3k is ridiculous nowadays, It hardly ever goes for over 800 now adays, and its fairly easy to get one for 500 cause so many people delete their pallies
Call me lucky...?

Ok...I was hanging out in tunnel in EC hoping to find a good deal on a new 1HS and there's nearly five ghoulbanes up for sale on the auction chat. The prices rage from 800pp to 500pp and others player start commentating on all the ghoulbanes for sale. I notice one fellow start dropping his price on a ghoulbane dramatically and I can smell his desperation to sell when he offers for 200pp. I quickly send him tell and offer 130pp and he accepts right away without complaint...obviously someone desperate for some extra plat. My head was nearly spinning from the realization I just obtained ghoulbane for 130pp.

So here I am now...an 8th lvl pally with ghoulbane and kicking butt. I gain three levels that same day with my wonderful new blade and look forward to taking the trip to Unrest at 20th where I plan to teach ghouls how to suck eggs.

Now that I have mine...I hope Verant makes it No Drop...for I have no wish to see others with as fine a blade as mine...for my level of course...)

Peace out.
Well..

You say you're lucky to get 600 for it.. And last week I saw the thing go for 3k in EC.. Patience is all it takes.

Can anyone tell me if the price quoted here, (1,039pp) represents the current going price since this item became a quest item?

no way, dropped seriously since quest.

sold mine in NFP for 650 and was happy about it.

dont expect more than 600pp though.

What if you hail the first NPC and he doesn't say anything? Is there another way to get him to talk? Like raise faction? Or does he only talk to Paladins now? Thanks

had the same prob. he casted a spell, and didnt say nothing.

try it again some seconds later, make sure u have him as target and that u are standing very close to him.

I got my Ghoulbane at lvl 13 . I bought it from a fellow pally for 800pp . Now I am lvl 22 and hunt in High Keep so i don't really use it much
. I use my Sword of Skyfire that also kicks some butt . I really want to try my ghoulbane in Unrest or other undead spots .

# Jun 13 2001 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
Im at lvl 18 and plan on starting the quest after i hit 20 just by buying the drops off the other players. This seems like it is going to be come a extreamly common item. It will be the standard paladin item after reaching level 12. What is this going to do to game play? Is Varient going to make certain mobs harder? Having this sword will make killing undead almost too easy.

The items you need are all No Drop so people won't be able to buy the parts they need for the quest but I agree that there will be more Ghoulbanes out there for a reasonable price which I personally think is great. I hate trying to fight mobs that con well under me in strength but still shred me, maybe this will even the balance a bit, at least when they are fighting undead which they were supposed to excel at anyway. I just completed the quest and thought it was excellent! Good job Verant!
Economics of a quest
# Jun 13 2001 at 3:54 PM Rating: Decent
I'm curious as to two things:
1) Does the ghoulbane still drop fron the Shin Lord?
and
2) What are the economics of questing versus camping a rare spawn?

I cannot answer the first, but as to the second, I have my opinions. One rare spawn dropping perhaps 2-3 ghoulbanes per day, versus many different spawns each of which drops the necessary item on average 30-40 times per day. I know I've destroyed several opportunities at another ghoulbane being created by destroying the blade on the gobs in BB, and several I didn't destroy have sat unused and the corpse deteriorated before anyone picked it up. Yet, it seems every time someone comes through looking for it they get it within 2-3 hours, no matter how many people there are looking for it. Even if they are too low level to kill the mobs. The new gobs in BB are great XP and cash for a group of 25-35, and one of the safest camps I've seen at that level. I stayed there four days and went from level 29 to level 32, making about 1k plat in the process, and giving away blades left and right.

Then someone had the audacity to comment that the price on ghoulbane would go up because it was a quest instead of a drop.

I couldn't understand his reasoning, can anyone else shed some light on this? I assumed that more ghoulbanes meant lower prices because of a higher supply and a lower demand.

if not all the items and the sword itself werent LORE, id be rich by now. id have looted three of each kind on every location and would have sold three GBs for 600 each.

but since it actually IS LORE, u have to do the quest from start to beginnig every time, which CAN be annoying.

but i think this is the purpose of a quest...

