dream weapon
# Sep 03 2005 at 6:57 PM Rating: Decent
ever since i saw this weapons a few years back its been a dream weapon of mine even though i have better and could get better.. still want this - just like if your dream was to one day **** pamela anderson, and you ****** jenna haze or somone better because its not what you have "dreamed / wanted so much for" if that makes sense.
Ranger Weapon? You bet it is!!
# Jun 30 2005 at 1:10 PM Rating: Decent
I have this sword and it has become my primary. As a secondary I have Sword of Midwinter's Vengeanceand at 67 in groups or raids my bow, Ensnare and Flame Lick produces more agro. Like one of the posts above I haven't even memorized Jolt in 12 ir more levels. This sword procs often and the combo really adds to my stats, and keeps my DPS up there when I do have to melee /shudder.

Everyone talks good theory however in practice, this does make a good tank weapon, I know as I have one.

All the classes that can use can benefit from this weapon. Almost every thread after an item on here involves some long drawn out and may I say pointless discussion about who should get it and who shouldnt. All weapons can provide what you need from them, as long as you use them intelligently.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that you always hear people saying that rangers shouldn't get weapons like this that have DD procs on them. So in that case, using this weapon intelligently would mean jolting as to not take aggro and die...

Because Rangers NEVER solo or anything...

(If you aren't laughing, either you missed the sarcasm, or have never played a Ranger)

Furthermore, the weapon is pretty nice for its stats alone, and when you're sitting back at 400 yards, lobbing in arrows as fast as you can /autofire (which most Rangers do at the higher levels, especially on raids), the damage/delay doesn't make a difference, and neither does the proc.

For soloing, what the hell does agro matter, anyway, as long as it's just one target?

I have to laugh at everyone saying this will be great for such and such class. Basically any of these items are great. They have lots of stats hit for a lot of damage and are cool looking.

When you are in a raid force, you never know when it is going to be your turn to get an item. Also there are like 20 other people who want this item as well. It an item is a major upgrade for you, you put in your 2 cents and hopefully your the one to get the item.

Amazing weapon. Very refreshing graphic too.

As an encounter Agnarr himself is weak.
Its his preceeding Generals who are difficult.
If you can beat the second isle. You've won yourself loot in another 10-15 minutes max.

Sword seems to be a 1 in 2 drop.

I personally don't know a bard who would want this over a weapon that doubled as an instrument.(ie epic, Troubador's mace, Battle Drummer's Main Gauche etc)

90% of the Bards i know stick to the epic / Thunderous Drums of Karana combo. Smiley: twocents

Just my opinion though, could be wrong.

Drum of karana is an instrument. If you are not on HoS or ae resist there is quite no need of high percussion.

so this swords fits well with the epic off hand.

Funny, as a 65 ranger with 100+ aa, I not only find myself meleeing alot due to raid positioning, but also find myself NEVER getting aggro, without the usage of jolt. Matter of fact, I can honestly say I havent memmed jolt in over 10 lvls. Aggro isn't about spells, it's about paying attention to what your doing, and compensating for changes as needed.

This weapon is INSANE for any class that can use it, and should be awarded on merit and guild needs, for whatever class.

ya know something i have been reading is that this is great for a ranger not good for a warrior b/c it dosent hold agro well. everyone keeps saying warriors go get you a eb or tb weap well i have both of them. in a raid or reg xp group im not always the MT now do you think im going to be useing a EB or TB during a raid or xp group when im not MT? ping ponging mobs only gets other killed. this weap would be good for a war thats not MT i think. i would love to get it. now this is only what i think if you dont agree with me so what i dont care.

Lol, I love these dicussions. Delay is to high for keeping aggro .. give to a warrior to keep taunt ...

What a pile of crap.

Fact 150 dd will not create agro. Hell rangers get a self 150 dd proc with stun at L65 and they dont get aggro ... hate inducing itmes give aggro .. 150 dd doesnt.

The delay ... 20 delay at max haste is hitting the delay cap which is 10 (for the really stupid people out there the max delay of a weapon is 10 ie anything with 20 delay or lower is going as fast as it can if you have chanter haste and a 40% item)

As for who to give this to ...

Rogue ... get a grip the use pokers
Bards .. ROFL dps ...
Warriors ... pointless for a MT but maybe for an occasional tank for side DPS
Rangers .. only good choice as they will out damage all the other classes with this in main.

You guys need to read more about the game.

RE: rofl
# Apr 07 2004 at 3:08 AM Rating: Decent
Of course a ranger would say something like this.

