I'm no sk for fd class for that matter but I could see a potential use. There is a 15 second recast on the casted spell which would prolly suck if it failed.
I may tend to be the dissident here, but I bought these legs because I thought they might be useful, for in my early levels FD always fizzled, being the only spell that used abjuration, outside of resists, which are relatively useless as of lvl 45. The cast time, 3.0, is terribly slow, and the req. of lvl 45 is reduntant, for by this time, I no longer fizzle. As far as manaless FD upon rezz...you've gotta be kidding me. If you need to FD just after rezz, you're already dead...prepare for another rezz, and hope you get your Blood Ember Greaves looted quick enought for your second manaless rezz.

Posted:Feb 26 2003 at 5:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why exactly do they put down races that can't be SKs? I mean, how can that race use it if the race can't be a Shadow Knight, like the Wood elves for example... *Boggle*
Ikky's wear plate. They can wear all the Velious and PoP quested, Engraved Royal Veluim, Crystal Chitin, as well as allmost all of the planar and dropped high end plate in game. It just the low and mid range plate that they generally cant wear. It's common for Iksar SK's to wear lots of Dreadscale until creeping up on 50. But after that, options really open up.
FD from BE greaves is interruptable. BE greaves overpriced and overrated, Thurg legs, PoG legs almost as good and a helluva lot easier to get. Naturally kael/ss legs far superior, and for pure ac blood runed is better yet. Even matchless or peerless dragonleg breeches are superior. You never count on the effect on these, by the time you cast get interrupted etc etc your FD has recycled and can be cast again. My advice is get 60 and rely on death peace (watch yer friendly 60s feign pull as good as monks, better in many spots because you have to snare pull). Compare to stats on other melee legs off VS, sk got shafted big time, flat out. It's a damn shame =(
Um, "dude" actually it is easier to just cast the spell FD, since the casting time is WAY more on the BE Leggings. If you are trying to FD pull try to FD with the leggings you will most likley get interupted and die. Casting the spell is much safer than using effect. Just wanted to let you know ;)~
Well... if you're foolish like I am, and wait WAAAAY too long in a fight before you realize you're in trouble.. and *HORROR*!!! your mana bar is completely empty. (I have died many a needless death because I stupidly ran out of mana for a feign.) These give you at least a CHANCE to survive.
But these could be a second chance if your FD fails. It's also nice to have FD available on gear if you need to get out of a sticky situation and don't have FD memmed for some reason. In most situations though, the cast FD is easier to get off.
So you should get these due to the offchance that you MAY need them when your rezzed. Not that another 96% rez would come your way. Or when your out of mana, and you need to FD cuz you overpulled(why are you pulling with 0 mana?). Well, you'd be interrupted, but lets just stick with your goofy scenario. These are worthless. Use your brains.
actually, by "second chance," I meant in that 14 seconds until you can try to cast again if you get a "Soandso has fallen to the ground" message. 14 seconds when you needed to have FD'd is a very long time, may as well try a shot at these.
an SK who just died and got clicky-rezed back into the raid.
There are many times where as a monk I for whatever reason died (AOE when at low health from pull, rampage, Add or Pop durring a pull) and was clicked in, grabed most of my gear and started swinging. It happens from time to time, I cant imagine any hybrid sitting to mem spells. These legs (despite having very nice stats) give you a way to still FD later in the fight.
26 AC! Bottom Line! That's why you're getting these leggins. Sure the Str and Int are a bonus, along with the hp. but AC IS KING! Despite what you think! So what if your FD Fails. this might give you another crack at it...if not so what. Would have to be a mean @SS mob or at least multiples to take you down if wearing a full suit of BE.
Before i got my BE that i currently have (Gaunts, Arms, Bracer and Boots) I wore Crusty Armor. Decent AC and Amazing Str and Sta. I found myself getting owned by mobs all the time...keeping the CLE oom. Once i upgraded to BE and a new shield (905 unbuffed ac w/o legs, helm, bp) i take MUCH less damage. You may have 200+ Str, but you get your butt kicked all over the place w/o good armor.
just my 2cp
Gallowbraid Megrim 49 Shadow Knight Avatars of Bane --Bristlebane--
it's for damn sure that you never use these during a fight, and you dont wear em for the effect either, they are awsome ac and stats, thats it, the effect, FD, is a spell you usually use when you NEED to use it and with the looong *** casting time it wont work well by clickin the legs
I've used them in a fight on several occasions... saved my a$$ too. 3seconds not *that* long a time to have to channel through.
Think of it this way, if you cast your normal FD and fail, you can try with the legs 3 times before your spell pops back up... thats a pretty big deal.
There is now a questable necro/SK mask in Luclin that is basicly a circlet of shadow for feign death. Face wearable, NOT invantory clickable, some mana and disease/poison resist and some ac (fairly junky stats for the level you can get it) but it has the effect: feign death. 1.7 second casting time. .2 seconds longer than normal feign death. If you just have to have a FD effect and have it as fast as it can be, that's the item to get. If you don't mind the extra 1.3 second casting time on this, it's stats blows the mask's stats out of the water.
Oh yeah, the mask is usable a few levels before this and is much easier to get.
