I just completed this quest last night on the Erollisi Marr/Nameless server. My character was a level 34 Human Paladin of Erollisi Marr.
Astaed Wemor was indifferent to me when I considered him before turning in the "Note to Astaed Wemor". I received 7gold, 8silver, and a Bronze Warhammer, in addition to experience. The faction changes are as follows:
"Your faction standing with Priests of Life has been adjusted by 5
Your faction standing with Knights of Thunder has been adjusted by 1
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos has been adjusted by 2
Your faction standing with Bloodsabers has been adjusted by -1

I'm fairly certain Astaed Wemor's faction is Priests of Life, and thus, for those saying you must be at least Indifferent, that would be the faction to raise to indifferent if you are unable to turn in the note.

All of the dialogues and faction hits in the post below me (by Gonzamer) are 100% correct if you wanna update the quest with them. Guard Elias will spawn a decent distance down the lower path (towards the opening of the path, NOT towards Highpass) and will immediately begin running towards her. He was obviously meant to be run into by the player should they have decided not to stick around and started running back to Qeynos immediately. If you are KoS to the Corrupt Guards and you are standing next to her or run into him after he spawns he will aggro you and won't even involve Milea. Milea will not assist you unless she is attacked by him first.
If you wanna add Guard Elias to the database, he seem to be level 20 based on some internet research on old posts from this quest, Also when he attacked me I cloaked him off and let him fight her for a bit, based on the dmg he was dealing to her (knowing she is an approximately level 15 npc) level 20 does indeed seem to be a good estimate of his level (he's obviously grey to me at level 100) and he definitely WILL kill her if you do not intervene. Slaying him gives the regular Corrupt Guard faction hits:
- Corrupt Qeynos Guard
+ Guards of Qeynos
- Kane Bayle
- Circle of Unseen Hands
- Bloodsabers
Upon his death he dropped a single "Alkaline Loam" and a "Fine Steel Short Sword". I have a screenshot of him once he's made and uploaded to the East Karana NPC database.
Saving Milea seemed to earn no additional reward, there was no dialogue from her upon his attack or death, and no new dialogue when hailing her after he died and, as you can see, he didn't drop anything of note. Neither Nerissa nor Astaed remarked on the attack. I got a Bronze Warhammer as a reward.
Also, due to Guard Elias' level, the minimum level of this quest should probably be bumped up a tad, as I don't think a Classic era level 8 could have solo'd him, probably not even full grouped him (There is no doubt in my mind he is level 20).

Nerissa Clothspinner says 'I have heard that a few of the Qeynos merchants and guards are not very happy with the current state of the city. Taxes are too high and many of the guards have been sent to the outlands, leaving Qeynos vulnerable to attack. I do not feel the same way, but I fear these few may become many. I [fear for my life].'
You say ‘Why do you fear for your life?’
Nerissa Clothspinner says 'During a late night stroll by the pond in north Qeynos, I spied a guard carrying a very large carpet on his shoulders. As he approached the pond's edge and unrolled the carpet, the body of another guard rolled out and began to moan. The first guard grabbed for a long spear-like weapon from his back. He drove the weapon into the man and pushed him into the pond. I screamed! He turned to me and I ran. I do not think he gave chase. Too bad, he would not like to run into my [guardian] at home. I told my guardian and we both went to the pond and saw no body. He believes I was drinking too much wine. I do not drink. Now I fear for my life when I am in the streets of Qeynos.'
You say ‘Who is your guardian?’
Nerissa Clothspinner says 'When my big sister left Qeynos for adventure, she left me in the hands of her old time friend, Kane Bayle. Yes, the commander of the Qeynos Guards is my guardian. You would think I would be safe. Every time I tell him the rumors I hear, he just ignores me. He is too busy, I guess.'
You say ‘Where is your sister?’
Nerissa Clothspinner says 'My sister is in the Karanas. She is a warrior. Her name is Milea. I really need her. Would you please deliver a note to her? You look able-bodied enough for the job.'
You say ‘I will deliver the note.’
Nerissa Clothspinner says 'Here you go then, brave adventurer. Godspeed to you.'
You receive a Tattered Note from Nerissa Clothspinner. The text reads, “Dear Milea, Please hurry back to Qeynos. I have seen things which lead me to believe the Qeynos guards themselves are planning a revolt. I now fear for my life. Please hurry back home. Your sister, Nerissaâ€
Milea Clothspinner is located at -1800, -6073 in East Karana. She is in the tunnel between the upper and lower parts of the ravine between Karana and High Pass.
Give Tattered Note to Milea Clothspinner.
Milea Clothspinner says 'My sister is in danger. She is all the family I have left. I shall be on my way soon. Please take her my handkerchief, so she knows you have contacted me. Thank you. I am thankful Nerissa ran into you. I just wonder why she did not tell Kane about her suspicions.'

At this point he just stood there for a while as my faction with the Corrupt Guards of Qeynos is kindly (Ally with the Guards of Qeynos). Amusing.
He then goes on to try to kill Milea. If left alone, he will succeed. I mezzed and blurred him, and after he came out of it, the two just stood there for a while before he wandered off and despawned. So I have been a peacemaker!

I worked on faction and Astaed will give me the quest, but now Nerissa says she doesn't trust me. Sigh.

