I recommend not bothering with this item. At this point you will have at least one good item in your off hand. (Testament or Char Sheild)
Another problem is the random root effect. We often snare the mob so they turn to run and stop at low health (unless they are undead). If you are beating on the back of a snared giant with this weapon and this thing procs it is gonna turn on you.
I suppose there are some Ok tactics with this switching it out after you have fought for a bit with your damage shield on. Another could be to pull it out when you get rushed by a bunch of mobs and beat them with it as you try to escape.
If you are beating on a mob until the root procs and then back off and switch to WIS gear the mana is not going to be there for you.
If it is right-click or random all it would take is a simple post from someone who has it. Perhaps how and when they use it as well.
The non-hafling druid who can worship Tunare are lucky enough to have the Tunare (Warden, etc.) quest availible to them should do that and get the necklace that provides a right click ensnaring roots. Now that is a nice piece, no a near godly piece. Now that I think of it yes, its a god piece for Tunare.
Posted above in the info.. it says effect is unlimited yet random. Which means you have to melee for it to proc. :) The other pages that led me to this one.. many people have said it's a proc, the others drool and wish it were not a proc, but a right click, and only one person claimed it was a right click effect. Allakhazam is generally right when they say random effects are random. :) Just my thoughts on the matter, phat lewtz and thoughts of cash put aside. When and if I ever get one, I will let yoy know for sure. ;) And if you druids want a manaless root.. Tunare followers, both druid and cleric, get a spiffy warden symbol that casts a free root. It may be low level, it may have a lil longer casting time, but the important thing... it's *mana free*. =)
OMG whoever says this item isnt worth it come say it to my hammer, this would be sweet if shammy could use *drools*, i mean c'mon a free spell? especially root? c'mon, cant get much better.
the girth can sell as much as 15k not to mention that it would be awesome for almost any class. i mean ever class could us e a lil extra str. but anyway what would u want, a druid item that can cast rot, a low lvl spell u dont really need or and extra 15k in your pocket. BTW the only way this quest would b worth it is if the reward sold about 15k or more, which of course it doesnt because it sux.

well to a druid the items you turnin are rather useless, except if you need money.. so it would make sense to turn them in, except if you rather sell them... a great weapon if you are not twinked
Actually if it is a druid root, I would rather sell the Girth, as the druid's root is in fact the worst in the game, resisted more frequetly that others, and does not hold near as long. Only good thing about it is the fact that it does dmg when not resisted. I have a 35 pally and a 35 druid. When grouped with a druid I have to root with the pally, due to the fact that the druid will usually end up OOM just trying to root something.
The druid root is only bad because it has two resist checks. It does a resist check for the damage first. If it doesn't get resisted, then it does a resist check for the actual root. If that passes, then the spell sticks. Thats the only reason it gets resisted so much.
(Edit: Druid roots do last a while. The lvl 4 Grasping Roots only holds for 48 seconds max. Ensnaring Roots holds for about 1 minute and 28 seconds. Those times are no different from the non-druid roots casters get)