FD with skill or spell always has a chance of failure even if you are out of melee although the chance of the mob seeing through the spell does seem to go down with range. If one MOB sees through the others soon will. Also if any caster has started a spell and you feign before the spell hits you it will automatically see through the FD. If you start to FD and see a caster MOB start a spell towards you you might as well move and interupt your spell and retry. Hope that is helpful.
Malegrim Troll SK Sithkar Iskar monk Shadowmane Human necro
First off, unlike the other BE pieces, you will NEVER see these sold. They drop off of Venril Sathirs. Unless you are in a formidable guild you won't get your hands on these.
FD has a recost time of 15 secs. When it fails SK's have to run around for 15 secs to get it back to FD again!! Because of this FD failure usually leads to SK death (unless you want to train your group). Having the effect allows you a second chance at it. I am also pretty sure that I have heard it said that effects on armor cannot be interrupted. Who cares if it takes 1.5 times longer to cast if you don't get interrupted. It is unusual for the spell not to be interrupted at least once while I cast it, so 1.5 times as long is still better than recasting.
Umm, I hope I am misunderstanding this post. I don't have these (yet) so I can't really say anything for the cast time on the effect. However I can say that fd (the spell that is) does NOT have a 15 sec recovery time. I estimate the recovery to a bit less than the monk fd, about 4 or 5 secs or so. If I'm understanding this post right then the person responsible obviously doesn't play an sk and should be more careful about statements like these. If not, then the only other option is that the post is talking about the leggings effect time which would tremendously lower the use of these leggings other then for ac ( standing around getting beaten at this lvl in a situation that demands an fd is not really a viable option survival wise ).
Kamlatir Baresi, shadowknight 45, Far Seekers, The Rathe
You are not misunderstanding this post. I play a DE SK Lvl 49 and know first hand that the recast time on FD is a bit longer than 5 secs. Would like to know what race you are playing to get it to repop in 5 secs. I think you should time it again. It is more like 15 seconds if not more.
As for the armor not being interrupted: I have BE arms and bracers, and if I cast gather shadows from a bracer, it takes an ungodly amount of time to take effect. If I run around during this time, it will be interrupted. This would make the greaves effect almost useless, having a 3 sec. cast time on FD with enough mobs on you that you actually need to FD would mean almost certain doom. I have heard however that the greaves cast time is the same as the actual spell. I've seen these sold several times on Quellious.
You are right, the casting of these is quite interruptable. I am a shaman and have many of my Jaundiced armor pieces, and I am sad to say that they have a casting time of 10 seconds. Done them a few times in battle buffing the party up, stole aggro on the numerous adds for my actions, and gotten the spells interrupted during the numerous hits that land in 10 seconds.
Greaves cast at 3.0 seconds, normal FD at 1.5. And its still useful, even when getting hit by several mobs. Havn't you ever channeled Life Leech in much the similar fashion?
A dark elf aaproached me waering these, and showing off, chain FD'd in front of me about 10 times, in the same time it took me to cast once and then recast. Either the cast time is much faster than reported here, or he had some other item that had right-click FD, and was putting me on.
The level at which you're able to right click these is 45, the same with all the other kunark armors, and many kunark and velious weapons with good procs (Vehement Sword of Reivaj, Sword of Skyfire, etc). The cast time on the BE bracers (gather shadows) and the vambraces (vampiric embrace) is something like 2x the regular cast time, but still very nice as far as the vambraces are concerned, since it doesn't make you have to mem a spell to have the effect. The bracers on the other hand are almost completely useless for their effect. Takes so long to cast it that it's nowhere near worth the effort. Circlet of Shadow is right click 0 cast time gather shadows, useable from inventory. I suggest getting a cos to any SK, to free up the spell slot and it has saved my life many times when invis started to drop inside a crowded dungeon. Just right click and you're invisible again, and it's so fast that no mobs will agro you.

Posted:Apr 10 2001 at 3:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, if there IS a casting time on these it kinda defeats the whole purpose of Feign Death, because FD won't work unless your a given distance away from the mob, and having to stand still to use an effect, when the mob is pounding on you, ain't going to happen.
The post you just made proves you know nothing about FD. I am a level 41 sk and the feign death spell (which has a considerable cating time) has frequently saved my life in the middle of combat while being hit. Running out of mana was the only problem I ever faced, and this item would make feign death much easier for sks. Nevertheless FD is not foolproof.
Being as Monks have FD as a Skill and Necro's and SK's have FD as a Spell, there are probably some reaction differences. I believe that what the above Monk said is in a way true, for us Monks, we have to Time or skill use between strikes and spells, placing a little distance between the Mob and the Monk tends to enhance the success of Our FD. For the FD Spell users, it is perhaps somewhat different, perhaps your timing does not have to be so percise. Either way, we each have our own special talent with FD, and we each learn how to use it best for ourselves. I for one am glad the SK's are getting FD on an item, Kudos. I really doubt this is going to assist them in improving their role as FD pull/splitters, as I think the time delay will just allow them more chance to get shreaded.
Not so, Monks have an easier time of using FD than caster does. We have the same time constraints of Mob attacks and spells, but also have the additional limitation of 1.5 seconds from when we hit the button until it works....
