From what I understand if it passes the disease check it will do 20 more damage, not increase the weapon to a 60 damage weap.
*** EDIT BELOW ***
I am now changing my comment to unsure. I have a weapon that hits for 600 max damage consistently(non-crit). Seems that is my max hit and I added a +4 fire damage aug to it. Now I get lots of 600 and 628 hits (non-crit of course).
So maybe it does change the weapon's damage when passing the check. If that is the case, then Great Sword of Pestilence would have rocked, especially for its era.
Who know.. maybe at one time it just added the damage, but now it's different. I cant imagine a weapon in todays game having a 20 dis dmg mod. It would be overpowering.
It's my understanding that disease is one of, if not, the lowest resists on mobs. So with +20 dis dam wouldn't this sword easily average out as the equivalent of a 50/42 or better weapon.....
Heh, sorry but even using common sense you can see it has 20 disease damage that adds to the weapon damage. They both use the variable name DMG so it's easy to see...
Yes this +20 dis/dmg it makes it just like RalaanSouldredeemer said it. now i have noticed that if you have someone to debuff the MOBS. Go ahead and try it out with and without someone to do it with!!!

Well...dunno about you...but my pally wouldnt want an aoe disease spell in most groups Name: Scourge Level: 39 Mana: 170 Class: Conjuration Era: Original Everquest Vendor(s): Ak`Anon Necro Guild Cabilis Necro Guild Freeport Evil Vendors Neriak Necro/SK Guild Paineel Necro Guild Qeynos Evil Vendors
Approx Spell Cost: Unknown Researchable: No Type: Area Effect Hate List Reduction <---AOE!! Max Duration: Instant Casting Time: Instant Recast Time: Instant Actual Effects: Target: Disease Damage (Approx 500) ups
First of all, why not? Second of all, who cares the stats are worth it. Third of all, it's not even an AoE, but obviously you've never been to the back of justice for the rats there cast scourge. It's not even a buyable spell. And in no way shape or form does it do 500 damage. Maybe 100 tops but no way near 500. It's a fairly weak disease and rabies even beats it.
Anybody whose name is on the race class list can make good use of this. As far as agro goes, anyone who wishes to loot this and can go in VT is probably well equiped to take hits. I don't think there is no right or wrong class on any godly item really. Whether class A or class B gets it doesnt matter. Either way someone is gonna be happy and someone is gonna be kicking some *** 8)
just curiouse why this playa doesn't have any damage bonus on this uber item, with a recamended lvl of 60 and only melee equipable wouldn't there be some friggen huge damage bonus on this? or is there some sort of exception that take place so that certain items don't get damage bonuses, just curiouse, flames are welcome, how else can i realize my wrongs. hehe
Had to respond to the chap above about the ranger aggro and usefulness of this weapon.
First, I agree with Tannah on the aggro management piece. Although I am not in the most well equipped guild on drinal, our warriors are well equiped enough to maintain the aggro. The weapon should not be allocated purely on if the ranger will get aggro or not.
Second point of interest is the DOT itself. 540 DOT spaced out over 21 ticks is not a really significant amount of damage when fighting mobs with the huge hit points that you find in the end game.
Third point is the lovely set of stats, and the incredible Damage delay ratio. By this point in the game, many rangers are begining to sheath their epics in lieu of weapons that have either better stats, or damage delay ratios. Againt the High AC mobs that we are facing in the Luclin encounters, we are finding that despite all the praise given to EQ+AM3, ranger DPS is greatly reduced on a lot of the mobs -- similiar results for our fast flashy dueal weilding weapons. I have recorded far to many min damage hits for 1 than I care to recall.
So, perhaps rangers ought to be considered for the high damage 2 handed weapon, coupled of course with a haste item to replace our old swiftwinds.
Please note, I am not attempting to snatch this fine weapon away from our fellow melee -- this would be a super weapon for both Palys as well as the SKs and the non MT warrior [ although the 125 mana is kinda lost hon him :-( ] I a mearly attempting to refute the previous silliness and present an additional side to the "WE HATE RANGER CLAN" point of view that pervades these threads. I am happy for whomever is awarded this fine weapon.
Very well stated indeed, but I am surprised neither of you has mentioned the utter fact that all Paladins & Shadow Knights will be drooling over this until after the release of PoP and Afterlife's long awaited venture into some of those zones. The fact that it's no drop saddens me of course, but with those stats I can't say much about it either. It has an awesome ratio, especially with the added bonus of disease damage and the DoT of course to boot. And Noone could complain about the stats... I just wonder what kinda pic it's got...thinking an oozingly green noctivagant-type blade (such as the Argent line and many others like it), but that would only be my hopes of course...would hate to have a dinky looking 2hs that looked like the BABS or somethin.
No way would a ranger die wielding the Greatsword. Say you could get the delay down (with massive haste) to like 20 ... that is most likely slower than the MT's hasted one handers. For purposes of aggro, it's not the damage that gets the mob's attention, but the shortest delay weapons doing the most hits per round. A couple of fast weapons is what good tanks use to maintain reliable aggro. Of course, if the PROC on the weapon generates a lot of aggro, then there may be some concern.
No way a ranger should get ahold of this weapon, unless all the paladins / shadowknights present have even crazier weapons ... the weapon's like 60 damage / 42 delay most of the time, for Chrissakes :) I love big 2hders, but would probably keep very quiet if this one dropped for our raid force (unless for some reason we had a severe shortage of pallies/sks).
While your statement that "...it's not the damage...but the shortest delay weapons..." is partially true, there is still some missing info... In most cases this would be true, but having played a 55+ Warrior, I have been able to keep aggro off of a 60 Ranger with Swiftwind and Lupine Dagger with my 55 Warrior using a Stonebladed Axe of Dismay (44/44 2hs). We were both hasted by a 60 chanter and yet he wasn't able to pull aggro off of me at all. The REALLY strange thing was when I switched to Goranga Club/Centi Longsword combo, the ranger took aggro immediately and I could not gain it back... So, while delay normally controls aggro, after a certain point, Damage will begin to take the aggro away...
A ranger weilding this weapon would be in a guild with warriors that would be more than able to keep agro off of him. Take a look at some of the one handed weapons that are dropping in the same zone, i dont think a ranger would be getting any agro with this thing.