This GB quest really reflects player's true charactor quite easily. Before you start, just think about one thing -- Ghoulbane belongs to warm hearted holy warrior.

It's a nice sword. Get it if you think you deserve it.

In my experience, there are hordes of people who should not even be ALLOWED to buy this game, much less play it -- and as for playing a paladin character, I haven't met ONE who actually roleplayed it well. So, if all you can do is make threats and challenge people to duels, go back to tying firecrackers to animals and leave EQ for civilized people. Have a nice day.

The way to stop farming of this weapon: DON'T BE THE FOOL TO PURCHASE THIS WEAPON. I was walking through EC today and ask for a price check on Ghoulbane after seeing four advertised. Three ppl shouted 1,000pp. I said "LOL funny that Ghoulbane is now a quest item. Easy to get..full group of 20ish ppl. Good Luck!"

No one advertised Ghoulbane for at least 30 mins. This weapon will be worth 200pp in just a few weeks, if that much.

Only two types of ppl purchase this weapon now:
1] Suckers who don't know any better
2] Lazy ppl, sometimes twinkers, who have too much plat laying around...usually an alt char.

So..if you want to do your part to stop farming this weapon, don't buy it and tell EVERY paladin you know how easy it is to get.

As for "pallies blow" quote, I guess that only shows how little you know about anything in everquest. Each char. class has unique abilities. It seems you tried a pally before, but just could not handle playing a char. which requires a bit more ..say...moxie to play.

Just as a skillful druid is a wonder to see in motion, so is a skillful paladin..or any class for that matter.

Take Care.

"So..if you want to do your part to stop farming this weapon, don't buy it and tell EVERY paladin you know how easy it is to get."

did you say "easy"? a quest that requires you to travel from the Karanas to Unrest - back an forth - is anything else than easy. It's a major pain in the butt for a paladin.
Without the help of a druid or wizard the running around trough many and big zones, waiting for boats and traveling on boats is just and plain ... baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
It's not impossible, but the huge amout of time you spend on dull traveling - let the druids go and farm it and they will see how fast the easy 1k plat they got for it will go down to 500pp or less.
I don't mind price drops, as i don't farm stuff - and i don't mind selling stuff that served me well for a long time for little money.

"Only two types of ppl purchase this weapon now:
1] Suckers who don't know any better
2] Lazy ppl, sometimes twinkers, who have too much plat laying around...usually an alt char."

plain BS - i will still more likely buy it - but i'm not gonna pay 1cp more than 300pp. - it will drop that low :o)
3] People who think Verant's Quest designers have no idea about their own game and think making a dull and time-consuming quest is the same as making a challenging and interesting quest that is appropriate for the specific class

and .. sorry Verant, but all those "Travel" quests are not very paladin like. I have a whole bag full of quest related stuff in the bank just because the place i would have to go to continue the quest is some thousand miles away and i would have to pay 100s in plat to port there, beg for binds etc. just to do that ONE quest. (or spend hours of running and still have to beg for a bind, so i dont have to run that hours again.. and then back.. beg for another bind .. etc.)
Quest too easy
# Jun 07 2001 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is too easy if you ask me. I am a pally and did it at lvl 27 solo. I didnt kill all the mobs solo but was easy to find partner/group at each Mob camp. Didnt even have to kill any mobs in Highpass. Was already a dead Gob with the scroll on the floor that the group let me loot. If you can TP you could realistically do it in a couple hours. I've got 3 of 4 items needed to complete it again and I wasnt really even trying to get them. Got hilt in Najena the first time so made GB there and started trying it out on the skellies and another dropped again right away, then decided unrest was the palce to hunt now that I had my GB and got a heart right away. Got tired of the Trains so I went to hunt in a group at the new gob camp in BB and there were plenty of blades to go around for all so now I suppose I might as well go get another scroll and do the NPC part and give my GB to a guildmate and make myself a new one. I'll be shocked if the price doesnt drop to 200pp or less real fast cause there are tons of these things being made daily.
love it

