Only if it was NO TRANSFERS

I can see what the legends server will be. 75% of people will be level 55+ clerics, fighters, and enchanters. 10% will be people with solo classes like druids or necromancers also of high level with uber equipment.. The other 15% will be people without characters or with low level ones who will be left in the dust. You know the dynamic quests will be targetted mainly at the uber cadre of level 60 players.

Also, lets say you are level 20 on the premium server. What could they give you as a reward that is better than what you could spend some coins and buy off a level 55?

This would be wonderful IF they said NO CHARACTER TRANSFERS... It would actually be enough for me to come back to EQ after my long abscence because all of the new GM attention and quests would be catered to the low level players at the beginning and a real storyline could be created.

This would be even better if not only did players start all at level one, but if you had to do say 5 dynamic quests to get level ten, 10 dynamic quests and one epic dynamic quest to get to level twenty, etc. This would not only make it such that a few powerlevellers wouldnt sprint up to 50 and move the content away from the main body of players, but it would also insure that the highest level players WERE the LEGENDS of the server. That they were people who were out doing things rather than camping one monster over and over again.

This is a wonderful chance to do a GOOD experiment... $10 per month is barely enough to keep the servers running, minimal support and some profit. If you up that to $40 now you have say $20 per month going to people who's sole purpose is to make your gaming experience better. Dynamic quests all over the place and actual GM input. $20x8000=$160,000 per month. That can hire about 100 people whose sole purpose is to create and administer dynamic quests...

One other thing that would be nice for such a server where everyone started from scratch would be if they significantly updated antonica and feydwer. I would want surprises all over the place.

I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am in Verant.

I, for one, will not be signing up for Legends. What should be happening is that they offer these same services to the rest of us on our home servers and then tell us that we'd have to pay 15 bucks instead of 10. They would have had me then.

    As far as expenses go...

Let's just say there are 100,000 EQ players to date (I know there are more, but bear with me). Each of us pays 10 bucks a month. Simple math: 1 mil bucks A MONTH! Where the hell is that cash going?

I, for one, am keeping my characters where my friends are on Lanys.

Maybe it is time to switch to the Dark Ages of Camelot?

Hey everyone, if you don't like it, don't play it. Its a luxury good for those willing to pay for it. I have been playing this game since 1999 as well and am very happy with my service. Just because they have a "first class" server doesn;t mean they are going to ignore the others. Everyone should just worry about themselevs and not complain. EQ has done more than ANY other online game I have ever played, and takes care of you better than you think. Next time you want to ***** about customer service go play AO or Dark Ages with the 10 GM's and 20 other players and get out off our boards

Easy for you to say, you have not been treated the way others have by customer service. True, every game has bugs, and im fine with that, am fine with all the "nerfs" understand they hadta be done and all, who cares, move on. But to try and talk to a GM is getting rediculous. GMs (on fennin ro at least) treat you like s**t, and hand out warnings like candy. If you so much as ask ONCE why you got the warning, you get another for "harrassment". It is truly rediculous, and very sad.
One GM will say there is NO camping, the next will give you a warning for trying to intrude with someones camp. I can truly understand how some people can be so upset about the level of CS when there is stuff like that going on.

My point is that yes, other games may charge more, but they have better CS than everquest. As i said, I would be very willing to pay an extra 5-$10 for better CS alone.

It was like that on rallos zek too. And I have noticed it now more on Tarew Marr cause of actual needing help, not just "this guy is exploiting me" stuff that is petitioned a million times a day. It's pitiful that gm's don't juse give rezzes to people that might seriously sound like they need help. Even if people try taking advantage of it, you will spot them real fast. I have needed help one time, and I am told then "we are sorry, this is an unknown bug." Well who in the hell tell's you about these bugs? I purely disbelieve you have your gm's running around dieing to monsters. If I controlled eq, and someone found me a bug, I would give em 10000p. No biggy, takes half a second, it's fake, helps my game to be better, helps me get people to stay, helps people for their trouble atleast.

