Haunted Butcherblock
# Jan 16 2009 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
The Haunted Butcherblock quest was given to my level 10 Troll Warrior. When I got to chessboard I learned that soloing white con Undead Pawns makes for a truly even fight. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, and even when I win I'm down to 4% HP or so. Blue cons are considerably easier to solo, usually taking me to only 50-60% HP. With a bow and arrow it's easy to pull single mob.

So I was at the chessboard one fine day, intending to camp it, when I saw that there was but one undead pawn and one corpse. Clearly someone had gotten there first, so I figured I'd just take out the last one then go elsewhere. I pulled the pawn a little ways away, then commenced to rooting & nuking him. Then all of a sudden, this guy comes flying by with two pawns on his tail! It looked like he was trying to train the pawns onto me, but they kept on him like pitbulls on a poodle. I was nearly out of mana, and so was unable to do anything to help.

Well, after I'd dealt with my pawn, I went over to the LDoN camp, where the guy was training his pawns all over the other PCs. They eventually took the undeads out, and the guy (an enchanter, I think) was able to calm down and rest. He may have accidentally pulled more than he could handle, but I thought it irresponsible of him to try and train the mobs off onto other folks!

I can usually get the Chess board to myself and wack these things all day for good exp. My LVL 12 Ranger cons blue, but they stun and will get me at least down to Half HP. They do not spawn quickly but there will be 5 on the board if no one has been there in a while. There are two that will aggro on you in the back of the chess board. I can handle them but it is close every time. Great fun when there is no one camping there. If there is some one camping I just hunt animals that con blue or light blue until they leave.

Root - Nuke

I am a level 11 cleric and I can solo pawns in my sleep. Since I am a cleric, I use the alter skill all the time so my root sticks like dingleberries on your, you know. All I do is soothe if it is surrounded and root it. Then I nuke it with ward undead untill it is dead. I never even get hit. There has only been 2 or 3 times my root hasen't stuck and I have been there for 3 levels now. The root always lasts me the whole time. If by accident I pull 2, one is already rooted, and I just Spook the Dead it and it runs, I nuke the rooted one and med untill the feared one comes back, root it, nuke it, repeat.

AS a lvl 11 mage they conned blue and white to me. I took down 6 of them one at a time by having the trees and hills block out all but the one I firebolted. I figured if I couldn't see them they couldn't see me. It seemed to work; but if more than one attacked they took me out. It was a lesson I learned from the{ Ravenous bugbladder beast} Those who know it will understand..
Pawns at lvl 8

Myself (lvl 8 wiz) and my lvl8 bard friend had no trouble taking them out one by one, though they conned yellow. The bard would pull one and kite it in circles around me while I nuked. When the pawn finally noticed me he was already down two thirds and died within seconds with both of us hitting it. Brought me down to two bubbles of health each time though, but the exp was great.

Undead Pawn

These things are fairly easy. As a level 9 Erudite necromancer I can solo these with about one bubble of mana left. Just use ward undead to aggro it, send pet to tank, then keep warding undead. Great xp for the level.

The first time i saw one of these i thought i was ducked so i ran by itand it agroed on me. I get hit once so i hit d and the thing gets even bigger so after i kill it i check my stats and i wasn't drunk. i shout and it turns out they were suposed to be that tall.
HAHAHA these are childs play.

I came to the chess board at 6 and killed 3 of these on my own. they aint that hard. Spose I AM a dwarf cleric (awsome combo) so i just spook the dead and ward it. Although it got resisted a fair bit.

Of course you are a dwarf cleric. Kinda reminds me of me soloing yellow and red ghould in unrest without touching them with melee. Hmm, 91dmg for cheap mana at lvl 14 IS pretty nice

<that's us, the clerics)))>

it is very easy to lite these guys up. I am a lvl 10 paladin and the spook the dead spell works great. As soon as they start to run away i stun them with a bash and take them down with my sword.

All the pawns I have fought have conned even and yellow to me at lvl 9. Just thought I should post this info.
Hunting pawns

Group of 4 8th level PCs can take a pawn routinely. Group of 6 gives next to no down time between pulls. Great experience, lousy loot.

I love to hunt these suckers with my lvl 12 wizard friend and a lvl 14 warrior. I am a lvl 12 ranger and we have been here since lvl 10.
Undead Pawn

If u try and solo this undead as a lvl 12 bard, it always con blue to you. But if u solo it, u better have good equipment cause these things can bash and stun and stop your songs. It is best if u have a group when fighting these undead

They con white & blue to lvl 11 Bar. Shaman. There are 3 you can pull seperately, & the 2 in the back are 2 close to each other to pull individually.
Here is the deal. If you are looking at the board from the east of the zone by the female npc there you can pull the one in the front left, front right & back right. The 2 in the back middle are too close to each other. They are great exp. & BAD loot. I got 1/2 bubble this morning from 3 whites & 2 blues.

these critters are usually found in the chessboard and conned yellow to me at lvl 8, i dont dare mess with them because there are sooo many of em on the chessboard
