I suspect you did the wrong combine. The pattern is:

Vested + Luminessence = Ordained
Vested + Incandessence = Tarnished
Balanced + Luminessence = Tarnished
Balanced + Incandessence = Tainted
Chaotic + Luminessence = Tainted
Chaotic + Incandessence = Inflicted

The good news is that you can use a Culling Vortex to reverse the combine and get both of your original ingredients back. I believe Luminescent Culling Vortex is used to remove Incandessence and Incandescent Culling Vortex is used to remove Luminessence, but someone will have to confirm for me.
