Lord Rak`Ashiir

Raid Encounter
Screenshot

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

Lord Rak'Ashiir is one of the Overlords of the City of Mist. He spawns from the last corpse of his elite Black Reavers. He looks like a huge floating ghost Iksar, but he was not undead. At least not then.

Only the quest-respawned version drops the Iksar Scale for the shaman epic.

Does anyone have any idea whether or not the child's tear can be multiquested by a non shaman or not? ive read posts that said you need to be a shaman, then ive also read that non shamans can do hand in. i have a dwarf cleric with the tear from a PoF raid and a shaman friend of mine would like to MQ this item to finish off his epic. not sure of truespirit faction but i can always build it if need be to save another golem raid in pof.

I just (5 minutes ago) attempted to hand in the Child's Tear, with max ally Truespirit faction, and Lord Rak said "I will do nothing to aid beings like you". The end. =(

Did you do the turn-in with your Shaman or one of your other toons?

I just wanna know if it can be MQ'ed by a shaman.

I beleive it can be MQ'd by anyone so long as they are Ally, but I've never tried it so do so at your own risk.

Only shamy can do the MQ handin. This has been thoroughly tested and discussed on other forums.

WRONG! I've done two tear turn-ins with my Barb Warrior so far. Took me forever to get her faction to max ally to do it. But she CAN do it.

If you HAVE to pick up the tear with another class other then Shammy I suggest you do it with an Enchanter since they have faction spells that would help raise faction a little easier then I had it.

Oh, and you have to have MAX ally in order to do tear turn-in to Rak. My warr has ally up as high as she can get for not being a shammy. (Here is the gold nugget...) I then had to use a Ornate Velium Pendent to bump up her faction enough for turn-in.

Hope this helps someone who is thinking about destroying a tear.

He follows Truespirit faction. Think it's epic faction for all classes, so he'll probably be friendly to all for now... Not sure. Saw him pop outside the Black Reaver house just recently. Didnt have the tear, tho. Sucks. Cuz I'm 53 shammy with no epic yet. =/ gotta do that pof someday....

Then he must be broken again. AFAIR he was apprehensive to my Dark Elf Mage, but I didn't have much time to check, because he attacked a member of our raid who was just standing next to me minding their own business, and I died fast from the AoE.

Kill Lord Rak last night with 2 groups (average level 62) while looking for Jade Reavers. He dropped a breastplate that was 35 ac and some other stats that looked pretty nice. I would have looted it but it was NO DROP. So I came here to look up the item, lo and behold, not listed. DOH! I knew I should have paid better attention. Anyway just wanted to let everyone know that he has a new drop.

By the way, in our quest for Jade Reavers we went and killed Neh too. No torch but she did drop the Woodmans Staff. Ended up with no Jade Reavers either :(

well the first time we went after him we were under staffed as only one grp of us and no mana breaks after the first 2 of them. Ohhhh ya and did i mention only healer was a druid with a shamy back up. And well to say the least all the druid got to do was heal heal... oom evac. Then while on the CR's of who got left in the room one of our guys loged on his main a 65 mage and well we went back as a 57shamy, a 52 druid, a 61 bst, and the 65 mage and we took him down easy. The mage pet was the tank. So he is no longer a raid encounter ill bet a pair could get him.

I went there on a raid, we had 5 groups. We had been pulling to throne room, trying to get reavers for the jade reaver. After killing a few reavers Rak spawned and started attacking from what I could see. I had no clue who he was so I clicked on assist and our tank had it targeted so I started attacking. Next thing I know I was hit 2 times and not for much and then I was dead. I spawned at my bind spot and saw I was hit with some hard AE's and the raid was in shock that Rak had started attacking us. I learned then that he wasn't kos before the change to CoM, which I never knew had taken place. I was reading through forums and different shammy sites and no one has the updated info on how to hand in the tear to Rak or if you even do that anymore. The raid regrouped and we ended up taking down Rak, it wasn't too hard now that we were ready for him. He dropped a nice SK shield, don't remember the name of it and then we called the raid. Please if you know what has happened to this part of the epic or know of a site that has the updated info pls poste it.
Lord Rak Changed?
# Aug 27 2003 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent
Last night I went to do the Tear turn in and to my suprise after the patch on the 26th, Lord Rak is now KoS. He should be ally to me, so I could do turn in, but lo and behold! NOT! This really sucked as you well can imagine. Now I know changes were made to CoM following the patch, but has Lord Rak changed or is he bugged? Anyhow I did send a /bugreport and petitioned.

