If you failed this combine, it will return you 4 Glowing Crystallized Velium (as well as 2 Crushed Glowing Crystallized Velium) and then you can put 4 Glowing Crystallized Velium + 1 Superb Leather Pading + Velium Smithy Hammer in forge and you'll get 2 Crushed Glowing Crystallized Velium in return.

Please note, that Allakazam offers two different combines for crushing the mined crystals.
USE THE QUEST TEXT and combine SEVEN - not 4 or 8. Combining 2 or 4 is NOT going to give you the correct amount and you will end up short. The quest specifically tells you to combine ALL SEVEN crystals for the combine.
Anything less will result in complete and utter FAILURE and you cannot complete the quest, and have to abandon the task and redo the WHOLE earring #3 quest all over again!
