This item drops off of Salczek the Fleshgrinder, the first mini boss that's a necessary kill on your way up Saryrn's Tower. He's a pretty easy fight. Your biggest problem getting this flute is that it's incredibly rare from what I've seen. My advice would be getting yourself a Saryn Tower key personally. That way you get yourself a rapier of curses with the singing mod (assuming that's still an upgrade) and you'll be in demand for doing Saryrn raids. It's an annoying quest but being proactive is the best way to get those rare drops.
As a rule, wind instruments aren't the most valuable of bard instruments and the multiplier on one isn't super critical -- I mean, it can't make you MORE invisible with the level 19 Invis song. But the real value of this item is with the LOY songs that remove poison and disease counters and also the one the removes curse counters. They are wind based and this flute with a 2.8 modifier blows away a lot of counters every 3 seconds. Comes in quite handy.
It never fails to surprise me how little people know of their bard character class. Yes it works on 19 invis, yes it's nice for curse and poison/disease cure....you ever take into account that wind has a very important role for us....say maybe MEZ! How about charm? Or maybe you were just one of those bards that never charm kited, swarmed or just ******* cuz you got resists too much. How about your lull line of songs....WIND. Naw that's right bards make bad pullers what with our NON Line of sight pacifications and fading memories aa....How about your faction song? Maybe that useless song that reduces your place on the hate list of a target? Here's another completely useless wind song, Kazumi's Note of Preservation, yeah invulnerability suxx ***. Oh wait I got a great useless song that would never benefit from having a mod so it will get resisted more. Song of Highsun. Yeah...who would ever want to GATE a mob back to it's spawn point? I mean, COME ON! What use could that possibly have roflmao. You're like those wizards out there that wonder why they need to get Spell: Concussion or the countless clerics I've met that think Spell: Remove Greater Curse is a waste of money....a source of endless comedy for real players. Thanks for the laughs =D
Actually, you're both correct. The most useful purpose for it in end game is for our Arias. Lull at level 8 is stringed, level 61 it is singing. As for mez, mezes from level 28 to....maybe the 57 one I think have a built in MR debuff, making it easier to land the mez. Wind DOES affect this debuff, so a flute makes it easier to land mezes on these songs. The higher level mezes do not have any MR debuff built it, and so for end game mezes, wind does not affect mez at all.
oh, and forgot about charm, level 27 and 39 charms also have a built in MR debuff as well, allowing it to land more reliably and possibly last longer, and this is of course affected with a flute. the 64 and 70 charms have no debuff component. I guess the point is that by the time you get this flute, it's usefulness for charm and mez are outdated.
Great flute. Got mine last night on way up to Saryn. The info is correct, but the picture is wrong. The flute definately is Primary/Secondary and can be wielded with a weapon.