I also tried to turn in the tear while he was attacking us, but he would not take. A chanter said he was mezzable and maybe charm would work for the turn in as well. But what I'm going to do is wait and see if the quest is broke and for them to fix it. Would hate to lose my tear since it was so hard to get.

And how disapointing; I was almost sure I would have my epic last night, lol, oh well.

Hope this helps a little.

tried to finish my shamans epic today, he is kos, we evaced, ran back and unaggroed he is kos. Truespirit faction is maxxed and yet he is kos. Petitioned, Gm could only report the bug and appologize. Two jade reavers dropped from reavers so i guess we came out ahead, although they went to alts. I'm assuming that when someone revamped the zone they made a mistake somewhere with this mobs faction. Hope it gets fixxed soon.

The guild I am in has kill this guy a few times and this is how we did it. We had one Tank someone with good fire resistance and a lot of HP. He was the only guy in melee range. Everyone else stays back. Cleric, druid and shamans keep tank alive with heals while the other melee use arrows and casters nuke him to the ground.

I was with my guild today (I am a 63 gnome SK with preaty decent gear) and we're in a search to pick up some jade reavers because ever quest has an over abundence of druids and ranger of the such. We get inside and i tell the raid leader this dude is up. Some comments were tossed around about people running away from him. So i get raised up on the elevator and give my incomming message and the rogue lets me down... Man was i suprized when he started pulling out his AEs, he killed both groups of people except a necro that managed to get out with FD. But FYI we got him down to 40% with out real cleic power (we had 2 level 62 shammys). The groups consisted of this; group one was 55 druid, 62 shammy, 61 mage, 53 rogue, 49 warrior, and a 63 SK (me). Group two had a 61 necro, 61 mage, 52 bard, 48 ranger, 47 warrior, and a 62 shammy. preaty much everyone below 60 got killed in the first 30% damage done to him. We were also not really expecting him, it was just by chance.

My words of advice for killing this MoB, Get about 3 raid type cleric with good fire resists and 2 good tanks. Fire resist is a must for this dude with his AE, that is what killed most of our non- melees.

Just my ideas.
Rak and his AE

Rak'Ashiir is a very interesting fight indeed...

The time was drawing near for me to have to kill Rak for my 57 shaman alt, so getting to know my enemy well was the first step to victory. Alla and other sites such as the Shaman's Crucible give excellent information about him. While there is already an abundance of info here concerning his level, placement, spawn, pull tactics, peoples fight experiences etc..here's my 2cp on his AE that hasn't been discussed much:

Firstly, the AE's exact name is FlameSongOfRo. Secondly, it is NOT a 2kdd. It is a short DoT that does 850 damage per tick for 2 ticks. In other words, when he firsts casts the AE, you lose 850hp, then another 850hp 6 seconds later. That is all. He AE's probably every 15-20 seconds. It can be resisted. Resistance check is SVF.

Then there's the issue of Mage Fire-Pets being used to tank Rak due to their immunity to his AE. If there is one thing that I hope people get help from my post and others is that this method is outdated and if you rely on this tactic to get your epic, you put yourself and your raiding party in high risk of failing. During the September 4 2002 patch where they changed resistances across the board (not just the pet using the owners resistances), they also made FlameSongOfRo have a -100 resistance check as opposed to baseline 0 resistance check. This change is probably the reason fire pets are no longer immune to the AE. When we prepped and were ready to kill Rak, we had a single paladin tanking Rak the whole fight, and our mage's fire pet got pummeled by the AE. He had to recast many pets during the duration of the fight. So I can say with 110% certainty that fire pets can indeed be affected by the AE.

so many people have tried sorting it out and so many just don't believe it. after reading up on neh and rak`ashiir (getting closer to finishing my epic), it really bothers me, so i can't keep my trap shut.
if you read the shaman epic lore (www.eqshaman.com) neh is rak`ashiir's WIFE, it IS a SHE..... the fact that it's a male iksar ghost model is (as someone said in the neh bestiary page) simple laziness on verant's part.

thank you... end of story.
RE: grr....
# Jul 29 2003 at 2:44 AM Rating: Decent
I think the reason most people are so confused is they can't tell the difference between a male and female iksar. I can't tell the difference between a male and female iksar. They're lizards, they're ugly, that's all I need to know.

how does this make Rak' Ashiir a female?? Well, you might know something that I don't about the sexual preference here, but in my book, he's male

Killing the Lord
# Apr 13 2003 at 5:15 AM Rating: Decent
Went on a raid with a few people for the shaman epic tonight. We had a 65 warrior along with a paladin, shaman, ranger, cleric, rogue and me, the magician ranging from 51 to 57.

