hmmm why are there two listings for ice silk sleeves one called ice burrower silk sleeves and one ice silk, I know both of these can't be crafted. Should be the Ice burrower one. So where is this from?

maybe you need to look at www.eqtraders.com you CAN tailor 2 kinds of ice silk one from teh silk droped in CC off the spiders and one with the silk drop off the ice borrowers in Western Waste( i think that is the zone). the Ice Burrowers are like level 55 plus and can kill you real easy unless your in a group

You are in error my friend. Ice Burrowers are in WW and are level 61, slow moving, high MR and DR, substantially high (but not as high) PR and normal to low or very low FR (guessing CR through the roof, never thought to try them). At level 61, it takes me an average of 7 attempts to snare with dooming darkness. For a druid, at that level it seems an average of 3 or 4 attempts (druid snares are harder to resist). Necro's scent of Terris cast at level 61 takes an average of 10 or so attempts to stick (very not worth it at 200 mana a pop) -- this is a disease based spell that debuffs FR, DR and PR by 39.

These drop "Ice Burrower Silk" - http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=11784 which combine to make Ice Silk Swatch and then the ice silk armor..

The spiders in CC are for another armor which takes substantially less skill to make. Thusly, you can start collecting this silk at around level 25 I believe. I sell the Ice Burrower Silks for 700 to 1k each. (not 100p as somebody mentioned)

Ice Burrower Armor is too expensive to be all that practical. The silk drops off level 60+ mobs. It requires a platinium thread (200 odd plat if I remember correctly) and a vial of purified mana (2 rubies at 150pp each).
So you are looking at a 500pp+ PER ATTEMPT. Most attempts fail. Rumor has it that success rates at this level are 1 in 20! 20x500=10,000pp for these puppies. That is just enough for the tradesman to break even, he would undoubtedly want some profit for doing all this work.
Now in the case of int sleeves i'll be worth it to someone, just not most of us.
I dont know the uber items in eq all that well, so if someone can give us examples of similar items and their risk to reward ratio, we could make a better judgement of the worth of this item.

Um, first of all, it's 4 rubies for purified mana, so the cost is more like 800pp an attempt. Second, they are never trivial, evne at 250 skill. Third, *nothing* is trivial in tailoring between 158 and 250, nothing at all. Average success for the average post-158 tailor is one in twenty, and that's the average skill increase too. So now how expensive do you think these things are?

500p attempt. so what? ever done jewelcraft or tinkering. If I could do tinkering for 500p/attempt past skill 150 I'd be very very happy..

Besides, those are pretty damned neat arms

Just for comparison: Jewelcraft starts costing about 100pp/attempt when going above skill 199 (cost is 99.75pp until 202). This is high-end gold jewelry (still uses merchant-buyable gems). After 202, it is cheaper to try platinum malachite instead of gold sapphire. a bar of plat costs 105pp, standard gems get up to 131.25pp in price. So high-end plat (not counting dropped gems) still costs less than 250pp/attempt. I don't know how the velium trivials stack up against velious tailoring trivials, but I imagine that it still would be cheaper to try making 8str/int (neck) or 8str/wis (face) pieces than ice burrower armor.

So, while jewelry making is still expensive, it is still much cheaper. There is also no huge gap in the trivials for many pieces. 5 points is a large gap for jewelry making.

Well try a little tinkering. I've put in about 450,000 plat and I'm at 163 skill. Gnomish Vanishing Device? You'll never see it for less than 20k unless someone's desperate. Clockwork Watchman armors? Heh riiight, made on commission only, and usually then for prices far and above those for the Kunark armors. The BP requires the above-mentioned GVD to make; GVD has about a 1/20 success rate and CWBP has about the same, you do the math.

You get the silk from Ice Burrowers in Western Wastes. They're level 60, and silk drops are pretty common.
Then you need to buy some platinum thread. That'll run you about 250pp or so.
Then you need to have a Tailor with a skill of 225+ to even have a hope at a success.

This armor is really nice, but not for the effort involved. You could easily get a full set of netted Kelp, which is better looking (ice Silk has no graphic) and much easier to get.

Ice Burrowers are level 61. They usually drop about 4 silks per kill.

I don't know if ice burrower silk is that common. I've soloed about 5 or 6 and I haven't seen one silk drop yet. (I did have a skin drop though in that many tries. /boogle)