You tell others, "you guys" to read about the game, while being quite ignorant yourself.

Warriors: The damage and an aggro inducing aug will cause good aggro, the STA and HP add to the HP pool.
Rogues: The rogues only need one piercing weapon, in the main hand, to be able to backstab. The off hand can be used for 1HB, 1HS or another piercer. This weapon has a better ratio for the offhand than most daggers available to rogues at this stage of the game.
Bards: With the appropriate AAs and gear bards are not doing bad DPS at all.
Rangers: Want me to say something equally ignorant that you accomplished? Ok: Why give this to a ranger, all they do is plink arrows and exploit not getting aggro all day, why would they need this to melee?

Seriously, this weapon is good in the hands of any of the classes that can use it. It all depends on the state of equipment and the needs of the guild and that particular person.
RE: rofl
# Aug 09 2003 at 8:07 PM Rating: Decent
Actually there is no minimum delay. This myth came about from EQ's logging function only logging once per second, so when it's parsed out it appears the minimum delay is 10 (1 second).
Aggro on a Ranger?
# Jun 03 2003 at 1:28 PM Rating: Good
For the geniuses in this thread that think rangers will steal aggro with this weapon, I figure I'll clue you in on a few things.

No, a ranger would not steal aggro with this weapon. I'm a lvl 65 ranger on the Veeshan Server and I've had this weapon for a over two months now, and I have never taken aggro via melee. I rarely ever jolt in a fight, either.

As for jolt... fizzle? wtf? Hi, no. If a spell fizzles you just click the spell again for cast. The mana cost on jolt is almost nonexistant, and it takes a total of 0.5 seconds to try to cast again on an interrupt. Unless you're intelligent ranger has been chain casting his Entrap AA, no, he won't take aggro. The proc on this weap has almost no aggro.

The ranger stealing aggro with a Double Edged Stormblade is not unlucky, he's just stupid. This sword is for rangers and rogues ( offhand ). Warriors go find your EB weaps. After your rng/rog crew is outfitted weaponwise, bard or war works. Give it to your dps classes first.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 09 2003 at 4:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This weapon is SCREAMING BARD!! Of course you all are thinking "this shoudl go to a guild MA" Well think about it.. if your guild is doing Agnarr... then you are a higher end guild and your MA/SA/TA all have better weapons, or outfitted with the Icestorm drop and BoC from AOW. Now lets rule out a rogue asap, and Rangers since they will be bowing this thing to death. The Mana, and Wis is all bard. So needless to say, if you are worried about agro, a bard will NOT steal agro from your guilds MA with just this weapon. Mainly because the guilds MA/SA/TA will have BoC, taunt, and most likely enough AA to support them holding agro. Also the entire raid party will not be attacking at the same time the MA does. So the MA will build up probably at max 1 min ofagro before all others are called in. and your other wars will be on the adds, mages banishing, and chanters charming for more DPS on Agnar himself.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 20 2003 at 1:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Probably much more than one minute, btw. The portal up to Agnarr's room is really screwey, and Agnarr pops named adds during the fight, including one thats always up as soon as you engage. There are also other adds but you shouldnt have to worry about them, they shouldnt actually engage your raid at all if you have half a brain. There wont be any charming unless you ***** up.

For those of you saying the del is too high to use as MT I just want to ask how you figure that? Not sure what max haste is but know it is not hard to have 80-90 percent haste in even most pick up groups makes the difference between 20 del and 25 del vertually nonexistant. Not only that I know of MT's useing 2hs weapons with an enormouse del of 44 (windblades). Not only that but the 20 dmg on it is huge. A MT with this weapon that can not keep agroe is either a. not trying or b. (left blank intentionally) and as far as those other weapons go not all Tanks in a guild would be lucky enough to have them. Now as far as rangers getting this I WOULD LOVE to have it. I am a 61 ranger and no offence to the others that posted here but I ONLY get agroe if I want it period exclamation point the end (that is until MT dies then I am usually toast right after). I also have AM 2 (for those of you that still don't know AM = archery mastery) but if a mob is against the wall arrows wont hit, if the mob is blocked in anyway arrows wont hit (have been at range of about 70 with a shrunken Barb Shammy directly between me and mob about half the distance to it block my arrows from hitting), and if the mob is rooted arrows don't do crap dmg wise.
Thats it for me I am outta here

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 02 2002 at 3:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) as i meant to say in my previous post, i would think that most guilds would award this to a warrior - to dual wield this with a blade of carnage would be sick. rangers don't need the aggro from proc at this stage of the game - jolt is frequently resisted by pop mobs.

