what do i have to do im new to this game
now thats an idea and a half
# Dec 26 2005 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
wouldn't it be good if all the races could have a variety of classes to choose from , some more than others (i know this is already happening but my main point is coming) but wouldnt it be better if each race had a new class which is only open to them which suited them better?

p.s. this is one of my first posts please don't be harsh

I consantly hear talk or how one race is better than another. In all my experience i have found that the only thing that makes one toon better than another is the person behind the keyboard. All races have strengths and weaknesses and in the end gear and aa's generally becomes the determining factor in a characters strength along with the skill of the person playing it. So make the race that best fits what YOU want. Do you want the challenge of building faction or are you simply here to get to max level as quickly as possible. It all depends on what you want to get from the game. The game is "supposed" to be a quest after all.
Humans? Opinions are what count, right?
# Nov 28 2004 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
Here is a viewpoint for you all to consider. Please don't flame me to harshly as this is my first post, hopefully with many more to follow....

In the ideals of creating a perfect online experience, one will find many races, classes, paths, skills, roles, or what have you. And though there are many, unfortunately, like myself, who find little other vices in this world to escape the day to day humdrums of daily life, there is a desired air of realism that needs to be included. Now, if we all came to a place such as Norrath, or anywhere else you can name at will, that provides an atmosphere of fantasy, or at least a temporary escape to release your frustrations, what better aspect to add for realism, then humans? It is obvious, at least for most, that one can quite easily become wrapped up in said fantasy world they decide to frequent with their charms and whiles. And if you add in the presence of humans, it at the very least reminds us that we aren't in THE real world, only taking a vacation from it. Everyone, or at least I hope everyone, deals with humans on a daily basis. Some many times, some not so often. But we all still deal with humans in one form or another. Why is this you ask? Well it's simple. That is who we are. Many people have the desire to play some mystic race that has rarely been seen, and some are hated by most. And ideally, that is your opinion, and your right. Just as the right to pick a human to play is the right of those that choose to do so.

Humans keep the realism in the environment. It would be totally fictional to place within the realm, all fantasy related races. Trolls, Ogres, Ikshars, Vah Shirs, Elves, etc... But when you include that factor of realism, such as adding humans, you know have a complete package, as the ultimate ideal is to create an environment that is as real as possible. Humans only help to add to that aspect in ways that hardly any other race can do. I mean, when is the last time you were walking down the street, or entering a business, IRL, and you happened to look up and notice a Dark elf, or a troll pass you by, as you hold the door for them? Realism is the key to any online experience.

Ok. There is my 2cp worth.

I have to agree with some of the above posts about people needing to have imaginations and be open minded. No one race or class is good for everybody and it shouldn't be or there would be only a few classes/races being played and that would be boring.
Secondly, I am a 48th level human warrior and though in the past I kind of regretted making a human warrior (I didn't know what I was doing in the beginning really), I am now glad I did. I found out we get a decent amount of perks and their fun to play when a lot of others just want to play races that are amped for the warrior mode specifically.
Playing a race that is not really amped for any class more so than the other is fun because it makes it more of a challenge and leaves a lot of room for good alliances and such and not having to worry about your character's race not being compatible with their class as much as others.
Now do get me wrong, I do enjoy playing other classes. I have an Iksar Monk and Necromancer, a Halfling Druid, a Dark Elf Magician, and a Barbarian Shaman.
So if anything, people ought to try the various races and classes before they knock it. And if they don't like it, than that is their right but don't get on other people who do.
This way, we all get along =)

i know a few higher level people on eq, and most of them are different races; but the one thing they didnt have was a human so im training as a human monk, mainly for feign death; none of my buds are monks so fd comes in handy for helping them, and lets face it , helping higher level peeps comes in very handy when ur lvl 27 and theyre all maxed casters.....makes you think differently about being a human.....i may not have spells or magic, but, casters cant fd either;
so i can fd/pull higher level mobs for them and i get free spells casted on me that last a good while...helping others pays off

hey, has anyone else had this problem? After the patcher is done, a message comes up saying that a file called d3d9.dll is missing and I have to reinstall it before I can play Everquest again. Anyone know what file this is? Oh and I've already tried reinstalling all of my Expansion packs that I have the CDs for.

