#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 14 2001 at 12:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It says: war, pal, rng, shd, mnk, brd, rog. So, it is obviously not monk only dim wit. It is simply more valuable to them since they worry about weight.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 12 2001 at 10:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) what exactly makes this a monk item?

I think that any time people see a piece of armor, a weapon, or any other inventory item, that has a weight of less than 0.5, they say "Wow, this is a monk item" and "Holy cow, only monks should be able to roll for loot like this". Of course, this is utter BS. Most, if not all, of the items with posts like this are wonderful items for any melee class, and quite a few are good for priest classes as well, so anyone who could and would use items like this should be more than welcome to include themselves in the lotto rolls.

Ok, let me explain it slowly to you... This comes from Sleeper's Tomb. Sleepers Tomb is the zone where newbies don't go. At the level when people go there, their bracers will have higher armor class than this, or close. At the same time a monk of a sufficient level to go there, will have bracers with lower ac than this.
See, it's fairly simple, eh?

Ok, let me explain it slowly to you... Rangers and Rogues DO NOT have a large selection of 15+ ac bracers. Rangers also have a hard time getting SV magic. This is a nice bracer. Get off your needy monk trip and look around.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 13 2001 at 9:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) but can also be sold to lower lvl players who do not have that great AC yet so good for any melee
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 07 2001 at 9:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LOL lemme know what kinda of equipment you have when you get to sleepers...

It is still a nice monk item. Im not saying its a bad warrior item (I wish I had one) or a bad anything else item, but it would still rock if a monk had one of these.
Great Item
# Feb 12 2001 at 11:00 PM Rating: Default
Monks got the shaft in kurnak with no class specific armor. Veilous gave us lots of nifty toys and armory. Idealy this has to be for a monk, there are better ac bracers out there for every other class, and unless you have broke 1300ac you do not need to go down for stat saves. Great for all classes, but used by a monk.

Maybe it is just me but i haven't seen anything better than that for a bard :) Just my two cents :)
Why monks are lame...
# Feb 13 2001 at 12:31 AM Rating: Default
Why monks are lame isnt because of the class, but rather because everytime a decent low weight item comes up they instantly call out "MONK ITEM MONK ITEM!" wtf is up with that anyway?? yeah its a good monk item, but its a good everyother class item as well.... Velious has lots of new items that are not "monk items" they are items that appeal to a broader span of classes and races, that is how the velious items and loot were desinged, to be for lots of people, if an item is a monk item its because it says only "MNK" next to the "Class:".

Well, one of the reasons that monks get excited about good armor gear is that Kunark had pretty much crap for us in that regard. Every melee/hybrid got high AC, casting armor and monks got...Crescent. Go look up the stats on crescent if you don't want to take my word that it's completely underwhleming. Add to that that monks tend to only wear 1 or 2 pieces of our planar armor (Shiverback) because common drops in Guk are better. Now maybe you understand why we get excited when a good, low weight item that we can use becomes available. Also, no other class has to deal with the weight restriction a monk has. In case you're not aware of it, if we exceed the limit (14 from 1-54, 18 from 55-59, 22 at 60) we start losing AC rapidly for each pound over the limit. We can typically wear 1 or 2 heavy items, but that's it.

The myth about monk AC dates back to pre-Kunark days, when monks did have higher AC than a warrior, based mostly on skill caps. This is no longer true once you get past level 50. I'm a fairly well eqiupped, 57th level monk and can max out my unbuffed AC at about 1015-1020. A warrior my level with equivalent equipment (in terms of difficulty to get) beat my unbuffed AC by about 50 pts, and my unbuffed hp by over 1000. A rogue my level has about equivalent AC and hp.

So yes, this is a great bracer for melee classes. But hopefully now you understand better why monks get pretty excited about things like this.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 12 2001 at 10:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yeah, i understand WHY you want it. it's the same reason i want it, who doesn't want a low weight item, with kick *** stats and good ac? just don't go getting pissed when i roll on this item. (which has happened to me in the past, mind you) a monk in my group sees an item we get off a mob that is weighs under 1lb and thinks he should automatically get it and when a warrior like me rolled, he got all pissed, took the item and disbanded. some monks can be real ********.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 13 2001 at 12:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You are lame because you are a whiner.

