as i write this message i am in CS hunting these bastards, ive been ehre for 12 hours and i havent gotten a single crushed diamond dust or water rope. This is simply absurd, and unbeliveable, that eq would amke somthign that dosent drop on the mob for 14 hours straight.
Those are used in the Ancient Draconic Tome quest, linked to from this page. It's rarely done because the risk-versus-reward isn't all that hot - however, it's kinda fun if you just like questing (like me).
Since this is CS thought i would share my quading experience. Buff up, EB not necc but skin and regen/regrowth recommended, med to full. Track one of the ones near SG. Start with the one on the point, snare, stear clear of the sirens, and head towards the center two using track. I would just swim low past the boat and wait till one warped on me, snare and repeat with the other one. Grab last one before the beach and begin quadin. They are fiesty so dont let them get too close to other people or you might lose one and need to reform. I alwasy headed for the north beach--noone seems to pull there... Takes 11 casts of 477 vs wyverns at 7 casts. The one by the beach gets camped sometimes but noone ever does the other 3. I read there is a 5th one. Hmmm. Better than fighting for wyverns or doing singles. I think at 58 with my new AoE they would be cake... I think pet classes would clean up. Good loot and fast repop time.
I am looking for information on how to pull this to the beach, and if it sees invis, etc. Also if there are mobs I should watch out for underwater. Thanks in advance.
Did they upgrade drops? Because the loot from these is amazing. I killed 11 of em and got: 1 Crushed Topaz 1 Flawed Topaz 2 Flawed Flame Opal 4 Black Pearls 2 Jade Rings (10pp to vendor) 2 Golden Pendants (10pp to vendor) and about 8 words/runes.
On Innoruuk, I've killed about a dozen, and my loot looks nothing like yours. Best I've pulled is an emerald. Onyx, Jasper, Star Rose Quartz, Bloodstone, Carnelian, and Emerald. No words, but two alcoholic beverages, and the rope 100% of the time. I'm also averaging about 5p in coin per kill.
Still, I've never seen any other MOB so consistently drop gems of any sort. I'm saving them up for a guildmate who is working on Jewelcraft.
These chests are 6 minute spawns in the ship near the othmir venders. There are more chests but this is the most convenient spawn point since it is closest to land. As a 47 druid I would go near the ship with lev and wolf form (no breathing needed, but sow of course, and lev really helps). He will agro you when you get near the ship, you should be able to see the ship from the shore if you open your inventory from underwater.. this bug works for me. Pull him to shore and snare, then root/DoT kite. I use ES arms and it works perfectly.. medium magic resistance and alot of hps, and hit pretty hard. They not particularly tough though. They ARE KoS and have no faction. 100' rope is 100% drop as far as I know; I killed over 30 of them and they always dropped the rope. They almost always drop a cheap gem and sometimes a 35pp+ gem, and rarely a quest gem. Also drop words/runes. Not that great exp for rate of killing.. but worth a try. I hear the rope is for a range item that according to some people looks like a bazooka but I'm sure this is a rumor.
You have the idea right for the rope, however there are other comonents for that quest that haven't been seen in a long time, so it's believed that the quest has effectively been removed from the game.
I've been hunting sea chests for xp. In about 10 kills, I've received 1 quest gem. That's not bad considering. You can't expect better from the wyverns in CS either. The chests are easy to kill, and I average about 3-6pp per kill in regular cash loot. They also drop the regular gambit of cash jewelry which isn't worth overly much, but still, they drop better loot overall than the wyverns do, and you don't have to worry about druids kiting an army over the top of you while you med. I'm a 52 necro with dmf, so I basically just camp out underwater and kill these all night. :)
There are a total of 5 spawns in CS. I usually only pull the one closest to shore. They spawn every 5 min after dieing and drop the water proof rope every time and gems most of the time. On occasion quest gems. Hits hard and fast and swims fast too so if you are trying to bring it to shore I suggest snare pulling. I get into a grove with me ( a ranger) necro and druid and we usuually do 2 wyvern and then go to one of these for steady exp and loot. Average night I do about 2 quest gems for myself and 300pp in vendor gems and other loot. Happy hunting.
The 100' of waterproof rope is used in a the the quest that yields breezebots frigid gnasher, aka BFG. This is an awesome weapon that is great fun for dueling.

I believe a spawn point is messed up... with my experience pulling the chests there is a stack of three arctic muscles that are found inside the ship. I believe that it was the intention for the wooden planks to spawn there, but I guess it did not happen. The spawn point is located inside the ship and respawns about every 15 to 20 minutes. Too bad they spawn in iceclad and not where the pirate said they should be.
There is a sunken ship that has a chest living there with a slightly different name. I managed to killing it but 2 sharks were on me at the same time and beat me down. I took out the first shark and the last was half dead when I ran out of HPs. I have no idea what was on the chest since I was too busy with the sharks to loot it.
The stated average of quest gem drops is fairly accurate(approximately 1 in 10). THese hit for a max of 98, are warrior class and have about 4400 hp's. The experience gained is fairly lousy for them though considering the amount of time/mana. The quest type gems these drop are all of the crushed type.
In addition, they drop some crushed type that are not quest related (i.e. Crushed Diamond), but these do sell to the vendor for approximatley 20 plat. the 100 ft rope will be found on each chest, and is lore/no drop and used for the quest found on this sight and mentioned in another post here. Hope this helps a little.
These drop gems for me on a fairly frequent basis. I'd say one in 10 kills produced a quest gem, which is a decent ratio. The rest of the kills get you some kind of gem or jewelry, which can range from about 4gp for the crappy stuff, up to 10-15pp for the emeralds and black pearls. Easy root/dot kill for a druid. At level 52 I rarely drop below 80 mana when root/dotting these with ES vams. Although another post reported them as weak esp they move me pretty good at level 52 (but not as good as quad kiting the wyverns here).
i was reading the posts and it made it sound like the quested gems dropped evertime. Well i killed 3 of these guys and never got a quested gem. All 3 times i got the 100' rope and on one i got an onxy, one a bloodstone ring, and one a carlien, all sell for less than 1pp, so where is the quest needed gems or did vernant make em more rare drop, btw the exp sucks at 51 for killing the chests solo.
Rope is for pirate's quest in West wastes, on the ship run aground off n shore. Pirate needs 100' rope, planks from sunken ships (pirate suggested cobalt scars wreckages but I didnt find anything upon scouting, beware of seachests btw) and something (??) to be used as sail ... Am guessing dragon wing.
I looted 100' rope (no drop) off one of these chests. I nearly died. Was trying to do another quest and this thing came out of nowhere. Bleh - I doubt I'll ever do the quest. Wonder what you get if you complete it.