Jolt is resisted a lot by PoP mobs, true... Proper positioning, appropriate use of autoattack, etc., can greatly reduce the need for Jolt anyway--and you don't have to avoid proc'ing weapons either. Granted, a quick succession of lucky(?) procs can pull aggro--but that's why we have hp/ac...and healers!
#REDACTED, Posted: May 12 2003 at 2:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 3 post talking about this weapons and rangers. 3 post that are clueless you tell me what ranger will be melleing mobs when they can do more dmg with a bow. OMFG FOR REAL ? not only would me as a ranger not roll on this causei dont melle but i would not even roll on it cause plain and simple this weapon would do more use in a warrior/rog/bard. specially since it dont have any dex may i add.
RE: follow up
# Aug 19 2003 at 7:09 AM Rating: Default
Any ranger claiming that rangers use their bow at all times for dps on raids is simply a ranger thats not a part of a raiding guild.

More often than not the mob is pinned in a wall/corner and the arrows will just poof. So on too many encounters the Ranger is forced to melee.

(trust me we would rather use archery if we could, but mob positioning wont always allow that)

Now, any class listed as able to use the weapon can benefit from it. 125 HP is wonderful =) and it dishes out some nice dps.

It seems to be a fairly common drop as well. My guild is 3 for 3 so far.

# Dec 02 2002 at 3:08 PM Rating: Default
actually if you are in a guild that is able to take out these new, extremely tough PoP mobs, most rangers are doing more damage with their bow than they would melee anyway. a good bow is by far the best weapon in the game for a high level ranger, and the best way to avoid aggro altogether while dealing out the most damage. and if you were to get this weapon it would go in your primary slot as 90% of the rangers out there are still using swiftwind as their primary source of haste - only a few items in the game are going to give you a comparable percentage. anyways, its still a great weapon to have in your ******* for those crappy days where a ranger gets stuck tanking in a pick up experience group. comparable to a blade of carnage.
RE: actually
# Jul 17 2003 at 9:38 PM Rating: Default
Actually, /assist does not help when a mob is pushed up against the wall in PoP. Archery will not work when a mob is pushed up against a wall, it refuses to hit the mob, you still take your shot and waste an arrow (for you non EQ rangers) but it will not hit. Thats when this blade comes in handy :)

In all probability right now the class most likely to get this weapon for offhand is a ranger w/o Render of Souls. Granted it is a extremely nice weapon for those classes listed but honestly think about it for a moment. Warriors by this time more than likely are using Bloodfrenzy main hand and BoC/ Hategiver in off hand, or swapping in primal from time to time. Rogues would be wanting to use weapons with back stab mods in both hands and are probably using Bloodbath/ Kalshazar and swapping in primal for the proc. Bards are doomed to have their epic in off hand for all eternity and then most will look for something with a mod to their songs on their primary weapon. Then there is the ranger, the only person not looking for enraging blow or mods to main skill types on their weapons. But like I said earlier, it is a nice weapon for any of the listed classes but in honesty and reality the ranger will probably get it.

You don't kill Karana or any of his lackies. You kill Agnarr, who is a manifestation of Karana's nightmares. Killing Agnarr wakes Karana up and he rewards you with a flag.

I too am a karana (most often then not doomed ekkk....Half elf ranger myself. I can see any melee class avail using this wep, its got rangerd stats for veryone purpose, However, Ill make my ranger point insert here:
Warriors: (they have insanely AC STAT player made armor at disposal not to mention 72 percent of all mobs out there drop war gear.

Bards: unfortuantely i agree bards seem to use alot of cha and mid range stats on their armor, but theres not too lil that they cant do w their songs for inc stats.

Rogues: a whole other class, nothing like the bard or ranger or warrior, a rogue should be designed to never get hit, and if so not for too long, their main ability should be chasing crit backstabs.

I'm not flaming u all, I have a rogue war and bard myself.

Ranger: Do a fast search on ranger armor, and ull see that anything ac25+ is uber to us at any lvl w stats, and most often its nothing on stats 5 here 4 there. Given the chance at a single range weapon that is not only fast as hell, but comes loaded w stats to help us not be the first ones to fall in a raid (clerics second - trying to save our sorry stat ****** I would gladly jump on a roll for this, and I'd prob flip my lid if the raid leader just awarded it to a warrior, seeing as most of them get dang near shd pal ratio weps anyway at the lvl it would take to drop this foe.

Let the rangers get a few good lewtz brothers, and we might just surprise you and live long enough to help slay the mob.

end my pitch =)
