An untargetable Mob picking off group members thru the wall of a cave brings an example to mind. Memming gate and waiting for it to charge was a very long few seconds watching the healer and melee drop around me. If I'da had this, one click and goodbye. And if you're the type of person who keeps gate occupying a slot at all times, I hope we never meet. 8P

What isnt listed yet is the cast time, if its instant, i can see a great use for those 2 charges.

Sucks there is only 2 charges, but is has 2 advantages I can think of. The pic is a broken link it seems, but what you can't see until they fix it is that the casting time is 1.0 instead of the 5.0 of the spell. Kind of a save your butt feature. Also, since they refuse to let us memorize more than 8 spells at a time, you don't always have gate memmed when your butt needs saving.

I seriously doubt you can recharge it, since it's a drop not a quest, but you never know.

I know people use Class Six mana batteries to recharge items occasioanlly, or is that only for tinkering?

That's Tinkering only, or "supposed" to be.
There have been over time various ways to recharge items (non-tinkered), some standing ones eventualy ruled illegitimate, some legitimate, some added (the rez staff, and Mystic Cloak come to mind as a couple of examples), most today seem unable to be recharged however.
