These things appear to be fairly common, I have gotten 3 of them after only killing maybe 20 of the crusties.

You were lucky, I have done WAY over 20 and not seen any. All I get are pages and (from what I can see) worthless claws and things. They are not very common at all. I have gone hunting this 4 times now, killing atleast 10 to 20 a go!
