It also drops on the fabled version. Its funny, this sold for more dkp than the fabled drop :)

That's pretty funny, but that 15% mod, I believe, is the largest in game. Their is 1 or 2 other 15% to trade skills in that expansion. I'd spend DKP on that to save $$$ on skill up combines.

If you have a smithing skill of 240 or higher this item will help you NO MORE THEN A 5% Geerlok. THis is because last time I checked the functional skill cap is 252, so you do not smith at a skill higher then 252 at anytime no matter what geerlok you have. If you have a skill of 230 then this item will help you get to that 252 cap, BUT so will the much easier to posses Massice Girdle of the Forge from Santus Seru. The people who would get the most out of a 15% smithing item would be abyone with a skill less then 230 or who are not eligble for the Massive Girdle due to class and race restrictions.

....Thus any item with a mod better then 5% is really best used by someone who is striving to reach 250 not someone who already has. (so I would give it to anyone with a skill of 201-229....anyone 230-239 go get massive girdle, anyone 240+ a tinker geerlock will do you just as well as anything else

Over a year later...smithing cap at 300 now i believe. 250 + 15% = 37 free points :P

Before the BlackSmithing Mastery 1-3 AAs, i believe the 20x combines per 1 skillup average held true for many high end 222-250 combines. with 50% less failures on BSM3, I am sure the combine per skillup ratio probably got a little better, but not too much, knowin SoE :P.

Free 37 points at the high end of smithing is nothin to balk at imo :)

All i have to say is that i wish this hammer didnt have the extra stats or the good dmg/delay on it, because frankly some guilds are retarded and some people would want it to use cause of the stats or the dmg/delay, damnit i want it for smithing! and only for smithing, i dont want compitition with others so that i can save myself like, god only knows how much plat it would save me, thats my input :P

Sorry but any sane guild will only let their Smithies bid for this. Some of the items they make has very good stats so any leader who think this should go to anyone else ought to delete their guild and not infest EQ with their noob-plague.
RE: Rarr
# Aug 15 2004 at 7:53 PM Rating: Decent
Pre-GoD there is nothing GM Smithies can make that is 1h and even compares to the stats on this. There is nothing they can make that will really be upgrades for "any sane guild". Anyhow if your killing this mob that means your guild is probably farming SSRA either for VT access or just Emp/Cursed kills (meaning you are capable of killing . So IMHO there isn't too much that a smithie is going to be able to do to upgrade a guild capable of farming these mobs. On the other hand, you can give it to ANY class that can use it and see a great improvment accross the board.

you do realize how good elemental armors are, right? who cares about this as a weapon? a CHoS is a better raw weapon than this thing, and the people that kill this mob can easily get the money to buy GoD weapons.

not to say what their smithies could make for the guild as a whole for upgrades. But sure let some non showing person who makes only 1/5 of the raids have it. It'll get plenty of use.

After a quick kill of XTC. Two of this hammer dropped. Of course, only blacksmiths in the guild were allowed to roll for it. I was shocked when I won. With my 200 skill, I am at 230 and I am able to make the Ethereal Metal Rings and Ethereal Sheet of Metal to help in the ornate stuff that the guild has required. As a shammy, I banked my epic for the HP, AC and mana on this thing. Now to just put in the 3 aa so I can get my smithing to 220 and be forever done with smithing hehe.

# Feb 26 2003 at 2:13 AM Rating: Default
My guild have done XTC a number of times now and the requirement is much less than that of AoW. You need around 7 clerics and at least 3 level 65 MT's plus a whole host of other people for AoW. We took down XTC with 30 people, only two tanks and four clerics. A lot of this game is about tactics not about zerging mobs so some mobs can be taken down with fewer people if you have good guild members who know what they are doing. In the case of AoW, unless your MT has so many AA points that he has perma defensive(effectively) then you have to switch MT's which invariably means your old MT dieing whilst chain switches and you run the risk of wiping whilst new MT gets aggro.