We cleared out the thrown room to take the battle inside. The epic turn in failed due to insufficient faction so we decided to kill Rek`Ashiir just to see if we could do it.

The shaman, paladin, and ranger went down in seconds. The cleric kept busy c-healing the warrior while i chaincasted pets. The AOE -as mentioned by another poster- is LOS based so standing behind the pillar was enough to not get hit by the AE blast. It looked like all we really needed as the warrior. He had a really high fire resist and a damage shield. Rek`Ashiir fell in less than 5 minutes with zero adds inside the throne room.

Next time we'll just try with the warrior, cleric and possibly the mage. Oh, and we can't forget to bring the rogue to open the door.

Surviving a Rak Turn-in
# Mar 05 2003 at 2:39 PM Rating: Excellent
Turned in the tear to him and finished my Epic last night. Amazingly enough, I survived the encounter!

I put on all my resist gear first, and had my guildmates buff me with all the magic and fire resist they could muster (both resists were around 200).

I turned in the tear and IMMEDIATELY began casting Kragg's mending on myself. After a second self-heal, his attention turned to the Magician Pet we had bashing on him. At this point, I was able to slip away and assist in the healing of the pet.

So, if you get your resists high enough, and are ready to heal yourself, you can survive Rak's Wrath.

My shammy (56) survived his turn in, too, with only about 150 in fire resists. I backed away when I was sure aggro was off of me.

If you read the shaman discussion boards, you'll see cases of people losing this battle, not being able to keep tanks/pets alive. I think the issue is sometimes Lord Rak casts a damage-shield (which of course quickly eats up your hasted pets/tanks no matter what their resists are).

So I recommend casting annul magic or the equivalent early in the fight, or at least make a point of watching for the damage shield message

Sorry guys... here's an item from my hubby's log.

[Tue Apr 08 00:49:53 2003] You told yennia, 'Neh`Ashiir is he'

He used /tell yennia %T is %S

The "subjective" gender proves that, despite what the 'conversation' might say....

Neh'Ashiir is definitively and absolutely positively MALE, so HE's probably not ANYONES Wife or Daughter. *grin*
RE: Zerks
# Mar 10 2003 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
You need to re-read the conversation posts. Especially the section about finishing the spear. You kill Kirn to get the ring which you give to the Queen (Neh'Ashiir). Then you kill her and get her diary. Turn that in and the spirit tells you that she and the High Scale abandoned the Lord

So Neh'Ashiir is his wife, not his daughter.

Hi Folks,

Having gone through this ordeal 26+ for myself, and watching countless other shamans deal with Rak, I thought to write this little ditty up to help other TE shamans with their last and painful battle of killing Lord Rak.

Know Thy Enemy
The more you know about Rak, the better you can warn your fellow raid members about the dangers of Lord Rak.

Lord Rak'Ashiir is a Nasty Nasty Mob. He can spawn from from the last corpse of a Black Reaver. He is NOT considered undead. Rak can also seemingly just "spawn" in two places, including the throne roome and up in the to of the tower where the elevator leads.

Lord Rak is INITIALLY NON-AGGRO except for:
1) when the shaman turns in the Tear
2) someone attacks him
3) someone with Bad True Faction Spirit is around. (I found this out the hard way, when a wizard who had completed her epic got too close to Rak, causing a TPW. From what I also understand, Pallies can also get bad true faction spirit.)

Once the Tear is turned in, the regular Rak despawns and respawns immediately as the Epic-Mob Rak, and will try to kill the shaman who did the turn-in. (IMPORTANT: The shaman turning in the tear WILL die. So prepare to die!) This particular Rak is KOS to EVERYONE! Once the Tear is turned in, and if all goes wrong, Rak will turn on eveyone. If you do not turn in the Tear to Rak, he will be a "regular" mob, with absolutely no Iksar Scale for turn-in.