i got my ghoulbane today! yipeeee! I paid a bit more than the price posted here...i paid 1kpp a pair of filth covered boots and a chipped velium amulet for this(about 1.5k worth of stuff) I am an Erudite palidan and I love this weapon! Im 19 right now and I am tearing up the warrens(woot I can actualy solo some of the single spawns! lol) i have a BABS and i get about the same dmg with this! at 20 im running over to Unrest, where I will murder those undead! Also with a dex of 89 this has tried to proc around 1 time per battle(sometimes 2) but my advice is to try to get some dex gear to have on hand when fighting undead(sorta like having a +7MR bracer on hand on Tallon Zek... you might have to sacrifice some ac, but you'll be hitting for 160+dmg more!) Altogether I think the GB was worth every copper!
Good Luck on getting your own!

Rayvon: I really don't know why you guys think the camp is so bad because 1) Its only 17min spawn. 2) Mutant,Warden, and Squire is near there. 3) Ghoulbane isn't THAT rare. I've gotten like sit Ghoulbane so far, three in a row from three streight spawn of lord (had to ask guildy to make troll alt to hold it for me). That reminds me, I remember Ghoulbane is LORE so change the stats. BTW there is room before Shin Lords room, there is always one frog in it, most of the time its Shin Warrior, kill it. If your Magi summon pet and make pet guard there. Target Shin Lord and Malisement and run into that room with pet. At lvl 47 (I've started Ghoulbane hunting from llike 40) only Shin Lord will come after you. Lvl 44 pet can easly solo Shin Lord, if you want the fight to be over fast just nuke it once.
Zeqtor: I LOVE the Ghoulbane! My first opponent was Dwarf Skeleton! At lvl 1! I soloed it (well...Skin Like Nature was on :P)! Right now Im lvl 8 and the damage cap only lets me hit for 21 but I'm soo exsited to hit 20, than if my weapon proc, I can out damage a wizard (for couple level at least)! I'm now stuck debating if I want to take Arbitor's Combined Sword over Ghoulbane. I do like the ratio and boost and ability to bash with the Arbitor's, but Ghoulbane makes me feel like true holy Paladin!

# Jun 08 2001 at 1:43 AM Rating: Default
If Ghoulbane were no drop I would never have one.

I've tried before to get into a group camping for it. After waiting for hours and hours on several days I gave up. I don't have uber friends that will just zip in and kill everything in the zone for me, and I'm not a "power gamer" so I don't have 1k+ just lying about to buy one.

I did this quest in bits over the past 3 days. It took forever for the hilt to drop, the other items needed I got in 2 hours or less. And now I have one! I finally have 1hs that's worth using. I haven't used my 1h since 31 'cause all I had was a pgt which does diddly for damage.

I am very glad they added a quest for gb. Not only do I have a great weapon I'd have no chance of having otherwise, those annoying "farmers" will be making their own nooses - saturating the market til the price comes way down. Once that happens, there's no point farming. And Paladins can honorably come by a great weapon.

If Ghoulbane was NO DROP:

I wouldn't have had to argue with a wizard and his two underlings that was farming the drop from the goblin in Highkeep;

I wouldn't have had to wait for the druid, with is paladin friend, that also wanted the drop in Najena;

I wouldn't have had to wait for the 39th level ranger that wanted a Ghoulbane for his 10th level paladin in Butcherblock.

And, hopefully, I might not have had to wait for the paladin in Unrest that already had Soulfire but wanted to give a Ghoulbane to someone in her guild.

For all these reasons, for all the moron farmers that stop us real paladins from completing our weapon quest, for all these reasons it should be NO DROP. Period.

By the way, if there's a problem with getting the Fiery Avenger, that could be changed when Ghoulbane is made NO DROP. That doesn't take a MENSA member to figure out and could be done at the same time. Just because two things need to be changed instead of one is no reason to make no changes at all.

