Soloed this with self buffs + Conviction in era with 70 tacvi geared ranger. Slowed it with Earthcaller, spammed my haste cloak, relatively easy kill. I did pop Guardian and Auspice and self healed a couple times. The mob is immune to snare and summons. It ran at low health so clear all the trash out of the tunnel before engaging.
Was running down the southern tunnel between the Echo Caverns zone line and the open pit. After running back and forth at end of tunnel at cliff edge, saw him on tracking. Spawned at the latter of the 2 locaions listed on the Ranger Epic 1.5 page (-830, +380) and sat there until I came close. This location is the dead end tunnel.
Solo'd, 70 Ranger, under 100AAs, Baz/GoD/TSS geared. invis'd there, sneaking past some all but one see invis mob. He spawned, burned one IX hot pot. Didn't need WS.. Dead in under a minute.
One note, when I came down the tunnel nothing happened for about a minute, be patient rangers, it will pop. The info here is right on the money, we had a mix of 70+ toons and it went down like smooth whiskey, just wait a bit for the pop is all.
Killed him last night, with a 75 bard along for the hell of it. Being the cocky people we are, we didn't bother clearing any of the adds around him. I tanked him, popped one HoT potion, and he was dead before he got me down below 25%.
If you are planning on duoing him, make sure you clear the mobs towards the end of the tunnel before going too far in. He will aggro you immediately after he spawns, and he spawns as soon as you are near the end of the tunnel.
If you're a decently equipped ranger, you can solo him no problem. If you are soloing him, be safe and slow him with earthcaller first.
EDIT: Oh, and about the adds, I would have been dead had the bard not faded all of them. So, if you're soloing, you *must* clear the tunnel first.

First intersection, turn Left. Next intersection, turn Right. Next intersection turn Left.
As you approach the end of that tunnel leg, youll hit a trap, and the mob will spawn at the very end of the tunnel and probably aggro on you.
The mob is trackable, but it spawns from a trap as you arrive there, so it doesnt matter. It hits for a max of 650. Its slowable. Its immune to snare/root. It Enrages near 10% It RUNS at 10%.

Note, when entering zone from Shadow Haven / Echo Cavern you do NOT cross the invisible bridge to get to this mob. Just travel southwest to a "finger" cave.
I used everything in my ******* to do this, intensity of the resolute, steadfast servant, GotG, elixirs, earthcaller, you name it and it took me down so quickly I didn't know what hit me. I have 1511 aa's and mostly Time geared. I was able to easily kill the neuralgic huntress and the asteatotic highborn in Veksar but this was much harder than those, just to warn anyone who wants to do this on there own.
Ok did this mob today in the deep. TO my surprise he was not on track at all untill we got near the spawn point. We were actually down the hall from where I guessed he would spawn, then all of a sudden while we're clearing some other see invis mobs he spawns and rushes us from down the hall.
Be prepared to fight when you get near his area, he will spawn and rush the ranger, least that's what happened in my experience.
Duel boxxed this with Druid and Ranger. Wasn't too tough.
Ok, this most definitely needs to be posted. Tried to engage the mob tonight; because of a glitch in a nearby mob seeing through invis and us running past, we prematurely drew aggro and wiped (there were two of us, healer was mid-50s).
Went back with a druid to add to the fold and invised again almost all the way to the mob. A problem this time. The ancient thought horror had friends around him - three mobs had spawned in a protective triangle around the target.
Would have been better had I not burned my Wep Shield 20 minutes earlier on the first round with the mob.
No one else posted anything about additional mobs spawning during a second so I felt it would be nice to warn others. If you go back for a second go round within the hour (at least, who knows how that works), expect company with the ancient thought horror.
After some messing around with epic 1.5 mobs today, I can confirm that the Ancient Thought Horror IS a triggered spawn. You cannot do this out of order, IE. fight him before you have the previous parts of the quest done.
You must go through and finish collecting all the blood samples, including the animals using your crafted weapons, and the WW and Veksar mobs.
Once you combine these, bring them to Corun to get his notes, and then to Shana to have them be "Corun's Notes - annotated" - THEN head to the deep, and the Ancient Thought Horror will spawn right as you go around the corner to his area. Hope this helps :)
Killed him today with me 70 ranger and a 70 pally. He was immune to changes in run speed and ran when he got to 10 percent.Alo epic 1.0 landed for a almost full 50 percent. Was easy just put up ws till slowed, waited fer ws to be done and stepped back and tsed and let pally tank it.
He hits for 400s but he can be slowed. He summons (of course) but you can still snare if you want to try kiting. I found him at the end of the "S" tunnel on the most SE part of zone WITHOUT crossing the bridge (loc n750, p400). He does not have a PH. He spawns at random (did not time). He also DEspawns. So if you find him up, by the time you have a group there he will be gone.
Did with 65 cleric, chanter, wizzie. That was way over kill. Died in about 90 seconds.
Did him today for my ranger (31/12/2005) and he was immune to snare. Just used a bard to tank (Anguish geared) and ranger hit him from behind. Went down no problem, barely lost any life on the bard. I don't think I saw a hit above 200, most around 80's. I'd say pretty much any ranger could duo this with a healer, or if you're a bit hesitant, take a healer along with any tank class and you should have no problem at all.
Went to The Deep looking for him and could not see him on track. Any clue to location, I am not sure the loc numbers or my map is messed up. Is it the first number the right side and then second number is the bottom?