Hell man it helps people look for bugs if there was a reward. Imagine if that was the case and you were treated with respect AND the bugs got FIXED...
EQ could have EASILY dominated the market for the next 4 years (im not joking) if they themselves has been loyal and understanding to their customers. Now its just a bunch of pissed of people tired of dealing with the same BS they deal with in RL everyday... I mean this is a game right im supposed to ENJOY ALL THE TIME I SPEND PLAYING RIGHT even when things go wrong.
I mean i have only been playing video games since pong, i doubt i have ANY idea what im talking about right?

I was very pissed when I heard what Verasnt was going to do. This morning I woke up with a different veiw. It kinda reminded me of when all there was , was standard TV. Then Cable and and others came out..they offered the same channels abut better service at a higher price. Now my Digital cable runs me more than my standard did ..but I am willing to pay for it since there is more gizmos.

However, I understand how the majority of the people feel since they should have focused ALL of the man power they had on delivering what they promised. THEN offered a LEGENDS server. Makes you wonder whats coming down the pipes from the competition for such a quick and bold move.

There's a HUGE difference... my Regular channels WORK the way they're supposed to, and standard TV still has fresh and exciting new shows to keep me entertained...

Think of it this way: Your favorite standard channel would shut off your TV (crash to Desktop), and shows that were supposed to be on never actually aired (promises, promises, promises)... then Cable comes out and says... pay more and we'll (supposedly) give you the stuff standard promised.... that's how I see it.

    RE: Making money
    # Feb 02 2002 at 2:41 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes, I agree that they need to make money, but think it is very wrong to try and ask 4 times the amount we are paying now to get what they promised us in the beginning.

Yes, we only pay 10 a month, and other games may cost a little more, up to 15 a month, but their customer service does exist!!
If they are complaining about how little they are charging, they should either bring out a server that is another $5 maybe $10, and increase the quality of CS. The GMs as it is now treat you very terribly. I would certainly pay an extra $5 or $10 a month for better customer service - for ANY customer service. Am sure I am not the only one who would do that, that is reasonable. Now, other games seem to be able to do it for less, but they may suffer elsewhere. Everquest is a great game.

And how many times do we call the cable company? Ya know, the majority of us dont even call YOU GUYS even ONCE!!! So dont go there, that is silly. It sounds like you are making excuses - anything to keep the angry crowd quiet. ha.

    Pros and Cons
    # Feb 02 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Decent
    Pros:

    1) The SuperUber will move off my server. That means Velk's, Sebilis, FG, and other 50+ zones won't be packed with 58+ AAS and loot farmers.

    Cons:

    1) This relates to my Pro; I'm not exactly in love with Norrath's voodoo economics, but without hi level loot farmers, that Stein of Mogguk is gonna run you 800pp again.

    2) Even less attention will be payed to standard subscribers. If that's possible. Right now, there are a maximum of TWELVE GMs in the Verant building... and they support ALL the servers.

    3) Those of us with "standard" accounts are now second class. If there's an identical complaint from the Cazic-Thule and Legends servers, you know which wheel's getting greased.

    4) Loots that will never appear on another server, and a finite number of applicants? What if every single one of us wanted to sign up for this freeway rapery?

Verant is a joke of a company. They did not make EQ a success, the players did - who are treated with total disdain. Sony recently replaced half of the team... why? Because Verant has gotten in the habit of thinking it's THEIR success. Sony will NOT be giving the EQ2 contract to them, and has recently refused to meet with Smedley. Five million dollars profit/month, and their CEO can't get a meeting.

Whatever, I'm rambling and pissed. To the Verant lackey who gets to read all this crap: I enjoyed my time in Norrath VERY much, and I'm sad to see you kill it this way.

Not that I like what they are doing with the legends server, but how exactly do you come by your numbers here? 12 GM's in the building? There are about 40 GM's at the moment (pre-legends hiring). And the vast majority of them work at the same time. Add that to the GM staff they are hiring on to replace people moving to legends and you have about 50 GM's.