Will you stop whining? it's people like you that ruin it for the rest of us. Take a look at the page dropped for the testament of vaneer, it's nodrop and theres always a LINE waiting to camp it, if it wasn't nodrop you could buy it and be done with it, no lines=P if the ghoulbane was nodropo you would still have wizzies and druids and rangers getting the item for a friend, even myself i have an 11 paly friend that i'm helping do this quest, all you have to do is camp the tiem, when it drops clear the way and let the paly loot. Making the item nodrop would just make it harder for people that don't(or can't) spend hours trying to get an item=P

Yeah, but thats partially because new.

I went into najena no one was there, killed skeleton got the drop, first one. Went into unrest, killed a couple.. asked if anyone saw the heart and the only two people around said one on a corpse, got that and thanked them.

Went to butcher and it was pretty late at night finally when no one camping it and it DID take a long time.. like hour and half. Went to high hold and ditto.. like over an hour plus (only group there doing goblins that late said several rotted earlier, they were going to tell me but I got one just before they did)

so all total was like 3 hours. I don't know how camping the shin lord is.. but I think it might take more than 3 hours to get a ghoulbane.

I think very few items should be no drop, its a band-aid solution to a whole different problem. The real problem is static mobs and loot. With everything anyone would ever camp being no drop, you end up with economy and trade problems.

Sticking this quest in just helps there to be more ghoulbanes so more people get them, the price drops, a bottleneck is cleared slightly. That is not a bad thing.

After completing this quest after about 3 hours, during which I was not keeping anyone else from doing it, I much prefer doing the quest to camping the ghoulbane to sell or whatever. So I see this as a good thing. Its an alternative for campers and paladins alike.

They have already done this in some new areas like kael. In kael you can quest for the mask of war, a great item, but you can also loot it off giants instead you kill in kael. Many things there are like that and all are rare off virtually any giant. Thats a much better way to do things than static mobs with static loot or no-drop as a way to fix a completely different problem.

So, what you're saying is we either pay for it, which is simply paying someone else to murder a paladin; or go without, meaning we do without all the great paladin epic weapons. That is a truly insipid thing to say.

"Deal with it" is a pathetic excuse for an answer. If everyone had followed your advice, Verant would not have added the great new Ghoulbane quest, so now people no longer need to murder a paladin to get Ghoulbane. Thanks to people pointing out the illogic of a paladin attacking a paladin just to get their first great class weapon, Verant fixed the problem.

If you have nothing productive to submit, keep your "deal with it" replies to yourself.

Apologies for the rant, but replies like this one annoying the heck out of me.

This is true, except EQ is so based on whose Gear is better that quite often certain items are viewed as must-have for certain classes. This is one such item. I don't like it either though, and I've always felt there should be more than one way to gain a certain item, even if one is way harder than the other. I expected that any quest for this sword would be much harder but it seems to be even easier than camping it. /shrug

This quest is a piece of cake if you have a druid above 34th level to help. Can easily be done in like 5 hours. Less if you are lucky with the drops. The thing is since it is easy this will become the twinkers sword of choice for a paladin.

I am one of those farmers you talked about but I do not r8pe people on the price. In fact for a 20th level to buy one from a 35th level for 1k some find worth it. In fact alot find worth it because they dont have a good 34th level buddy to help do the quest and on top of it they would get r8ped trying to kill these mobs with out some help. As more and more of the swords enter the market less people will pay good money for then so people like myself are using these early days to be proactive and earn some money to put toward the 18k or so I need to work up jewelcraft.

This quest by the way is hard to call a farmers quest if you are truely out to do the quest then you will not be camping one spot more then an hour unless you are makeing multiple GB's as partners.

In a way I have always wondered why as I did the quest and it was so easy that they did not make it nodrop. As for a pala needing this for his epic by the time he gets to the point if he really thinks he is going to get it he will be guilded and have lots of help all he would need to get this is a druid to help. Piece of cake.

Now that I have twinked my palay with GB and CMMS they can make it nodrop. Well I would like to sell the one I have and the one I have stored in the bag waiting to combine before that hehe. But if that didnt happen easy come easy go. SMILE