Yes but my Human in RL cannot Invis(wish i could), cannot fly (wish i could), cannot go H2H with a polar bear or lion (never tried), cannot teleport, run like the wind, or gate (sure as hell would make travelling cheaper), cannot summon the power of the elements to nuke my boss (though i have tried that one), cannot not have uber tracking (otherwise we'd have found Bin Laden and WMD's), cannot Rez (otherwise i'd have Jimi Henrix backing Elvis Preseley) cannot bake stat enhancing Dragon steaks (unless i bake the mother in-law), cannot find undead ( except in the audience of a Marylin Manson concert), cannot get FT items (otherwise i'd have passed my exams) cannot say i've met a vampire ( only tax collecting bloodsuckers), cannot Have Stat enhancing jewellery and clothes (although for the prices they charge you think they would), Cannot raid the Faculty and slay the teachers (if I did I know i'd get all the agro), cannot have a kick of 200 (or i'd be kicking field goals from a seperate stadium).
Besides that yeah we're pretty similar, I can sing like a bard (well at least I do damage to those that hear me), and i do have an alcahol tolerance of 200.

Not sure whats in your porridge but I want some.

1) Because humans don't get an experience penalty

2) Because humans have more classes to choose from

3) Because humans have more starting cities to choose from

4) Because humans have less faction problems

5) Because humans have well rounded stats

6) Because humans have better looks in most armor, robes, etc as well as a greater variety of facial features

7) Because humans have a better selection of cultural armor

8) Because those areas where humans are deficient compared to other races is easily made up with equipment and AAXP

The fact is you can pick any class/race combo you like within the rules of the game and excel at it.

Humans, the race that took a battering when it comes to insults andput downs, and not many have been in defence of them, so to begin with, the issue of night vision, yes, it is bad, and got my quite bad in the early lvls, then i got a fire beetle eye, and i was fine, but when you learn tricks like putting your gamma up and if you just get light sources full stop you wonder to yuorself ''what bad nightvision'' because it does not effect me in one bit anymore, also, the thing bout humans looking gay, the old models, yeh, they did look a bit crap, but gay? big pink ogres are what you might call gay, but with the luclin models, humans are out standing and look great in plate armour and in chain armour and hell even leather aint that bad. next thing is how people moan about how they play EQ to be someone diffrent, thats why they pick a diffrent race.... it is being someone else human or not, roleplaying is roleplaying, human does not make much diffrence to who you are or how you play, stats, human stats are even out, on everything, none of the stats are below average, so whatever class you pick, the stats wil be a little higher than average becasue of the bonus stats for the class you pick, and even if they arenet the highest, gear and AA's will make this seem like nothing in the long run, so stats make little diffrence, they just make it a tiny bit easier or a tiny bit harder in earlier lvls, but anyway, thats my little defensive post for humans before anyone makes any rash comments and i hope you all notice a fair comment or 2 in this post

Most powerful human in eq
# Nov 09 2003 at 3:32 PM Rating: Default
Furor Planedefiler is the most powerful Human warrrior in eq (and maybe the most powerful player of all) According to his magelo he has almost 9khps unbuffed. He runs a guild called Fires of Heaven which lies on veeshan server. I plan to start my own guild when I get to level 60 and hopefully one day I'll become like Furor. But me being a ranger I'll never have as much hps as him. Oh well I can always dream can't I?

Btw its not that bad being a human. Sure we are blind at night but can fix that with a decent light scorce. We have average stats but we all know that stats won't matter in the end game because we can fix it with raid gear and max them out with AA points. We are considered a good race unless we become a Shadowknight or Necro and follow gods like Inny and Brext. And as for the roleplay issue, as humans, we have a choise weather we want to rp our characters or not. If we do choose we have many options on how we can rp our human where as other characters are limited. And also we get a choise of two starting cities, either Qeynos or Freeport:)

9k? Well then he's not the highest EQ warrior by any means, Bertoxx's top is 9.5 and i'm sure there are equals to that, perhaps higher and many of which are human as well no doubt. Don't get me wrong 9k is uber. And as far as being powerful....warriors are not. They have a vital purpose but are by no means powerful. They hold agro and take damage. hence RolePlaying.

And Gratz to Furor on 9k unbuffed!

Fire beetle eye are lightsorces but you have to keep one either in your secondary slot or in a open inventory slot and not in a bag. Lightstones are also good, they drop off willo wips. There are some swords to that provide light. Only one I can think of that low levels can get is a blackened alloy long sword.

Question about marriage
# Sep 21 2003 at 11:21 PM Rating: Default
Greetings all.

I am a human Paladin on the veeshan server. I am about to be married to a darkelf shadowknight. I wasn't sure which section to put this question on allakhazams boards. The race disscusion board seemed like the proper place. Anyways, my question is, does anyone know if a good race who marries someone of an evil race will have thier factions messed up with thier home towns? For example, will I become kos in North Freeport after I marry a darkelf female? Or does this only happen on the roleplaying server? Would appreciate any info. Btw I think being a human is great, and you should hunt in west freeport for the best newbie exp. Qeynos hills isn't that bad but it gets boring there. Then move on to EC, North Ro, then PC on Luclin untill you get to lvl 26 or 27. I'm lvl 19 and I'm either hunting in PC or in nektulos killing DE guards.