Rak cannot be slowed, maliosed, or crippled. Been there, done that...and none of my spells landed before I died.

Rak lands has some nasty AE fire DDs (2K+ damage--1K in two ticks), rains, and DOTs. Rak WILL summon.

RAK GATES! When Rak is down to about 20% of health, he WILL GATE back to his original spawn spot. Be prepared for this event. If he gates, he will call in re-inforcements, so if it occurs, be prepared for multiple adds, from golems, ghosts, and Black Reavers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prepare Your Troops
*Let your raiding party know exactly what they are dealing with Lord Rak. The more your group knows, the less chance of someone gaining aggro who shouldn't, someone won't accidently cast on Rak who shouldn't, someone won't attack Rak who shouldn't. I cannot stress this enough. I've seen too many Rak raids go wrong because someone was Hot Button happy.

*Have several mage fire pets on hand for this fight. I understand that it can be done without mages, but I have not seen or done this, so I will leave it to other shamans to research.

You can have one high level mage fire pet kill Lord Rak. I've seen it done, with Voodini being the only mage. It was a long fight, and everyone who could heal, was healing the pet.

* Melees and non-essential casters need to PARK their butts as far away from Rak as possible, trying very hard to not get Rak's attention.

*Fire pets need to be completely buffed up, and, if possible, given weapons.

*Clerics, druids, other shamans, and anyone who has a minor heal spell should be continually healing the Fire Pets. Make sure all the healers coordinate on this very effort.

*Enchanters need to continually chain Rune the Fire Pets. This will greatly lessen the damage on said pets. One enchanter should be in charge of charming any adds and send in against Lord Rak. Make sure the chanters are coordinating on this very effort. Too many cooks in the kitchen can lead to problems.

*Necros, bards, beastlords should offer secondary support to healers and enchanters to keep mana reserves up.

*BRING PDOTS for your enchanters and clerics. This is *your* last epic fight, shamans. So spend the money and buy at least 5 stacks of pdots to hand out to your enchanters and clerics for buffs and rune-ing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Own Experiences & Some Strategies
I have seen Rak killed (and tried killing) Rak in several places. There are two bad strategies and two seemingly good/doable strategies:

1) [BAD IDEA] in the top room, where the elevator is located. This room is too enclosed for mage pets to fight, and healers to be located. Tried this, and some folks got hit by Rak's AE. Also, unless this room is cleared out well, Black Reavers will begin spawning in this room.

2) [BAD IDEA] on the bridge outside the tower. Several potential things can go wrong here.

a) Rak can fall into the water. This will make targeting the pets for heals difficult.
b) the fire pets can push Rak through the locked door into the other room. This again makes difficult for targeting, and if the room is popping, well, the fire pets will not last long against all those adds.

3) [DOABLE] in the u-bend past the Gazebos. While I have heard of, watched on other EQ player screens, and done this particular strategy, I see several potential problems with it.

a) Rak needs to be successfully pinned against the wall by the fire pets, and no others can cast on him. For my own last battle, someone did something to Rak, which caused him to move towards the group, killing a bunch of people

b) Rak gates. When Rak was down to 20% health, he gated back to his original spawn spot--the throne room--and called in re-inforcements. The melees had to content with a reaver, golem, and several ghosts, while the enchanters, mages, and healers had to scramble to get into the throne room to finish off Rak.

In this particular fight, Sinsa ran into the throne room, keeping a charmed pet on Rak. Rak killed Sinsa in the process. Wageit also ran in, melee'ing Rak until his own death, so that the mages could get into the room so that fire pets could once again re-engage Rak. Outside the throne room, everyone else were engaging the added re-inforcements. (Kudos to the team for the organized chaos!)

We were successful with this strategy, but there was some general chaos to be had.

4) [DOABLE] fight in the throne room. This is probably by far, the best strategy I have seen and partaken in so far. You have to ensure that the throne room is completely empty before you take on Rak.

Any pops or adds that occur can be mezzed or charmed by enchanters to send in against Rak. If Rak gates, and this is his bind spot, he isn't going anywhere.

