a DE Necro and my Heretic Necro. I am working on both the newbie armor quests (A.I. stuff for the Heretic and the Unholy stuff for the D.E.) This quest is much less frustrating (Sometimes you can actually spend 4 hours on and GET the stuff you need.) I tried the DE for Ultravision, but I'm leaning HARD now toward the Heretic. Not to mention, the gear looks GREAT. the Unholy stuff is BORING>
Where?

She spawns in the Abattoir (necro guild)... go up the stairs, and she is in between the two stairways near the window -- will run right by her if you are not looking. And these quests are available on regular servers now.

The Abattoir Intitiate quests are perhaps the easiest of the newbie armors to complete (although I have yet to venture into the Warrens for the final part). You are basically hunting a few MOBs in Toxx that are not overly rare (like drakelings in Misty Thicket), and while the drops are also reasonably common (started the quests at level 5, and had the set by level 8). Furthermore, the required items they are droppable (as well as being stackable and lightweight), although the situation where the vendors in Paineel do not resell anything (except for the one who seems to have a steady supply of crap from the Warrens) makes it more difficult to purchase these goods in this underused zone.

Now for the basics:
* spiderlings drop the silk needed for thread (combine two silks in sewing kit or the loom in Paineel -- never fails). For the full set, you will need 15 threads, so that's 30 silks.

* large widows drop the woven widow silk -- cannot use the woven silk from other zones. In my experience, this was the rarest of critters, but since you will be killing briar snakes as well, they should spawn regularly.

* briar snakes come in three sizes, and all seem to have the same spawn rate and drop rate regarding their skins, so you may end up with all the giant skins you need (2) before you have the regular sized skins (6).

Armor looks very nice... kind of a dark brown leather appearance. Stats are also great, especially when considering that Erudites start out with exceptionally high INT.
Woven Widow Silk

Just an FYI for folks wondering where to get woven widow silks... they fall off of the Large Widow Spiders in Toxx, and are a semi-rare spawn. I have spent the better part of 3 levels, 12 hours trying to get all of the widow silks I need for the armor. Also they don't drop it every time, you hit dry spells where you can kill 4 or 5 spiders and not see any woven silks.

I have all of the armor except for my second wristband now, and personally think it is fairly good for starter armor. However the drop ratio on those woven silks needs to be tweaked up a few notches, maybe increase the drop rate by 10 to 15 percent so you get a woven silk one out of every 4 kills. I am just over level 11 now and should have been in the Warrens already smacking around kobolds instead of runing all over the place looing for a silly spider.