1) Humans receive no experience bonus. Other races have penalties and bonuses so that puts Human smack dab in the neutral.

2) Nope. The Human SK will level faster than the Ogre Warrior (assuming both are leveling together at the same time).

In my opinion, I don't care for playing Humans. They don't have any unique abilities, and they are just....us. If I could pick a race that i could be in real life, it wouldn't be a human. They don't have faction problems but it isn't a popularity test. They are decent fighters and casters, but who cares? this isn't a game where the point is being level 65. You pick which race you like, and I just don't like humans. They are just....regular.
Just my opinion.

how can anyone say humans suck.. they pass th iksar in several tanking abilities along as the half elf, wood elf, and dark elf in pure tanking abilities. Im trying to figure out what sucks about the most rounded out character, they dont suck for hybrides considering most of there stats are relitivly equal. Plus, faction work is a pain in the ars even a SK as a human can travel to many places freely. They might not be as big or strong as ogres when it comes to tanking but let me put in your mind only 1 warrior ever got over 10,000 hit points.. his name is Furor Plaindefiler.. oh yeah guess what he WAS HUMAN WARRIOR not a ogre not a trool or barbarian that right a human so how can they possibly
RE: humans DO NOT suck
# Aug 26 2003 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
Damn you discriminate alot...sheesh. For one Humans do not have better tanking abilities over an iksar. Iksar has AC bonus - Innate Regen (better than the troll), AND they have better starting stats. Iksars cant wear plate but in the end usually everyone will have nice gear after being 65 and attending many raids. Humans dont look bad in armor i'll give you that...but neither do the Dark elves in their new luclin graphix - plus the blue skin is great...its unique..what the hell does a human have that is unique? I dont know what yer talking about..those troll women are so damn sexy... And how can you say the humans are the best race? The best race for what? For all the int casters a gnome can pass them up in INT..For Rogue any of the other races cept gnome can pass up a human..the only good classes they actually make for starting out is most likely a monk/pal/sk. So i guess it isnt the bottom line, its just your opinion..to form a better opinion you should go to the character select screen..click on a bar to make a new character and check out all the races and their starting stats for the classes that way you can actually see how the other races pass a human up in stats.

some thought went through my head later last night. several people say that humans look "gay". but humans look better in their armor then any other race, think about it.... Plus, they are not as ugly as ogres or trolls, their skin is not blue like dark elves, they are not all bone and no muscle like all the other elves. sorry but they dont have tails and scales to make em look like freaks. Plus their heads arnt shinny like erudites. So humans DO NOT suck, they dont look gay and thats the bottom line other people just have a hard time facing the best race.
Human Classes
# Jun 27 2003 at 9:38 PM Rating: Decent
In my opinion, now remember this is my own view so you cannot call it wrong just right, Humans seem to do very well with Pure Casters mainly because they are extremely fast levelers, they can wear just about any type of caster gear, and you onl yhave to focus on one stat which is INT or WIS with them since for a caster that is all they need and the human have the highes other stats for a caster, makes them a very solid caster character. Humans tend to make the worst of Hyrbrids since they do not do so well when you have to spread the abilities about. Humans make decent meleers, in my opinin bette rthan elves and why not, humans do inherit the world and become the most powerful race of all in the end, so I would also like to be on the winnign side with a non-magic pure melee human.

RE: monk
# Jun 18 2003 at 11:18 PM Rating: Excellent
Its really about weather you want to work hard in the beginning or in the end (by which i am referring to levels). Iksars are good because their swimming is maxed to start, they have great eyesight, they can regenerate, they have higher stats, and their start point is great (even though no one likes iksars any other place, you really dont need to go into anyother place to level). The bad thing about iksars is that you will have to do a lot of faction work when you are no longer interested in just leveling and you want to travel off of cabilis. Note: regeneration is no longer that helpful when you get into higher levels. Humans are realitively harder to start with since they dont got all that extra stuff but you have a LOT less faction work to do. Also your epic may be easier since you wont need to find a human to help get you your headband and sash. So pick an iksar if you want the beginning to be easy and the latter part of you toons career to be hard, and you dont mind staying on cabilis to level. Or pick a human if u want your begginning to be relatively hard and the latter part of your toons carrer to be easy.
RE: monk
# May 29 2003 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
It depends what you are looking for in a monk. Humans can react faster but can not see as well (no big deal) Iskars have a higher AC and can swim better. Think about your starting points- do you want to go to Cablis or Grobb to bank or would you like to go just about anywhere else. I know I would not like to run all over the place if I did not have to