At the level at which the item is attainable, it's a monk item, period.

Gotta laugh at the idea of lottos in sleeper's... people who get to sleeper's don't use lottos. This isn't Old Sebilis folks. No looking for a pick up group in ST. :p

You know, I don't recall the person that made that first post saying "Wow, great monk item, this sucks for every other class, this is only great for monks"... they were simply stating their opinion on how this is a great monk bracer, which it is. It would also be a great bracer for all the other classes that can equip it assuming they do not have better. Don't bash the monks just because they get excited because there's a high ac/low weight/great stat bracer out there.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 13 2001 at 10:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sorry but for alot of classes AC 15 Bracers are Awesome.

Obviously you 2 morons havent played a monk before. Most of the eq a monk has at 60 is all/all equipment where warriors and other classes have their own class specific armor which we didnt get....which is way higher ac. And to the last poster, show me a warrior and a monk with equivalent equipment for lvl 60 and the warriors ac will > the monks by a long shot. Before you make stupid posts like this get a clue first on what you are talking about.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 25 2001 at 6:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I love the people that come to thread like this and rip on monks, then will be out twinking one of their own the next week. Guilds capable of raiding in ST are going to KNOW this is the best a monk can get, which is the reason monks will get special consideration for this item. Newsflash here people, Kael quest chest piece for monks? 21ac if I recall. Kael BP for a warrior? 59. Kael legs for a warrior? 37 if I remember correctly. Monks have 11ac (I have them) Come on people, learn a little more about the classes that you play with before you rip into monks who are excited about stuff like this. 9.5 out of 10 people reading this won't ever see it anyway. As reference .. 55 monk here with 2 5ac .. yep FIVE ac bracers. Trying to get as much hp as I can (12sta between the 2 bracers). THX
#Anonymous, Posted: May 07 2001 at 10:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You guys have all missed the freaking point.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 09 2001 at 5:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Playing a monk, I want AC because: when I go into some evil place to get your corpse, when I fail feign death, it's nice to not just flat die. When there are 4 reds on you and you are by yourself because the rest of the group(s) are at the zone, all you have is feign, mend and a little bit of crappy armor. So next time you go blasting monks, get your own stinkin' corpse...
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 9:05 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well actually show me a better bracer for a rogue or a ranger ... hell id even use that bracer over my shinning one ... in the top end game everyone must agree that resists play a BIG role ... and trust me id GLADLY drop 6 Ac for 10 to all resists. Besides Ac well though important for hybrids isnt SO important as for Warrs because we arent supposed to tank on the big mobs ... we bring warriors with us for that. In those cases this bracer would be the ideal choice ... and if the hybrid ends up being colbbered then someone isnt doing his job right. Still is the best monk bracer around.

Guys, chill. It seems that everyone is just ******** about something that has no meaning. Unless you are in a guild that has a prayer of getting one of this items you should just leave well enough alone. There is no point in getting on a flame war over something that most of us will probably never see, much less get. I myself have two high level characters, but don’t play enough to qualify for one of the big time guilds so I will probably never see one. I’m sure that the same can be said for most of the people here. I do know however that those guilds (like Fires Of Heaven or Celestial Tomb) have a very specific way of awarding loot that has nothing to do with what someone wants. It has to do with Who needs it the most, not who likes it. so, if the rogue needs it the most, then he gets it or the monk or whatever. The point is, that you do not get into fights over loot in those guilds, they do this stuff all the time and if more then one person needs it, then they just farm the place until they are all satisfied (If you don’t believe me, take a look at the equipment on any member of those guilds, is a eye opener). For the most part, this guilds are not about loot so much as doing really interesting stuff. They go kill high level creatures just for the fun of it, and the loot is pretty much secondary because they already have so much kick-*** stuff.