Anyone that says that this should be in the hands of a MT obviously knows nothing about endgame everquest. If your MT would use this, then you are hurting. If you're doing creator in ssra, you've done Tunare and AoW and all of NToV by then, so your MT's should be decked out with BoC's and maybe even other ssra weapons from the cursed cycle or basement rhags. Primal and whatever else they can get. No melee would ever use this weapon for tanking if you can achieve it. It should only go to casters/priests, because they are the people that get bored enough to work tradeskills anyhow ;)
RE: Dumb People...
# Jul 01 2003 at 7:37 PM Rating: Good
If someone was using this to main tank I'd feel pretty bad about the rangers and rogues. Other than that, I'm a warrior and i tradeskill too, I would love to have this hammer just for that. as for rangers/rogues/other melee, well, they get better ratio weapons with procs, so honestly this thing is just a tradeskill toy.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 15 2002 at 10:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) IMHO there is only one class that would truely use ALL of the stats on this weapon, and that is a Pally. Stuns draw aggro so HP/STA is nice. Mana/Wis is nice for that extra couple of stuns. the 13/20 plus strenght plus a couple of haste items will be very useful for adequate damage output from a secondary damage dealer without drawing aggro. plus, it is only one handed allowing a nice shield (or something else) in offhand. BTW I am NOT a Pally, nor have I ever played one, just seems logical to me.

This is a blacksmithing tool, more than it is a weapon. As far as I know, this is the ONLY +15% smithing item that is usable by all races. I believe the is a lage race only belt as well.

Ideally, it would go to a smith who would also benefit from the stats and ratio. Take for example my Cleric, who is a 202 skill smith. This hammer would make his effective skill 232. Since his current effective skillwith geerlok is 212 this weapon is a sweet upgrade. Plus, as a primary hand item for grouping, it is an upgrade from his current one, until he gets his epic.

But the weapon aspect of this is just so trivial compared to it's value as a smithing tool. It's almost not worth mentioning that it has a melee ratio.

To try to understand the value of the smithing modifer, picture this: My smith has done about 400 pirces of armor, weapons, etc. to get from skill 199 to 202. Even with better luck, it would take me at least 800 more to get my raw skill up to 221 (232 effective with geerlok). Since NOTHING with trivials above 188 can be made easily in mass, this would probably involve the investment of several hundred hours, and possibly incur losses in excess of 200 THOUSAND platinum.

With the hammer, I could start making Black acrylia weapons, and blue diamond cultural with decent success rates, producing items my guildmates could actually use.

Also for the type of guild that would actually get this thing, they would be looking into Seru bane weapons, and this would increase the success rates on the sheet combines.

while the ratio is 13/20, which is fairly common at the lvl of game play needed to down this mob, the kicker on this weapon is the 15sta and 100hp. Every tank in my guild would want this. No caster of any kind would have a shot at this weapon. PERIOD. With most tanks easily reaching the AC cap it all comes down to hp. this has exceptional hp's. warrior 100% of the time. argue all you like but in functionality it can serve no one better than the MT.

LOL driztone what are you smoking? As a cleric you won't be meleeing and if your guild is decent then you won't be needing the extra HP I mean at high end gaming what is 100 hp to a cleric? however to a warrior MT that is much more worthy. All you gimps that say everyone should roll will never be in a powerful guild as powerful guilds understand that to accomplish hard tasks you need to have at least 2 decked out tanks with 7k+ hp.

Peace out
# Dec 02 2002 at 9:59 PM Rating: Good
Id have to say this would make an exeptional shaman hammer. Uber hp and prolly only class that would take all the stats. Really I doubt high end guilds that can get this give there MT a hammer for there are alot more exeptional wepons out there and ask this to yourself how many warrior wepons are out there they have decent stats compared to warrior? Look through ssra loots and im sure there are 2x better stuff for you tanks

Just my 2 cents

This will be going to the guild's blacksmith. Since there are some smithed items you need to make for Lord Seru, that are not trivial at 250 smithing skill, you will be needing all the smithing power your guild can muster. If there were NO smithing modifier, then it would indeed be a tank weapon. In the case of this item, the smithing modifier outweighs ALL other considerations.
RE: For the Guild Smith only
# Sep 03 2003 at 1:15 AM Rating: Default
too bad, all tradeskills cap at 252. give this to someone who is stuck at 188.
better yet, give it to someone who does not have conventional cultural smithing so they can actually make it past 200 with their sanity.

to give this to someone over 215 or so skill would be a complete waste of the item imo..
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 30 2002 at 4:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) At 250 smithing skill (the skill level I would hope a Seru Weapons maker is at...) a 5% item would bring him to the 255 skill cap... so no, this will not be going to the guild smith,

Yeah, I have to agree. While 15sta/100hp is excellent for a MT, the ratio is NOT and there is no aggro proc on it either. Keeping big stuff off of rogues and debuffers will be very tough with this.

I'm glad I'm not in your guild. As a shaman I better have a shot at this weapon. Put my epic in the range slot this in the primary. It has AC, HP, STA, MANA, and WIS, everything a shaman (and other classes as well) could use.

