tradeskills

to everyone who thinks this: "OMG Tradeskills cost way too much to take up! You must be nuts to make Jewelry, Smithing, and Tailoring to 200!"

Your in for a rude awakening because I have all my tradeskills to 200, save Alchemy and Fishing, and its only cost me 5k total, if that. You need to know what your doing and invest the time. The only real reason to do this, is to get the signets in the planes, other than that I'd say stick with only a few tradeskills.

Good luck with ur TSes!

How on earth did you get to 200 in tailoring for less than 5kpp?

I think people who talk of the expensive of tradeskills think like me - you could spend days farming materials for 'free', but you still have the effective cost since you could bazaar these pieces and make a lot of money. Likewise the time spent doing the farming could me spent at your favourite cash source (Rathe, rockhoppers, whereever).

Having said that, it cost me pricily 750pp getting JC to 191, GMing brewing cost me next to nothing, and I actually ended in Profit from fletching to 201.

Tradeskills' biggest cost is time and sanity. If you have enough of both you don't mind losing, then get clicking :)
These can have the No-Drop removed

I sell these on Torvonnilous when I have all the necessary components to make them. It is a royal pain to farm all of the stuff to make these. I sell the BPs for 17,500 plat. People give me crap about the price and say I can buy barbed ringmail for 5k, so I say go buy barbed ringmail then. I have never had a problem selling them. Farming the gems and the velium hound furs takes alot of time and anything less than that is not worth it to make them.

Well I would deffinetely trade my Crusty for this. And it is better than the twilight sea stuff. Just curious how this would look on my barbarian warrior.

Ummm did he say anything about the difficulty of the prayer shawl quest? Did he even suggest that the Twilight seas quest is of comperable difficulty? No. So why are you responding to something that he didn't even say?

Clearly you're just going around looking for a fight...

This item almost makes me wanna take up trade skills except that its no drop and wouldnt be all that useful to a necro I would consider upping my skill enough to do the shawl quests but dont have the time or the money to invest in it right now...maybe someday...

Have no fear folks - this stuff can be changed so that it is droppable. Check out EQ Trader's corner and you will see a recipe (under Jewelcraft) to make it droppable. I'd imagine that it will be fairly pricey, but you should be able to buy it if the skill works correctly.

Tuberosity Mutation - 51st Cleric
140 Jewelcraft, 171 Smithing, 115 Tailoring, 150 Baking, 150 Pottery, 140 Fletching

To raise my Jewel craft skill to 176 it has taken 4+k (non-enchanter).. yeah a bit more then 4k! That skill still isn't even trival for this stuff.
It also doesn't include the cost to raise tailoring and smithing to 150+ skills each.
If you have never tailored you have no idea what you're in for. If you think no problem, your nuts! Farming materials for tailoring has to be the most mundan thing this game has to offer.

So, if you add it all up .. take your 4.5 k it's probably going to cost you to get to 175+ in jewel craft, then go farm something until you have 10k more from that (trust me, it'll be faster then building your tailoring skill) , then take your 14k and buy something nice! And if you still don't think that's enough, farm more.. because i'm sure you still got 10k faster then getting your tailoring in the 150's and we still haven't touched smithing!

these would rock if they weren't no drop... not necesarrily for people to make money off them... but it sucks to have to have all the major tradeskills at 180+ for this... I know I'll never get my jewelry skill that high... tailor maybe and I already have a smith... but I trade with jewelers... never wanted to make one /smacks verant... I wish they would have made it be droppable until the last step then you combine it yourself in a forge or something...
RANGER!!!!
# May 11 2002 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
A Ranger can use this stuff, do you know how happy that makes me?!?! I'm a full trade skill junky, working on all my skill to master. I'm only level 40 ATM but still, it's a LOT better then my Ivy Etched Tuinc.

I know I sure wish I could get this for my rogue somehow :(
would anyone use this?
# May 10 2002 at 4:07 PM Rating: Default
This is going to sound a bit strange but...would anyone actualy take a level 1 character (say an Ogre warrior) and work their smithing up fast (easily done to about 135, I belive it gets a bit harder after that and a lot more expensive) and make themselves a suit of this for their twink? (admitadly getting the gems would be a pain, but not the first time I've seen someone arrange for their twink to loot something no-drop.)
The AC is nice, low weight, and decent stats. If it wasn't nodrop you'd see these for sale!

Just wondering,

unfortunately you do not only need a smithing skill of 180 or so, you also need to be a 150+ tailor and a 180+ jeweler to make this.
And I will make me one as soon as I can get my jewelry craft up, AC 32 is very nice for a shaman wearable breastplate that does not require a full scale raid to get. Rogues might even like the stats.
RE: would anyone use this?
# May 13 2002 at 5:42 AM Rating: Default
yes, I DO like the stats. it *might* be worth the time and trouble to get the skills up, but I think I'll just wait for my SS armor.
RE: would anyone use this?
# May 10 2002 at 6:15 PM Rating: Default
no... no one would go through the trouble to make a lv 1 and train the skills that high (after doin the first 7 shawls) just for this crap... if you want RVF armor go loot it in icewell stats are almost (if not exactly) the same... would prolly be cheaper time/cash wise to just buy an mq thurg bp of whatever type you are...

What makes you think you have to do the first 7 coldain shawl quests? Admitadly you most likely have to get amiable faction with the coldain (or better) to get them to respond to the key words, but the key words should enable anyone to manufacture the armor. It would seem you only need the shawl to get the combine container and the reward for the quest.

Royal frosted velium is plate classes only...this is not...big difference.
RE: would anyone use this?
# May 13 2002 at 9:19 AM Rating: Default
but are you gonna go through all the trouble as to make the 1st-7th shawl to get this stuff? as a rogue?

(might be smithable outside of quest... dunno)

Not really worth the effort... know how much youd have to pay to gather all the materials?

**edit**

Factor in failures as well...

From what I understand, you can smith it outside of the shawl quests, you just have to have the skills to make the stuff, and have someone collecting the resources if you're too low levle to collect them yourself.

You have to get the etching tools from the dwarf in Thurgadin. So, you'll need enough faction for her to give them to you, not sure what faction that would be tho.