And where they heck did you hear all this other stuff from? You have any sources for these wild rumors you are spreading, or are you just making them up as you go along?
    RE: Pros and Cons
    # Feb 03 2002 at 3:43 AM Rating: Decent
ok 40 GM employed and a VAST majority working at the same time ... what about those of us whom dont play during peak hours? I would say a vast majority would be AT LEAST 28 that would leave the other 12 at at least 1.2k peeps per server during off times. and they are hiring 10 new GM's for everyone on Legends to have their supperior CS? 10 GMs?
    Well, not exactly
    # Feb 02 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
Ok, everyone has already stated about how this is total bunk. But i hate to break it to everyone about how the high levels will all go off to this new server, cause they wont. At high end there is fierce competition for raiding in a few uber zones. If you think they are all gonna up and leave a server where there may be 3 guilds competeing to a server where there are like 10 guilds competing think again. I just hope the lure of new GM events to break the monotomy of raiding ToV over and over with loot good enough to warrent attending them and named itmes will help to make the first half of this post obsolete.

    /rant on

VI has managed to turn more than 400,000 paying customers into second-class citizens with the launch of ledgends. I wonder how long I'll put up with it before I find another company to pay.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if VI had actually fixed all their present problems, but to have so many persistent bugs, with new ones being added all the time, and knowing they are going to spend so much more time and effort ( that I am paying part of with my measy ten dollars a month ) on ledgends servers, means I am going to getting even less for my money.

Sure, they are a company, and thye exist to make money, but someone needs to figure out that keeping the VAST majority of your customer base happy will make you more money that having a small percentage of well-paying customers who are happy ( g/l on that! ) and a large number still annoyed at all the bugs you've never bothered to fix.....

I still find it funny that necro group-buffs stacking was important enough to create an emergency patch, but people crashing on velks zone in while having human-models on was not.

Bottom line, ledgends will suck coding hours away from bug-fixes, in a game with too many bugs that need to be fixed

    /rant off

I don't want to pay for ledgends, but I think that, even without paying VI an extra 30 dollars a month, I'll be paying for it anyways.

A couple years ago I played an RPG named 'DragonRealms' by Simutronics. It was a completely text-based role-playing game, but it was a very nice game for the price -- Free.

However, as time went on they discovered that it is expensive to run a game as expansive as it was. So they moved it from an AOL-based game to a general Internet-based game. And charged 10 dollars a month. I went along with that.

Later a 'Premium' service was launched. This gave certain players advantages over those that were not Premium. The price? An extra 20 dollars per month. Honestly, I disagreed with this new service. It makes no sense to separate the people willing to spend more money on the game from the others that just find it as a nice distraction from real life. I did not participate in the new service.

A few months later, DragonRealms 'Platinum' came out. An entirely new server, more GM interaction, a smaller, more closely-knit group of players -- A lot like what Legends is boasting. At its release, this new service was only 70 dollars a month.

    70 dollars a month. For a text-based RPG.

    Ludicrous.

Needless to say, I certainly didn't buy into that.

It's money. The Company sees something that has 50,000 (that's the statistic I see for EQ's population on some of these posts) people paying 10 dollars a month to play, and they wonder if they can't make them pay just a little more. If they can actually deliver what they promise, then more power to them. That's what Capitalism is all about -- Advertising and selling a product.

But I'm not going to contribute.

What it all comes down to is how much you want to spend on your own EQ experience. If this game is important enough to you to pay 40 dollars a month, go for it. Knock yourself out.

But if you don't want to pay 30 extra dollars, *you don't have to*.

I just hope Verant doesn't put all of their effort into Legends and neglects the 'regulars'.

We'll see how it turns out.
    RE: That's Capitalism.
    # Feb 02 2002 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
I'll be damned i played dragonrealms too and that premium thing seriously sucked. The good thing is legends will be its own server right? it's not like all these people with special advantages will be floating around on the common player's servers. I mean considering we get like zero customer service now... the other thing is only 8000 people are leaving, sure they'll be people who play everquest like 16 hours a day everyday probably, but i don't think anyone is really gonna notice a difference.

I feel that this server is an insult to all players. I don’t care about the silly web utilities, but about features(?)such as improved customer support. I don't think that the profit margin for EQ is so tight that Sony/VI can't afford to add a few more Guides to each server, or perhaps add a few developers to resolve the list of known issues. Guild halls? Those were a feature promised since the beta of the game. Sony/VI will assure us that they never "Promised" guild halls, but it was even printed in the manual for Ruins of Kunark, p.78: “Some of the larger player-created guilds may purchase halls as well”.
When is Sony/VI going to deliver the Bazaar player merchant system that they promised? Oops, they really didn’t “Promise” the Bazaar system…..they just told us that it was something that they were working on and weren’t able to deliver with the launch of Luclin. Never mind that a player merchant system would relieve player of one of the most boring, time consuming tasks in the game, buying and selling items. Never mind that a player merchant system would be a huge step to having a real “Market Based Economy”.