The fight can take place in one-half of the room, while everyone presses up against the other side of the room. We did this fight with Voodini being the only mage on Bunnion's epic with very little problem.

The one drawback I have seen with this fight, is that if something goes wrong, all of you are trapped in this locked room. During my 2nd fight with Rak, we had to help the guild ,who were killing Rak at the time before our raid, do a complete CR because Rak was aggro'd, killing 90% of the raiding party. Rak died, but a MASSIVE CR ensued after.

5) Let the Shaman Pull. The shaman, after turning in the tear, can pull Rak to whatever spot you choose. Make sure that you pull Rak and die where you need him fought. You can try casting on him, but chances are you'll be resisted. Only have a pet in the case of killing him in the Throne Room, because it will be easier to control your pet in that enclosed area. If you try to pull him to the u-bend with a pet, the pet might engage him too soon. Dismiss your pet if you're fighting in the u-bend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rak Bugged?
Rak bugged? OF COURSE HE IS! This is the bane of this particular epic. Rak is bugged. Accept it. He will despawn!! I had to go to the GM TWICE to ask refund of the tear. Verant/SoE have *no* clue why this happens. This is why a GM was present at my last Rak fight...to see what happens.

You will either have to fight Rak only once....or twice...or, in my case, thrice.

I have spoken with GMs about this, and shamans who have had this problem. Here are some things you should know:

1) If you TPW, you need to re-engage the epic'd Rak (who is KOS to everyone) almost immediately. You cannot take 20-30 minutes for a CR. Rak will DESPAWN. He seems to have a despawn time after the tear is turned in.

2) If Rak gates, there is a slight chance, he will respawn as the non-epic'd Rak with no Iksar Scale. This happened to Bunnion's first fight with Rak. Even though, Rak was killed, no Iksar Scale was on the body!

3) If Rak gets pushed through a wall and/or gates while being pushed through a wall, he might respawn as the non-epic'd Rak.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some Additional Information

1) I have heard that once Rak is below 50%, wizards and damage casters can start casting on him. However, I caution all casters here to not gain aggro from Rak.

2) At 50%, I also heard that chanters can start mana-sieving Rak. Again, having not seen this myself...use at your own risk.

3) I have read that Rak can be memory-wiped in the case of him aggro'ing on someone who attacked too soon, before the tear turn-in. Again, not sure here since I haven't seen it.

4) Shamans..turn down your clipping plane, turn off spell effects, and anything that will CUT down on Lag. When I did my turn-in, and running for the u-bend, I hit a lag-spike and the next thing I know...I'm IN the water! ACK! TE is a massive gravity well with all the particles, spells, epics, and general known over-kill numbers! Running on the bridge and falling into the water is not fun! Take it from my own experience!

Mafdet D'lion,

Thanks for letting me post Wageit,
-------------------------------------------------------------
Some added information, I figure I should repost;

How the shaman epic works,
The shaman epic is structured around faction rather then the typical progressive hand-ins. At completion of the sub-quest the shaman is awarded faction at increasing amounts. its common practice for a shaman to complete all the sub quests upto the black dire in MM (you get a cool set of boots), then redo the killing of the guys in RM till you get "cant get any better".

How Rak and the spectral wolf work,
when the tear is turned into Rak he does a faction check on the giver, if he faction is sufficient then he respawns a version of himself with an "Iksar scale". once killed anyone can loot Rak and receive the scale. After that the looting shaman then needs to go to a spectral wolf in EJ and turn in the Iksar scale and get the epic. Like Rak the Wolf does a faction check on the giver and a new twist a level check. From what I have gathered SOE put in a twist after a few level 1 shaman, Rangers and druids were walking around with epics. So now key NPC's do a level check on the PC, if the PC is less then 46 it will not perform the actions required. In the case of the Wolf, no epic.

How do you know something is wrong
If you hand in the tear and nothing happens at all, your faction check failed. If your not the one turning in the tear you will know something is up if Rak attacks the turn in but is indiffrent to you. Warning: There are people who try to sell you the MQ to Rak but are infact scamming you. They will go up to Rak and say they are turning it in then they just taunt him or attack him to get him to agro. SOE support staff will not "respawn" Rak or give you the scale, they will ONLY refund the tear and only if you had it in your inventory. Only pay after you have the scale.

