Flare is the stupidest spell let alone an effect. If you want to see some lights buy some fireworks from us gnomes.

/jk HAHA is right...flare is not good for anything really....but hey it looks kinda cool. The only thing i've used flare for is giving my loc to someone that is near me (the see the ball of light fly by) it is useful for that reason and nothing else really except for n00bs to make themselves look cool...or at least that's what i did =P

and its an OK weapon too...Mages can summon them at 8 i belive and its good if they need a quick weapon on a CR. THe dmg/dly is below average and i'm gonna work on my 1hblunt anyway so ill just pop one out every time i log in =P they'd be good for pets too cause using rusty ones is kinda a waste of the profit you could get off em\

Not sure it is worth giving it to the pet. Pets hit at twice the weapon damage so the pet will be limited to just 14 per hit. A level 8 pet can do more than 14 damage with its bare hands.
It is still useful for building up your 2h skill without lugging a heavy staff around with you everywhere. If you are High Elf mage you need 2h skill at level 8 because you get a staff from the newbie quest will give you a few levels later (though many people dont bother as it is not that good a weapon)

flare is useless, because if you are a mage instead of using that spell , you can use flame bolt or something like that and you kill something maybe gain xp , and send a loc to friends if your lost.
