Sten Harnak says 'Greetings to you Isola. I am Sten Harnak Virtuoso of Freeport. I have lived in Freeport and studied the art of songweaving here for all of my days. I am always eager to see new faces here in our concert hall. If you are here for a performance I am afraid it does not start till a bit later but if you are a young bard in training then I might have some [work] for you.' You say, 'What work' Sten Harnak says 'Well I have numerous concerts here that I must prepare for so I always must be sure that I have the best possible support as far as my fellow bards go. I am always seeking new young talent to sing in our concerts. If you are a bard I have made tasks for you to complete to see if you are a worthy songweaver. These tasks will test your determination and battle skills. I would only allow one that has completed all of my [specific tests] to sing in my concert hall.' You say, 'What specific tests?' Sten Harnak says 'If you are ready to begin your training I will assign you a number of tests. These tests will enable you to outfit yourself with a suit of armor only worn by the most respected musicians of Freeport. First, I will present you with a Songweavers Assembly Kit. In this kit you will combine certain [recipes] that will be magically formed into an armor material. Each one of these materials will need to be combined in a forge with the appropriate mold to make your armor piece.' You say, 'What recipes' Sten Harnak says 'I have the material recipes available for Songweavers Platemail [Helms], [Bracers], [Armguards], [Boots], [Greaves], [Gauntlets] and [Breastplates]. When you are ready to craft a specific piece simply tell me what armor piece you [want] to craft. For example if you would wish to craft a helm tell me �I want to craft a helm�. Also please keep in mind that the components necessary for crafting your breastplate material are the most difficult to collect so you might want to collect them last.' You say, 'I want to craft gauntlets' Sten Harnak says 'Keeping your hands safe from all wounds is a key to being an effective bard. I am sure you will find it extremely difficult to play your instruments if your hands are not in the nest shape possible. To create your gauntlet material you will need to combine 3 Bricks of Crude Iron Ore, 1 Fire Beetle Eye, 1 Orc Pawn Pick , and 2 Giant Scarab Brains in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a forge along with this mold to fashion your very own Songweavers Platemail Gauntlets.' | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I am trying to combine the item in the chest looking thing Sten gave me but it says theat the item will not combine in this object? What am I doing wrong?

I just started a bard a couple of days ago, i have done this quest and is not broken :) looks cool to for a bard

you'd have a far easier time getting the giant scarab brains in NRO off of sand scarabs...i killed 3 there and got the brains 2 out of those 3 times...sand scarabs are far more common in nro than giant leaf scarabs are in ec anyway, so it would be a waste of time to try and get the scarab brains in ec off of giant leaf scarabs
Also when combining items make sure that all the pieces are individual, not stacked.

An easy way to get the Giant Scarab Brains is to bye them :)
You can bye them by Romya who is in a little hut near a hill with a large square rock on it in the East Commenlands.
Romya’s loc is: 338.95, 4063.52, -49.71
But remember, when you are going to combine them in your assembly kit, you have to split them up so the are lying in two slots. Otherwise you can’t combine the gauntlets.

Well I’m sorry to inform you that it can't be bought there any more, but I saw that it also could be bought in another tavern... so just look around, you might get lucky.
Sorry to rain on the parade, but the merchants don't sell the brains by default, they were just there because a player had sold them.

those brains are almost impossible to find, I have found 1 in at least 2 days worth of hunting :P

Keep checking all the merchant in the Inn as well as the 3 merchants inside the tunnel, if not do a zone /auction or /ooc. Goodluck!
