Retribution Guide Part 3

Continued from Part 2...

Credits

This guide is designed for PVE. For PVP you'll want to talk to some of the other more skilled PVP Rets. Much of this guide will discuss preparing for heroics and starting Kara, but I will include some info for even the beginning Ret Pally.

First off I'd like to say thank you to several people who encouraged me to do this and helped to make it as useful as it is: Capjack of the Seven Seas, tommyguns (much of the formation of my opinions came from his posts), The RuenBahamut of Doom, Vaeliorin, Jornam

5.0 Gear List

This is not an end all gear list. This is a list of the gear you can get prior to Kara, and includes, as often as possible, (1) a piece that is relatively simple to get and preferably not chance based like quested, crafted or BoE world drops, (2) a piece that is still relatively simple to get but may take a little more farming like regular instance drops, Blue Rep items or PvP rewards, and (3) a better piece that is more difficult to get and may take better gear to even be able to farm like a heroic drop, heroic badge item, Epic crafted or epic Reputation item.

Getting a complete set from quested, crafted, or World BoE drops should be sufficient for being productive in Kara. Adding as many Epics as you can will improve your contribution to the raid, which is important since Ret pallies have been pretty unpopular for raids. You may not always be the top DPS in your raid, but properly specced and geared, you should be able to be at least competitive with the other dps.

Just a note: There are many other good items you could get, but as best I could I have put what I feel is the best on each category. If something else of similar quality drops feel free to use it. This list was compiled to give you several good options, not to be the only possible gear. Also note that I am only including plate gear, but there are also good mail/leather gear. The primary reason I've done this is because most mail/leather gear has AP and agi instead of strength and crit.

Season 3 Arena gear is probably the best Ret Pally gear you can get, especially pre-Kara. Any Vengeful Gladiator's Scaled gear or Vindicator's Scaled gear you can get will greatly boost your DPS and also your survivability in PvP since S3 is the first set of Ret Pally gear to have a decent amount of Resilience on it.
