Daybreak Games: Game Wide Maintenance

In a move designed to bring all Daybreak Games to a screeching halt, DBG announced this afternoon a GAME-WIDE general maintenance that will affect ALL of their games, including Everquest, Everquest II and the rest of their stable of MMOs.

Maintenance will begin Tuesday morning at 0-dark hundred (5:00AM PST), March 8th.  There is no ETA how long downtime should be expected; it varies depending on the game and service needed.  However, according to DBGs, if downtime extends for more than four hours, check the official game forums for an updated message.

This general maintenance will likely impact the following DBG services across all games:

  • Game Logins for all Daybreak Games
  • Forum and Web logins for all Daybreak Games *
  • Commerce and Account Management for all Daybreak Games.

Because this is a non-game specific maintenance, there will be no patch notes available.

(*yeah, so good luck checking the official forums for extended downtime)

poorly-run game - try Zynga's Mafia Wars. Argh. Worth every penny I don't pay to play it.
Negative much?

Is it me or does this come across as being hateful? Is a company not allowed to update their system? It sounds like they needed to update something on the main system, not just bring all games to a halt to upset its players.

Maybe there is issues general public does not need to know such as security issues, what the problem was and how they fixed it. I for one am grateful they do fix issues like that. I would rather see a company working to try to do something to better the games and provided a safer environment for its players.

At least they did this in early morning hours when majority of people are not playing.

I have been around Norrath since the opening of Kunark many years ago. I may not agree with everything Day Break or SoE has done in the past, but I have not been one to bash them either.

So lets just suck it up, put our big girl pants on, and just all get along!!

Most competently run software companies have scheduled down times or particular hours when they do maintenance. Also most companies do not just take their entire systems offline for hours with less than a 24 hour notice. If it was a 1 time shot then I would say maybe there was some serious security breach, but when it occurs on a regular basis, it really is that daybreak either is incompetent or does not care about its customers. I know of no other software company that runs like daybreak that stayed in business for more than a few years. The real problem is players like yourself that accept shoddy customer service, shoddy support and poorly released expansions. Daybreak knows that many players are like yourself and will take whatever they give you as long as eq is still alive.

Nah, it's you bubba. Not hateful at all. Sarcastic? Maybe. However pointing out the irony that players are told of to log into forums to check for an updated downtime, and yet the forums will be down due to the maintenance, is just pure... irony.

But no, no hate.

Actually it says to check the forums for updates. Only the login to forums was affected, and to read the forums you do not have to login.