Now that you got the scale now what? This is the time to check your self. am I 47+ did I get "cant get any better faction". Warning: some people have been stating that you just need kindly to get your epic. This is not true, I have verified this myself. If you are kindly before you do the hand, once you hit trade your faction will bump up a full lvl (maybe more). If your recieving an MQ you must have max faction the wolf will not give the tear unless you are. I have seen 3 folks will Ally fail but have yet see or heard a max fail.

its Lord Rak'Ashiir and the Lady Neh'Ashiir. Yes she is female, she fell in love with the high scale Kirn who now lives in the hole. Part of the Shaman epic is to seek him out and give him a ground spawn idol from CoM he will respawn as a KOS to all version and you must kill him and loot his ring, if you kill him with out turning in the idol he drops nothing. Once that is done you then return to CoM and turn in the ring to the Lady Neh'Ashiir and she confesses and tries to kill you (again she respawns into a KOS to all version and tries to kill eveyone) you loot he diary from her to turn into the spirit (ghost wolf) in the emerald jungle and you are told of the iskare child taken by CT and tormented in the Plane of Fear. The rest you should know,

Neh'Ashiir was the wife of Lord Rak'Ashiir.
But, if you look at him, he's clearly a male Iksar.
Apparently the Iksar have a culture where one's wife may be male.

More likely they did not make both male and female ghost versions for Iksar models as they did for Erudite model ghosts in The Hole.

This totally makes sense! Everyone calls Rak'Ashiir "he" and assumes that means Neh'Ashiir is a "she" then wonders why Neh'Ashirr is a male Iksar model. Doh. Rak'Ashiir is the wife of Neh'Ashiir.

I can't believe I'm actually posting about the gender of Iksar ghosts. So pitiful.

fought him tonite by mistake, was just looking for Lord Ghiosk for the 3books part of my epic.
Turned out it was Rak Ashiir, saw entire grps hps fly down from his AoE. Was me 61 shammy, MA 60 pally, 60 rogue, 55 war, 59 cleric, 59 wizzy, 56 monk and 53 bard. In 30 seconds only people left were me, pally, cleric, and wizzy. Wizzy stayed out of AoE range and cleric went oom from all the healing. I was chain casting chloroplast on MA was down to 20m while he had 20life (with his LH down). Finally the ******* died. What does this say??? He's not at all that hard if you are prepared, we werent prepared and still defeated him.

You're wrong, shaman friend. There are 2 versions of Lord Rak : The one you fought 'by mistake', which is the standard version (hard but not that much, which explain you've been able to manage him with a single - but strong - group) and the 'hard' version of Lord Rak, which is his epic version.

You can only turn Lord Rak in his epic version by giving him the Tear looted from PoF (so this cannot be a 'mistake' fight). Lord will instant aggro you and this version is the badass one. Enchanter fire pets are the best way to have him down as he uses fire AoE doing 2K+ damages each time (2 ticks of 1K each but small radius). This version of Lord is the only one dropping the Iksar Scale for which the sentinel spirit will reward you with the Spear of Fate.
Now, if you don't handle him the PoF Tear, you will ALWAYS fight the regular version of Lord Rak and he will NEVER drop the Scale. Also notice that 90% of the shaman die on this fight because of huge amount of damage so get a cleric ready to rez you. Notice this happen to most shaman, it's normal so no shame if you die :-) Remember to bring 55+ enchanters and ask them to park their fire pets around Lord Rak, this is the BEST way to succeed. Also, remember you should NEVER start the fight when the Lord is on the Bridge (causes too many problems).

IMPORTANT NOTE : Verant pacthed the shaman Epic in Oct.2002, making that the Tear isn't MD'able anymore. To do so, Verant added those checks on Lord Rak (confirmed to me by several GM, i also saw myself some failed attempts to MQ the Tear since October so those infos are CERTIFIED) :

1) Only a shaman (and no other classes, like SK before)
2) having enough true spirit faction (at least the same amount as someone who did ALL the previous parts of shaman epic)
3) NOT having already a Spear of Fate
4) Handing in the Tear (no drop)

Only a shaman matching those conditions can make Lord Rak turns into his epic version, which is the one dropping the Iksar Scale needed to complete the Shaman Epic. This means the Tear isn't MQ'able anymore so i warn you all to avoid a big sadness if you try and just loose the Tear.

