Science Vessels don't have the firepower of escorts, but they have the most advanced technology in Starfleet. Their advanced deflector dishes and sensors can identify and exploit weaknesses in enemy vessels, which make them perfect fleet support.
Science Vessels have the most powerful shields and can innately target an enemy's subsystems with its beam weapons. Science Vessels have additional Science Bridge Officer station and console modification slots.
