I soloed one last night with my 51 necro. The one I got was probably around 45, since it hit me for 144 a couple of times. Landed darkness, asytole, ebolt and splurt, but ignite blood was resisted four times in a role. Took all of my mana and only had one bub of health left at the end. Droped a chunk of meat and a wurm scale. It was definitely one of the more exciting fights I have had by myself.

44 necro, my idiot group wasnt paying attention and i soloed one to about 2%hp and i used aystole VoS and chilling embrace... of couse necros know scourge is crap. it conned blue ant it was pretty easy with fear and quad 47 ing pet :D *flexes wimpy necro muscles*
Use your best pet and your 29 dooming darkness. Just pull with dark, fear, pet. Reapply darkness every so often and fear every 40 seconds or so. Just sit and med the rest of the time. Your DOTs and IB are useless so don't waste your mana. Just use the pet. Takes a while but I can solo even the 47 ones and have more mana than when I started, and that's without COB on. Use this same technique on the giants!!!
i'm a 46 necromancer and these wurms definitely offer the best fights you can ever get in norrath. the safest way to solo these are to set camp near the giant fort and wait till you spot one. i'd suggest having a jboots on you since they can be really nasty when not darknessed. it's really a matter of luck. if you happen to pull a high level one (45 to 47) you'll definitely spot a difference in the way they resist your spells. i've had darknessed resisted 4 times flat before it caught up on me and pummeled me all the way to dirt. could never forget that moment *sigh*. anyway, when you pull with darkness and it DOES stick, you just gained victory. dark, fear and apply asystole. oh dont forget to augment your pet beforehand as it will deal roughly 30-40% more damage than when it doesnt. watch out for wandering mobs. as i've said before the best place to fight these creatures is just around the giant fort. open, clean and clear. apply fear ever 20-30 seconds. if you let fear to worn off before re-appying again, you just made a fatal mistake. these bad boys hit for 140+ and can definitely kill your pet within seconds (imagine if fear worn off, you re-cast fear, it resisted, again, resisted again..) . your pet is the one doing the bashing and kicking and it WILL be your last line of defence. dont forget to re-dark the wurm every 1 minute. expect a long fight. dont bother stacking venom of snakes, scourges or other dots. your mana wont be enough for all of these (unless you got some top-class equipments lol) i killed one with 192 int, jboots, and a 45 hitting pet. it's all possible.

I just moved to BW at level 52 with my druid, and have yet to be able to land a Breath of Ro on these bad boys. Drifting Death and Engulfing Roots work just dandy...just takes longer to kill em without Breath.
I pretty much just stick to greater plague skeletons, moldering / tottering gorillas, and non-spellcasting sarnaks. I found that the hornet area is a relatively safe area to sit and to fight, so I'm choosing to keep my non-kos faction with them.
At 52 druid, I get Breath of Ro to stick fairly often. I cast Ice first, 612 DD and 10 second FR debuff - hits nearly EVERY time for full, I have never seen it miss in BW. BoR sticks maybe 60% of the time after that.
I've hit Scoria hornets, gorillas, giants, and Sarnaks in BW using Ice first. I usually don't go after the Wurms, but I doubt they are more FR than Scoria Hornets.

