I am a 54 shaman who has spent several levels at the hornet nest in BW. This camp is 99% of the time open and if you pull from the north side of the camp you can med up without worry of aggro--no hornets have a pathing thru this area. At 53 ALL ember hornets were still dark blue and are much easier than the scoriae hornets that are a few levels higher. From what Ive heard hornets are no longer considered summoned creatures, which really doesnt concern me since I have no anti-summoned spells. I make a good pet and buff it with just alacrity. Then I buff me as well and pull with Turgurs Insects. Make sure no scoriae hornets are next to what you are pulling or they will aggro too--if necessary pull the scoriae first. This is level dependent though so if you are lower level you may get adds. Anyway I run back to my spot and sick the pet on it with taunting on and the slowed hornet will attack the pet. I immediately cast E bolt which gets me aggroed and I step in and me and the pet melee it to death ( Ogre Shaman with a good weapon and a haste item can still melee 50+ ). If i wasnt full health I may have to cast one superior heal on myself, but these are usually dead within 20 seconds of E-bolt wearing off. Hornets at this camp tend to run in cycles--i.e. you can get 6 green con ash in a row or get nothing but ember and scoriaes for an hour. I'd say tho that these are the best XP for the amount of effort it takes to kill them. I cant recall if they drop spells I know the scoriae do--but I have seen a star ruby or 2 drop from them, but mostly you will get black pearls if anything other than pp drops ( other than wings and pollen ). I dont have real good AC either but rarely get doubled for max damage which is just shy of 100hp/blow. The nice thing about all hornets is that they dont run on low health-which is nice cause Id rather get hit a few more times where I stand than have these things fly off and aggro something else before Im ready for it. 54 Ogre BattleMystic on Luclin server--Aggrok

Hullo! I am currently playing a 37druid with 164wisdom and I was wonderin if I could kite or root/dot any1 of the types of hornets in BW as Lguk takes too long to make or join a group. Send tell with info if ur on the tribunal.
Simple application of Resist buffs,as with the IB in Perma, keeps yer downtime to a minimum. It has been my limited experience that mobs that have an abnormally high resist rate to ta certain type of magic, share their attack with that form. For all the hornets in BW, if you are a tank ask for FR, and if you are a caster that can cast it, do so. As far as you solo druids out there...I know a druid at 50, with 165 wis, that soloed these mobs. Root/dot was the only way to go. After a full hit on mana, no time wasted, she porcupined and it beat it self to death. She told me...that FR dropped average hits down by near 20 points a shot. Not bad for a cheap buff eh?
No way should a druid be root/dotting these guys. Hornets are one of the few mobs in the game that are summoned that aren't pets. Ensnare then kite with banish class spells...huge return for mana loss.
yes, difinatly use banish summond or the line of summond dd spells. and i have to laugh about the first post, 165wis at lvl 50..... thats horable, at lvl 50 you should easyly have 200, most druids i know are at lowest 195 at taht lvl, unless its half elf or human but thats still very low. Either way root dot is ok but in summond cases are spell makes up for that. Oh yea, a druid meeleing soulds like that druid has ahd a very hard life.......
i agree. get a life and quit bashing on people who don't have "l33t lewt", you jerk. we are so happy your life is completed by having such hot gear /sarcasm....we could care less. /rant off
"i agree. get a life and quit bashing on people who don't have "l33t lewt", you jerk. we are so happy your life is completed by having such hot gear /sarcasm....we could care less. /rant off"
You know, people who brag about their gear and status in game and the people who get on their high-horse and ***** about them (like you) are just two sides of the same coin.
The only real difference between people who brag about their gear/status in game and someone like you is that they have the "l33t gear" and you wish that you had it. And because you don't have it, you are bitter about those who do.
What's really sad here is that the person who inspired this pathetic tirade of yours did not do any bragging about their gear (just a comment about someone being underequipped for their level, which was true in this case), yet you still felt the need to make the comment that "we are so happy your life is completed by having such hot gear".
why do these things take anti summon spell dmg? what else can i cast those spells on besides the obviouse? damnit.. ive been wastin my fricken mana this whole time
Well - I don't have any specific info yet (couldn't quite kill one at 44)...but ask hornets have ~1400 hp, cinders have ~2300 and these suckers must have damn near 4500...but just a warning :)
These were impossible to me at lvl 43, so i stuck to cinders and ash hornets, kiting using expel summoned. However, at 44 using Banish summoned (hits for 585 points) i didnt have much of a problem taking the Embers.
With any hornet, always snare, throw in a DoT and kite, blasting with anti summoned spells. Don't try to porcupine because they just hit way too hard. Soloing is always boring but i tried hornets with a partner and exp wasn't that great. I would recommend soloing only.