Now, everyone can do the wandering 'regular' version of Lord Rak as you did, you just didn't fight his Epic version (proof is it didn't drop the Iksar Scale). Please, notice all this before you proceed to your last fight, shaman friend. I wish all you much luck in your epic,

1) 2) and 4) have always been true.

3) is false. Handing in a child's tear works fine, whether or not you already have a Spear of Fate. The quest NPC does not look in your inventory.

What DID change in Oct/Nov 2002 was a faction hit during the final epic turn-in that lowers your Truespirit faction all the way back down to indifferent. To turn in another child's tear, you would simply need to work your faction back up to max. I've done this successfully myself.

I can't believe you are a Shaman and don't know this.

1. Rak is the same pre-handin as he is post-handin. He doesn't respawn when you hand him the tear.

2. WTF is an "enchanter fire pet"? You mean Magician....

Rak is just as tough if you fight him as part of the Shaman epic or as part of a Reaver run. Whether he drops the scale or not is neither hear nor there in regards to his difficulty.

Oh and Rak has always been doable by a single group in either circumstance:

1. Cleric
2. Healer
3. Mage
4. Mage
5. Mage
6. Whatever

Lord Rak respawn

Lord Rak DOES respawn when you hand in the child's tear, just like Neh`Ashiir does, just like High Scale Kirn does.

The original Lord Rak is on Truespirit faction (ally to a questing Shaman) and won't have an iksar scale in his loot table. He stays up permanently until you either hand in the child's tear or kill him.

The respawned Lord Rak is KoS and has the iksar scale in his loot table. The respawned version despawns after a period of time if you fail to kill him. The respawned version also has an extra space at the end of his name which is visible in your log file.

I'm not sure if one's really harder than the other; they seem to fight about the same.

-> I didn't talk about respawn like he disappear and reappear, i talked about NPC swapping. Lord Rak will swap into Epic version (more HP, AC, resist + the drop of course). Simply fight him out of Epic context (without handing in the Tear) then handing the Tear : You will see a difference (he's not hard anyway but theres a difference).

-> Yes, my bad i guess everyone corrected, it's magician fire pet i was talking about.

Ok to responed,
I have done Rak 26 times in over a year. Both as a Shaman and as a ranger MQing the tear. These are the things I know as fact

1. Lord Rak does respawn upon hand in of the tear, this is how he becomes loaded with the iksar Scale which the Shaman will need to turn in to get the spear of fate. He is KOS to everyone (major change from indiff to all) He also jumps a few lvls from blue to a 55 to yellow post turn-in. His AoE fire effect is the same on both versions and it is not directional, it is truely an AoE.

2. a simple mistake, I imagin he ment Mage fire pet. While lord Rak has changed very little since the quest was released Mage fire pets have, they no longer have immunity to fire based spells. As such the old method of sending in a few fire pets to melee him to death does not work as easily now. Most Rak raids I attend have 2 groups of consisting of 2 enchanters to haste and chain rune the pets, 3 clerics to heal the pets as they are damaged somewhat by the AoE and 1 to 3 mages depending on lvl to command the fire pets. Added members that help are necros for twitching. Come very stocked in gems and Buff the pets up to the max.

got one mage, but lots of enchanters

TE did him last night on Inny server.
We fought him in the thrown room, which is not bad at all. Have the enchanters charm the adds and send them to attack Rak.

Used only one 60 lvl pet, no recasts and 11 min.

Also rangers can use bows on him for added damage with little risk.

i think a few peeps have their Lords and such mixed up,

Lord Rak ashir final kill for shammy epic is NoN kos to most(least every person ive ever hunted with) if you did kill any of the true spirit faction mobs(ghost wolves or the wandering spirit in WK, looks like a willowisp) then you prolly kos but not sure

Neh ashir Raks wife 2nd to last kill for sham epic and one of the kills for mage, this is the mob you turn the promise ring into (thats the ring you get from Krin in the hole)

and Lord grisok this is the mob you need to kill(as a sham) to get the books you turn into the spirit sentinal in EJ( not the one under water the one in the tower)

so for everyone thats calling Neh ashir Lord, thats wrong maybe Dutchess or what ever the wife of a Lord is called but shes not a lord,(unless shes a cross dresser)