As a necro, even the 47 wurms are easy. Just darkness, fear, send pet, bond of death, re-dark, splurt and/or ebolt, med, and refear as needed. unless of course you have fear resisted 2 times in a row in which case hope FD doesnt make you fall to the ground lol
I wouldn't say easy, true if you keep it darked/feared, then yes you can I am a lvl 45 necro and can solo a blue on, the trouble is in burning and skyfire area there is too many wandering MoBs as soon as the wurm fears away, it'll cross paths with something else that will then argo your pet and then your in trouble.
They vary in difficulty. We fought a couple last night and one was easy while the other was very hard, hitting multiple 147's numerous times. The tough one had to have 8000 HP's easy. Our wizard ICed it 4 times alone.
stupid player i am 51 nec and they resist to me; then u cant kill them at 40 its rideculous; they resist to my dot and ignite bone i can only use BoD and spirit tap but i dont ever try slurp
There seem to be to different types of wurms with the same name in Burning woods the 42 level and below that hit for around 115 can be hit with fire spells and the 41 and above level that hit for 130 plus are completely fire resistant. 46th level wizard here, No way to tell the wurms appart besides letting a tank get hit first to tell you how much they are doing
The lvl range is off or has been changed, because at 39 i have seen many blacks and blues near the FM zone tunnel. As a necro with jboots i can solo the blues and blacks.
Level 39 wurms have around 4400 hps I'd guess. Level 43-44 wurms have 6,000-6,500 hps. Level 47 wurms have around 8,000 hps. I know this from experience on kiting almost a hundred of them (Level 55 Wiz). You can tell what level they are if they happen to hit you. The top level wurms(47 seems right) hit for max 149 damage.
Oh btw, I don't use Ice Comet anymore. I just load up Voltaic Draught and pepper em with this when kiting (I got jboots). It is more mana efficient than IC. Load up your gear on mana items all the way. Level 47's can take up to an average of 15 Voltaic Draughts to kill. Make sure you have full mana when starting cause your gonna have to root at the end and collect mana (via harvest) if ya get a 47 wurm. Level 43-45's can be done with just a full tank. Use Immobilize to root cause its the quickest root spell, hehe don't let em hit ya. Also use Bonds of Force to snare em first, it seems to be never resisted and uses less mana than Spectral Shackles.
The SW area of the (from the hornet nest to DL path to FG Fort to meteor crater west of FG Fort) zone DOES have the highest wurms. To the left and NE of the FG fort spawns the named ones. The area towards Chardok (NE) have the lower level ones (mostly green to me in this area now).
Well good luck, i can post more info if your interested.
Hey I was wondering if a lvl 40 wizard has ANY chance of soloing one of these? I tried one that conned yellow to me and started kiting it near the entrance with BoF. Nuked it a couple times and got partial resists and just zoned. Wondering if I actually tried if I could kill one.
sadly not much of a chance....perhaps if got full on damage 100% and zero resists could take the lower level 42 ones (BTW i was 42 and saw one as BLACK con so i know it is 42). But considering the other nasty creatures that run rampant in BW i would never suggest it alone. Take an example. my team was whacking Forest Giants here and a sarnak avenger (?name) came up on us and cut through our 47-49 tanks like a hot knife through butter.

Actually they are on the Minions of Scale faction, closely related to Ring of Scale, and as far as I can tell they start KoS to all.

Solo'd several wurms recently. As someone stated, north of FM zone tunnel the worms are green and low blue to me (lvl 53), however, I fought several at the west crater (near the giant fortress), all were blue to me and hit from 131, to 141...had to run from that one as I just couldn't get off my last spell. They drop about 4 to 6 plat. I probably killed 6 or 8 and didn't see anything other than a wurm scale which is not stackable and sold for a plat. The ones near the crater are very fire resistant, however magic based hit with no resist. Oh, and they probably run slower than your average mob.
in my eye, a high level mob that can be kited easy yet drops no loot aside from high level gems and spells is a necros dream =) i havent gone here yet, but my guildmate is constantly there kiteing and hes gaining levels pretty fast, so i'm gonnahave to get him to show me the rops there
I was in a full group of 35-40s yesterday near the FM tunnel to the zone. All of the Wurms we fought (of about 4-5) conned even to yellow to our level 40 ranger.
I could land spells on these at 35 with tashani, and didn't get a single resist (even on the highly resistant enchanter DD).
They usually drop about 4-5 plat in cash, and I think we got a gem or two.

For those looking for confirmation on the maximum level on these, I can verify that they are at least 45th since I have recieved the high end scroll drops on them. I'd go for 47th as well, since a few of these have nicked me for 149 damage, and it'd be sick for a 45th to hit that high ;)

The level of the wurm is dependant on where you find it. Certain areas of the zone have higher levels of the same version of mobs. Coming down the trail from dreadlands, if you turn right at the bottom and run a ways, you will find some of the lower level mobs, including the lower level worms, which have around 4500 hps (takes four ice comets to kill one). However if you go further into the zone, near the giant fort, the wurms are higher level. I hit one with 5 ice comets once and it could have taken two more at least, so it must have had around 7500-8000 hps. Nasty to say the least. I had to run hehe
