If you want to have a complete fishing equippment you may also get an Anizok's Bait Dispenser. If you have both items you can fish all day without running out of poles, baith and Ale.
Get 2 Nightmare Cichlid Bones and 2 Vallorian Discus Bones, either by buying them from the Bazaar or by fishing and preparing them. Then hand them *unstacked* to Ramos Jerwan (a barbarian near the pool in Plane of Knowledge at location -30, +1430) so all 4 slots of the trade window are filled. In return he hands you the Fisherman's Companion.
To get the Vallorian Discus / Nightmare Cichlid Bones (Recipe), combine 1 of each of the following in a tackle box by using the experiment button;
Vallorian Discuss (or Nightmare Cichlid)
Filleting Knife (71 trivial Smithing; 3 metal bits (18 trivial Smithing; 2 Small Piece of Ore, 1 Water Flask) , 1 water flask, 1 scaler mold (sold in PoK by Savet Ironstove))
Celandine Herb (Sold in PoK by Severg Odanos)
Roots (Foraged by Players)
Note: Filleting Knife is returned on failure.
2cp: With Fishing (153) all 4 combines were successful. Other combines of similar nature (prepared fish) using Rujarkan Chubs, Thulian Mudskippers, etc. were successful 4 out of each 5 combines.
Komzur Nocht; 53rd Shin Paladin of Marr Dordan Bitroggen; 54th Kor Cleric of Marr <Gremio de Rana>
Once you obtain 55th this quest is simple! Load up your fishing gear, a backpack of bait and a lev or DMF and hit PoN. Head in the direction of the "Nightstalker" camp, when you see the river STOP! There are 2 static spawns here along the river/streams edge, simply park yourself between the 2 and just over the water (hence the lev) and fish away. I have spent many hours here stocking up for this quest and rarely get agroed if I remain still. PoV is a relaxed fishing spot, just fish at the left side (when looking at..) the razor caves at the head of the river. I have only ever caught agro here once when a kiting necro decided to FD a tad to close to me :P. On a side note: "Buffing" classes can make some pocket change buy casting for cash here :)

So after a bit were done and heading out, I look at my inventory(thank god for the Tinker bag) and theres all those forages of 1-15pound meats and whatnot(true to thier name in weight)
Means you have to bone 2 of each fish. Happy fishing and good luck getting back all the beer you spill in the process. Least that's where I think all the summoned ale comes from :p.
HEY all you Necros Monks and SKs out there.. might be a bad thing me saying this.. but you can Fish While Feign Deathd.. you dont cast its much like you sitting and Fishing.. but Hey it works.. i've fishd in Sirens grotto by myself and PoN no problem right by the Waterfall.. kinda sux when you have to get there and get back tho.. but thats what Harmshild is for..hope it helps..

[i]Fun quest to do when your bored and all, but I would have much rather it summon bait than Ale.. (or both wouldve been sweet) Still takes so much room in bags to carry bait wouldve been awesome having it all in one item slot.[i]
True, it would be neat. Still, I'm guessing this is more for fun than anything else.
It should be noted that, at high Alcohol Tolerance skill levels, melee characters gain physical advantages from drinking. For these fighters, the beer itself is space consuming, hogging up much of the space while they have to constantly drink again as they sober up. Plus, hey, I'm mainly a Druid.. our Forage skill provides more Bait than I could even use, and I fish quite a bit!
Actually, now, I'm going to get my AC skill up, after completing this test!
PS- Never accept the Alcohol a GM gives you on Halloween. I did. Drank one of the half-stack on a noob chanter. It was OOM for the next hour, since the effect of the drink was a mana DoT.. drained my mana away pretty quickly. =/
Well i did this quest today and found out that the NPC dont like it too much when you dont unstack the bones.... so unstack the bones. I did a petition and the GM gave me the bones back, save your self some time and unstack the bones

It's not such a duh. If you've done the bone chip turn in in Cab, then you might think that stacking bone chips is allowed, since for that quest, it is.
Frankly, I don't understand why they coded it so you have to do individual items. If it requires 2, then stack 2 of htem.....or at least let me take just one out.
SOE is just one big carpal tunnel lawsuit waiting to happen.
Yah, people were factioning just waay to quick for them back when you could hand in 4 stacks of 4 things at a time. Was too much of a pain for them.
Seriously, I think they removed the stacking issue to enable the code that makes NPC's hand back items they don't want. Granted they won't hand back things stacked now, but at least they'll have back un-needed or accidentally given items. Wish they could find a way to have them hand back everything not needed so we can hand in stacks again.
I finally got one of these, not the easiest thing to do when not flagged for Valor. This is really great never having to worry about breaking your rod anymore, and who ever heard of fishing without ale to help pass the time. Fantastic addition to anyones equipment. Enjoy your fishing all..
Summon Ale is GREAT - I love to drink while I fish. However, I run out of bait. What we need to finish the set is something like "Brell's Neverending Bait" that summons fishing bait of some kind. This would allow two slots in a bag to store all that is needed to go fishing at any time anywhere without having to run back to town all the time for bait.
Fish Gunthak Mackerel in the Ocean of Tears, combine in tackle box with skinning knife to yield (IIRC) five baits.
While time consuming, if you knew you were going to be out fishing for a very long time in an inaccessible area, you could fill a backpack up with Gunthak Mackerel beforehand and essentially have five times the amount of bait you would normally have, but with the same amount of inventory space used.

Finally something for the few fishermen of us out there! Even helps out those of us who even like to drink...too bad I'm too low to get into Valor without some serious help...Guess I'll just buy the damned bones off of a higher dude who likes to fish as well.
Well no prerequisite to get into Nightmare (just have to be 45 or higher). Might try seeing if anyone in PoT or PoK will trade you Valorian Discus for Nightmare Cichclids, that's what I'm going to try to do. Of course, if they can get the PoV fish, they can probably get the PoN fish too.
I am on The Rathe server, and I am willing to trade a Black Tome with Silver Runes (you can use it for the Book Collection quest, or to twink an alt) for the prepared fish bones needed to acquire this item. (My Fishing skill is nowhere near high enough to prepare the fish bones myself (skill is at 85, and the bones trivial in the 150's, I think. Maybe higher) , and I don't know anyone whose skill is that high, either)
The fishing pole it summons has the effect of summon ale also. So not only do you have unlimeted fishing poles with a 3 percent fishing mod, you also have an item that summons ale.
Utterly moronic on their part. A lvl 20 spell that would actually be used, vs. a quested item that is not only a pain to acquire, but is pretty much not even needed by anyone can actually do the quest?! (There were already some dropped items (besides the quested Brell Serillis Disciple Symbol) that can summon ale)
I hope they regain their brains and put the spell back in at some point.
I like the idea. All fishing poles break, but you will never be without one if you can summon them. Items that are just for fun and role playing value make a great addition to the game.
