Think since last big patch this is not needed anymore for the VP key quest. There is a new one now for the VP key..not sure if this one will even work any longer. Am I right or wrong?
Still quite sought after on Al`Kabor where we have the old VP and only the old key quest as well

You're half-right. You can either complete the raid event + the old VP key quest (including this one), or complete the raid event + gather the three essences from Charasis, Chardok, and Sebilis.
I'd like to add something about those essences. I was following a couple of time-geared 65s into chardok so I could get to the Lorekeeper camp for Grand Tunic of the Oracle. They engaged the Essence of Chardok, I had druid cold resist buff on, the AE hit me for 2000 and then the mob smacked me once for 400. I'm glad my group had a cleric.
While camping the battlemaster we got alot of these staves from the reanimated berserkers and champions. They are in GY before the entrance to the royals. It wasnt a hard camp and they dropped often, compared to the other skeles on the way down to the bridges. These would be the quickest way to get them.

Got one to drop today off of A Reanimated Partisan at the bridge. Looks exactly the same as the conscript.

I just got one from a Reanimated Partisan too. He did NOT carry anything in his hand, and he did NOT crush me when he attacked. Only way to know whether he had one was to kill him and loot it.

Dropped off a Reanimated Conscript for me just at the bridge just inside the fort near zone
If you hunt a lot in Chardok (like most darkies 50+ on Tallon do) than you'll see plenty of these drop. They only sell for 3ppish to vendors, and weight 11. Therefor most people don't even bother to pick them up and let them rot. I've seen higher level lights though that wanted to buy them since it's very hard for them to hunt there. The price they pay for it really depends on person to person. Some will pay 50pp, some up to 500. You can't really put a price on a quest item, except maybe if it's really rare, which this isn't.

umm its for VP key, wtf cares how much its worth....save me the time it takes to wait for one to drop and I pay a k or more to get that part out of the way
Go to the Bazaar and you can usually find one for less than 100pp; that's not too much time to spend to avoiding paying 1k or more, hehe. Or just get from the source, again not too much time as this item is common as dirt. While I was camping the iksar betrayer for my epic down there about 4 of these dropped an hour, after a while we quit bothering to loot them.
LOL I totally agree. Time saved is worth 1k+ in my opinion. I have too much to do as it is.

This drops commonly off various sarnaks inside Chardok. It's also part of the quest for the Veeshan's Peak key.

Hehe, was wondering why a 2hb weapon worse that what you can get in Dalnir dropped in Chardok... well now I know, it's a quest item. Part of one of the subquests that eventually gets you a key to Veeshan's Peak. Guess I'll hold on to it (or go ahead and turn it in for the quest piece, or just sell it to someone who wants a VP key.)

Here is the little information I have heard about it, this is as yet unconfirmed.
Random drop in Chardok
Worth around 100pp in December 2000
I sold for 250pp and a Glowing Wooden Crook, which was an excellent deal for me since the staff was originally GIVEN to me by a high level pally. This puts the price at which I sold it ar around 300-350pp, NOT 7!
