ancient tarnished
# Sep 13 2002 at 10:59 PM Rating: Decent
I got the ancient tarnished
plate gauntlets last night in NToV off a ancient guardian wurm or something.
I am keeping my Thurgadin faction but dishing the CoV faction for now to get my Kael faction up to do the quest. Either that or I don't /q on the next Dain raid.

Where do the Tarnished gaunts drop? Would like to know who drops them too, if the info available. Thanks.

So, as paladins, you will willingly kill members of the race that holds the oldest known sect of paladins on Norrath? And for what?

I can't wait to meet you people in Horizons and watch you all blow your factions there for powerful items and end up getting run out of the game by your own dieties.

Paladins don't kill paladins.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 05 2001 at 11:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These gaunt are SOOOO much better then deep water its not even arguable. So to the dumbass that said cancle magic is a life saver. You are either kinding or you are a total **** nut dip ****.

Why Coldain? I'll tell you...
# Feb 13 2001 at 10:35 AM Rating: Excellent
If you're an Enchanter, only the Coldain sell Velium Bars and the Enchant Velium spell.

Only the Coldain have a Paladin trainer in Velious.

Only the Coldain have a fully developed city with merchants for everything... including Shaman's potion supplies.

Only the Coldain have the Velium Temper for forging Velium.

Only the Coldain have the silver, gold and platnum thread for the new Tailoring stuff.

If you want to lock yourself out of these advantages, go ahead.

Oh yeah, one last thing... Mama Tunare and the Giants are enemies. The PoG quests for Tunare followers almost always require killing giants.

P.S. I'd still use the Deepwater Gauntlets over these... Cancel Magic can be a real life-saver.

No question in my mind its to the advantage of the Paladins to go giant.

"Only the Coldain have a Paladin trainer in Velious"
--True? Maybe, but if you're high enough level paladin to be worrying about which faction route to take you've long since stopped going to your trainer.

"I'd still use Deepwater Gauntlets over these... Cancel Magic can be a real life-saver."
-- Sure can, that's why I keep them in my bag still.

"Mamma Tunare ... [bla bla bla] killing giants"
--PoG is a waste of time for Paladins. Sure maybe there's a sword quest and possibly a few other things there. Joy for the paladins who follow Tunare, but its just as easy to get better swords elsewhere than from the tree hugging tart in PoG

Not to mention paladins don't have invis and it's a PITA to waste time and money using invis potions to go through Kael. Its much more convenient to stroll through at your leisure.

Do what you will. I regret nothing.

i to aggree anyone, almost every class should pick giants over coldain. if you ever need anything from the city just make a tweak.

one thing i have to ask DOES the kael armor quest loot drop off of coldains or in veeshans temple, or both?

PLEASE post

Armor quests work like this:

Thurgadin quests - items from Kael
Kael quests - items from Temple of Veeshan
Skyshrine quests - items from Temple of Veeshan (different area - not sure of this)

My suggestion is if you're a small guild / unquilded player to go the Thurgadin way, you can get armor with 6-12 people in Kael. ToV is hard.

Ive seen a tarnished helm and gloves drop in kael in the area around the arena, (not in the arena, we got killed). Ive also seen the druid gloves drop there as well. So far it seems like any 54+ mob can drop them there, though ive spent over 12 hours in that area and only seen 3 of these items drop.

You must have confused this Ancient Tarnished armor with something else. It drops only in Temple of Veeshan.
Dwarves Vs Giants
# Feb 13 2001 at 12:44 AM Rating: Default
The only difference beteween the Thurgadin and Kael Drakkal versions of these guantlets is that Kael version has 2 more AC! Woopty Doo Da! Mess up my faction for 2 AC! I don't think so!
RE: Dwarves Vs Giants
# Jun 01 2002 at 9:03 PM Rating: Decent
actually 2ac per piece does add up but look at the other stats. the best way to do it is add up all the stats for all the pieces AC, wis, saves, etc. then compare the overall finished stats. i did this and found SS armor to be better, maybe alot lower ac but in th ehigh end game arent saves what matters? sure ac is nice but if you are raiding ToV or temple a paladin is not going to be MA. just add them up and pick which one you want.
RE: Dwarves Vs Giants
# Mar 04 2001 at 3:24 AM Rating: Default
Well, from what I've seen, all the Kael armor has about 2 ac better than it's Thurgadin counterpart. Now, on a single piece, 2 ac may not make a huge differance, but if you have a whole suit...ahhh. Helm, BP, Vambs, Gunts, Greaves, and Boots...5 pieces with 2 ac more could mean as much as 20 more ac in the end. If you ever meet a tank who wouldn't like to have another AC, you have just met a stupid tank =)

2 AC more on an otherwise identicle item is very important. I'm glad I saw these, becuase I was previously considering Giants as my main faction in Velious, but now these clinched the deal.

Oh ***** the Coldain ..... worthles little munchkins ........
RE: Dwarves Vs Giants
# Feb 13 2001 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
Mess up your faction? Its not like Coldain are the dominate race in Vellious, I like Giants a hell of a lot better than those little shorties. Also 2 or 3 ac does make a big difference in an item, you obviously dont know the importance of AC in armor, stats dont really make very much differnce for tank classes, its all in the AC
RE: Dwarves Vs Giants
# Feb 13 2001 at 10:43 AM Rating: Default
Yeah but who says the other giant quests have more ac than the dwarf ones? just cause the gloves have more ac dosnt mean the rest do
RE: Dwarves Vs Giants
# Feb 13 2001 at 4:56 AM Rating: Default
Yes 2 AC on tjhe item can mean 4 or 5 or maybe more not sure about high lvls AC to your character depending on his dex as well and that is a good ruduction to the amount of dmg taken and how often hit

Hmm...

What was the outcome of that again?

And I don't consider Coldain as Dwarves... most Dwarves i've met are nice folks and fierce fighters. This scumbag lot of Coldain that pests the Velious and habitates King Thormax's hunting ground without an invitation should be totally wiped out by any means possible. Even the honorable Dwarves would be pleased to get rid of this exiled group of misfits. I have been wondering why the skin around their eyes is so dark... According to medical information that is causd by severe head trauma and brain injury. This would also explain why they dont know better to not to have ever made this fatal mistake of stepping on King Thormax's toes.

LONG LIVE THE KING!

PS Tips on how to skinn the coldains more efficiently are welcome... im having trouble separating their heads.... the beard gets in the way.