You do like your heavy hitting mobs slowed don't you? Wanna rez your shaman after every slow?
# May 14 2002 at 11:51 PM Rating: Default
once again the stereotypical "this weapon is best for . . . " shows it's ugly face. I have a cleric that would love 100 extra hp,100 extra mana and extra ac. . .I'm sure any class could have a reason for the stats that has.

If this dropped and my guild didn't give me the chance at this weapon, I would leave the guild. . You must be in a tyrant guild for it to be handed to a tank. Besides, what tank cares about 100 extra mana!!! It's designed for every class. You bleed and you will use all the time, you should roll.

If you are at the point of actually being able to take down the Creator, this weapon's damage/delay is way low for most if not all of your melee, and has ZERO taunt. I don't know of a warrior that would use this, unless it's for a non-agro weapon to use until it's their time to tank.

Goofball rogue, notice it only goes into the PRIMARY MELEE slot. ZERO tanks would want this POS (to them) if they are ever expected to hold agro. And since you lose the item bonuses when you equip something else, you are either ignorant or high to think "every tank would want this".

As for leaving a guild if you aren't allowed to roll on an item that has stats you want... well, it doesn't sound like YOU, nor your guild, will kill anything that closely resembles the Creator.

Attitude goes a long way to being able to outfit a guild and get them prepared to doing many high end mobs in this game, and it starts with understanding your role and being selfless enough to see that if you are excluded from an item like this, it's because it would better suited somewhere else.

There are a ton of items in this game that have stats every class will benefit from, it doesn't mean that your class is best suited to using that particular item. Granted, in the guild that I am a member of, this item might go to a preist or caster class, since it's damage output is nothing particularly special, but the fact that you'd say you would leave a guild if you couldn't have a "chance" at this weapon shows you have little regard for others or trust in your officers.

Equipping this item over the Cleric epic, you gain 18 base AC, 100hp, 5sta (20 more hp), and 15str. You lose 20wis and 10all saves, to say you'd leave a guild over that is silly, especially if your guild normally does MOBs such as the Creator.

No one wanted this as it is pretty much crap for everyone at that raid. No one would wanna spend the merit on this **** when their is better weapons from similar and even lower mobs such as Tunare and NToV to spend merit on. Gratz smiths, this is a good tool for them!

You got it backward, it would be a waste to give this to anyone EXCEPT the blacksmith.

There is ONE smith I know of on my server who has this hammer. She has 220ish skill, and can easily make the new blue diamond cultural armor.

220 +(.15*220)= 253

Two more skillups, and she is at max effectiveness. My smith, on the other hand, will need 243 skill (+5% geerlok), for best shot at Heraldic.

A guild who can get this probably won't need it for melees. However, they may need some heraldic armor, especially the Fierce heraldic.

Having the extra smithing skill for the whole guild certainly seems to outweigh the benefits of having the stats for one necro.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 02 2002 at 10:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Im sure by the time a guild can raid this and there is a blacksmith in it they would easily have it already GM'ed and I am gonna fall outa my chair if you think ssra guilds need cultural armor. It may give one good blacksmith but no one in the guild better not need and really at that level smithing is for there own profit. And if there is a char in that guild that needs to get smithing maxed im very sure he can do it with ease with the inflow of cash he/she makes

Umm, no. Verant has plainly stated that only skill level affects success. The higher of int/wis determines skill ups, and secondary stats(like str for smithing, dex for flecthing) come into play to a lesser degree.

Str, int and wis determines skill ups in smithing according to eqtraders. Tests were performed with a character drunk enough to have an int value of 1. Go to and look it up.

From my experiance with in game drinking, you can't lower your int to 1 unless it starts out VERY low and you have some int debuffs. Maybe even then not. Could be wrong, but from 75 int on my Human Rogue after some heavy heavy home brewed drinks, mine wouldn't go belo 40-50ish

Also, if you have a higher Alcohol tolerance, you can consume more alcohol...I'm not sure if this lets you get more of an "effect" from it, or if it's simply the fact that it doesn't affect you as much with high skill, but...*shrug*

To clear up the confusion:

You current skill level in relation to the difficulty of the item determines success.
The higher of Int, Wis, OR STR determines your skill up rate chances.
This was made so the "lesser minded" ogres and trolls could have a chance to gain skill faster using their strength.

This information current as of May 2002.

My smithing is 222 at the moment and I reach for 255 str when smithing.

Now, if the Tinkered Smithing Hammer could be put in the Secondary hand, and this in the Primary... that would be awesome! (Even better if this could be put in the Secondary Hand... it's not actually a weapon, after all.)