Believe it or not EQ isn't the first company to do something like this. A company named Simutronics created a few text based LARPG's and on all of them you could get premium membership for about 29 or 39 a month. What it basically allowed was you had special merchants, special areas, better XP, UNique Items, Better abilities. And you had y our own GM queue. so you got help ASAP. Flaw to this system was it was pricey and everyone was on the same server. So if a Premium member killed a regular member in a township. Instead of him getting banned he'd get a warning Vice versa = ban.
    This is a bad situation!!

Why exactly are they incapable of aking things better on the other servers? Does this mean the rest of us will start getting ****** customer support? Not like it's great now, but for $40 bucks I wouldn't blame anyone for demanding instant GM service, and the rest of us are going to pay the price in help times thanks to this crap... This is the dumbest idea since trivial loot... why only 8000 people? Because out of the hundreds of thousands or whatever they claim that play, only about 8,000 people have the money to throw away, ego, or downright stupidity to sign up for this... Thanks Verant, DAoC never looked better...

I find it hard to believe that anyone would seriously pay for this unless they have an inferiority complex. You are basically paying for features which you can either get free elsewhere or are suppose to exist previously. The only thing that is *NEW* feature would be the naming of items after the players involved. And unless you are really that desperate for people to see your name on something there isn't a reason to pay for it. I think they figure if you paid for the computer upgrade most people had to make just to keep playing the same old game then you will fork over the cash for this too. It is just a sign of the fall if you ask me. Having to pay extra for things that should be present in the game already makes me wonder how long the game is going to be running and updated.

Well, as seems to be the common thread here, I to do not see any advantage to "subscribe" to the new and wonderful "service" being offered by VI/SOE.

What, go to a server dominated by lvl 60 characters who are there simply so they can get there name on some "legendary" item? bah

I could support such a thing if there were no character moves at all, starting from scartch, no big league guilds running all over the lands and giving no one else a chance to do most of the interesting stuff.

If there are problems with people stealing camps and items now, wait until this goes live. Who knows, maybe this is Verants way to get the big guilds to a different server and have them fight it out amongst themselves.

Personally, I won't participate in something like this unless everyone is on equal starting ground.

I think they should break the 8000 down and divide them up into each of the servers. That was each server will have its "Legends". Additionally you must earn the right to be a Legend. According to some of the posts here a newbie could become a legend as long as he has the money to pay for the serivce. Bottom line is that it will be meaningless without the aspect of earning the title Legend. A point system could be devised where the top characters are offered the Legend system first. Then as they are declined characters farther down the chain are offered. Once again you have to earn it or its meaningless to yourself and the others that play the game. Remember, those others should be looking up to the "Legends" in their server not thinking, "Oh, those are the people with the extra $30 a month."

Hey ah, I've been playing EQ for something like 2 years, so if you have any questions, just send me a tell. Oh, and if you want a webpage with your character stuff on it, Allakhazam has that, and Geocities and many other places offer free websites. Or just ask me and I'll build one for you. And eqatlas.com has maps of everything ever visited in Norrath or Luclin. And if you want to know what zones you've visited, just write them down as you zone. If you want to know where you're bound, just type /charinfo. If you want EQ stories, just visit ANY eq site and i'm sure they have some great ones. If you're in a guild, most likely they have a website with calandars, guild members, etc...

what a good money scam this is, you figure

    50,000+ players at 10 bucks a month

buying the game it self with all expansion pact mabe 40 bucks or a lil more X 50,000+ players

50 bucks for a char transfer to a new server

and yet they want us to pay more.... AFTER they made us buy upgrades to our PCs just to play this stupid game.
the bottem line with this new scam is,

40 bucks = buggy game with new features
10 bucks = buggy game that probbly not see any new features as they where said to be out with Luclin.

I would consider signing up for this new and seemingly interesting service if it wasnt for the fact that the servers they have now have so many problems that they have to take them down every other day and do "emergency maintence". I say fix the existing problems then maybe think about doing something like this.