Astaed Wemor's spawn time has as of recently been shortened I believe, as he can be seen more often. He stands at the top platform, right next to the teleported into the UFO. But the ******* didnt take my note, im dubious to him!! grrrr

I tried doing this quest with my lvl 14 Druid, with the help of my bf's lvl 14 Warrior. Got the note from Nerissa no problem, eventually located the sister, and got the veil, again with no problem. Then I saw the guard running towards the sister, and assumed that we needed to kill him. I had a KEI on at the time, so I thought that we should be fine. He conned red to us, but we had been killing red con Dervs between the two of us, so I didn't think this guy would be too much of a hassle.
BIG MISTAKE!
He hits fast and hard, and I had absolutely no opportunity to cast any of my spells, let alone a heal! I died within about 6 blows, and my bf's Warrior wasn't far behind. We went back and looted our corpses and took the veil back to Nerissa, so all the rest of the quest was completed.
All I can say is that there had /better/ be a reward for killing that guy, and it had /better/ be good, because by the looks of things you'd need to be pretty high-lvl or need a good group to survive a fight with him for long!

I helped keep a L15 Pally healed through keeping the sister alive, and the guard dropped a Fine Steel Short Sword. Not a bad drop for a lone kill, but my L36 Cleric was barely able to help her do it.

Name may be mispelled, but upon seeing this, i had to tell you all, I've seem him twice right near the portal to inside the temple, three times in two days. Another eq random respawn, anyone keeping rabid bears alive for pyzjin still? Hmph..

Just an FYI, the second part of this quest where you hand in the letter to Astead Wemor is indeed broken. The guy is gone from the game or has a +8 hour respawn time. I even made a newbie ranger and tried to track the guy while leveling him up... no go. The factions on this quest is very good though. 4 trips and I went from Indifferent to amiable while my Corrupt guards faction stayed the same. =) I like!
Guard Elias is light blue to my lvl 30 but even with the vast differnce .... he was still no push over. He did manage to take 2½ Bubbles of HP from me. Deffinately underconned. Hits for 30's most of the time but did get quite a few good hits of 54 in. His magic Resistance is insane as my songs were resisted 4 times in a row before they stuck.
If there is another Ogre guard that was supposed to come.. I didn't see him. ohh well

Yesterday I've been speaking to a GM about this thing, and that dude told me the following:" The spawn times of some NPC's are Random. You've got to take alook from time to time." Perhaps Verrant themselves forgot where they put him.

I have been walking around for two months some and some six levels carrying a letter for Astead Wermor. I camped the Temple of Life waiting for him for days. I have searched endless zones using tracking to find him. Wondering where is this guy. Ok now it makes sense another SOE ***** UP! Huh, why do they do this?
I really wanted to do this quest it was the first one I took up and I would like to finish it. I will petition to have him place back in the Temple of Life!

Everyone who wants to complete this quest... PLEASE submit a /bug report in the game!
They won't put the guy back if people don't miss him.
Personally, I don't see why they even removed him without taking out the rest of the quest as well.
It was VERY frustrating to come so close to completing this quest at a relatively low level, only to find that I couldn't. I only died TWICE in the attempt.

I cannot find Astead at all on my server. I have /petion'ed about three times now and have yet to receive a response.

I'm doing this quest mostly for curiousity as I'm a 41st Ranger. The guard was no match for me, I did have some trouble getting snare to stick on him, but that's all. I get the note to take to Astead and he wasn't up. I tried off and on for several hours as I was doing other things in that area, and he was a no-show. Any advice short of slaughtering the citizens of Qeynos in frustration?

Envy and Woe are bit parts in the Shaman epic. They drop from Gorlam (sp?) the Wicked in the Mountains of Rathe. The "tale of woe" mentioned in this description is just that: a descriptive statement.

Posted: Jul 03 2001 at 3:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i back peddled to face milea and hailed her , getting the note i then went to find her sister, found her and handed the note, got faction and some copper, straight away Guard Elias goads her to the fight and i think "hey this'll break the quest(not good)" so i watch for a second and see the hits, didnt have time to con, as he had her running i hit hard with everything i had, i had just dinged 23(0.5 blu bubs into lvl), and figured i was doin dammage and he was agro on me so i sorta had to continue, disrupted my dd heaps, dd kick dd kick etc., dual weilding sarnaks(double atack as well), i was hitting for 10's, he got the occaisional 50 hit in, took me to about 50hps of 715hps buffed, praying to the mana god i hoped the last dd wouldnt fizzle, last dd went off and he ran, i expected him to run earlier i think he didnt run till he had 50hps or so left, medded till enought to cast invis, then healed and medded, wanting to get out i fled to the bridge, zoned an then took on a griffawn to see how i went, and caster friend asked me to get a feather, used all mana took little dammage, went to gypsies to med, you guessed it grimfeathers shows up, takes me out, was bound at gypsies, looted then camped. managed to keep lvl from xp gained from smakkin the corrupt guard, but not healthy lol, will post again what i finish with.

This quest seems rather simple, but the reward is a ridiculous amount of faction for most of the positive factions, and a menial amount for the negatives. If you seek good faction with any of the above groups, 10 attempts at this quest and you will be loved by every good person in the human realm.
