Rumors Swirl on EQ2

In the recent EQ newsletter, Sony put in a puzzle that led to two websites: www.nektulos.com and www.wailingcaves.com. (Congratulations to the gang at the safehouse for solving the riddle). Each site brings up an image and the Nektulos one mentions an announcement coming up in May. May is of course when E3 is held. This is the biggest gaming convention of the year, and game companies typically try to save their biggest announcements for the large group of press that comes to E3 each year. So what is Sony going to announce in May? It may be something like a single player game based upon Everquest, or the release of some new zones. However, do not be surprised if it is the launch of Everquest 2. I don't have any positive information on this and am really just speculating, but since they already announced the PS2 version of the game and the Planes of Power expansion, it seems logical that this is not related to either of them. Why make a teaser for something everyone already knows about? And they have never put this type of effort into announcing free content for the game. EQ2, however, would be a huge announcement. In addition, I have been told that the latest version of PC Gamer mentions EQ2 (I have not read it -- I'll try to track down a copy). Plus, Sony has had www.everquest2.com registered for quite a while. So the announcement Sony plans to make in May could well be that they are making EQ2. Or they could just be announcing another expansion or something related to the PS2 version of the game or even something completely unrelated to Everquest. We will be in Los Angeles for E3, so as soon as we find out more, we'll let you know. In the meantime, some of our visitors managed to piece together the murky pictures you see in the two sites.

well sounds like someones jealous at Verant.
almost sounds a bit like DAoC, they frown on the twinkies and if you use a weapon thats not too your lvl well it just broke.
course it doesnt take that long to be a certain class on DA's. what gives there. lvl 200? dont even think D&D ever went that high either. oh well, guess they thought it would stop ppl from leaving after 60.
oh and now your gonna have mobs after you from zone to zone. guess the ole' /q better come in handy then-hot key anyone.
well, guess ill be stuck on EQ1 till it goes extinctd.

When someone signs up, it should not automatically default their posts to 'decent' grade over 'default' like anon people.

I know it's a perk of beign a member and all, but it degrades the value of the rating system horribly.

BTW What do the GameMaster guilds like FoH have to say about all this? Are they just toeing the party line or what?
    No Twinking?
    # Apr 24 2002 at 4:51 PM Rating: Default
    This is so retarded...

To all you folks who ***** about twinking, what the hell is wrong with you? Does it REALLY bug you so bad that some folks play more then you and get higher level so use it to help their alts? that they flood the market with items which brings YOUR prices down?

You know, i get the feeling that folks ******** about twinking must be some loud minority, because i don't know a single other player who has a character over the level of 30 who does not twink.

Hell, i left DAoC and came back to EQ just BECAUSE of this communist crap.

If someone is willing and able to spend the time to raise to a higher level and get a cool item, and they want to give it or money or whatever to an alt, LET THEM.

How does it ruin your game any? What your upset that the tank in your group can hit harder and take more hits? Your upset cause your Wizard DD's more and your Cleric takes longer to die if he gets agg? That your Druid can AoE and DS like mad?

No, what your pissed about is that someone else has more then you. That is pathetic.

Verant take a clue. Many players stay in your game and don't switch BECAUSE WE LIKE IT.

If you make this like DAoC then guess what, i might as well leave and go to them because Mythic already has 10x the customer support and respect you ever did.

On top of that why this need to have items that degrade? to 'spur' the economy? My god, i know, lets take a game thats fun, and see how many ways we can make it tedious!

Why the hell did they not only have to copy DAoC, but they had to copy the worst aspects of DAoC.

i think this will be great finally a true economy..you cant have input into an economy without consumption....at least not a healthy one
finally a reason to do trades

as far as loseing invested time.. that is a very odd way of thinking supposedly you have enjoyed the game so you already got a return on investment..

anyway i think this is going to be eq with a good number of the bullcrap removed..

    time will tell
Planes of Power and Price Increase?
    # Apr 24 2002 at 4:44 PM Rating: Default
    WTF... think about this too...

Their INCREASING our monthly rate for what? To increase our EQ1 service?

HELL NO. That price increase your paying now to play EQ1 is being used to fund R&D on EQ2.

So kiss your extra 3 bucks or so a month goodbye cause it isn't being used to help you.

A what about planes of power? Ow Ow Ow I know! I'm gonna shell out money for an expansion for a game thats gonna be rendered obsolete as soon as EQ2 comes out and they can reduce service to EQ1!

Actually this will be hitting the market well over a year from now and at least a year from POP.

I think I could use some new material for my game in that time, but if you don't need it then simply don't buy it and wait for EQ2.

This is assuming that EQ2 comes out on time...
    verant vs daoc etc...

if i wanted to play DAoC i would but seems Verant is insisting on it.
    What i said before
    # Apr 24 2002 at 4:39 PM Rating: Default
I'm just gonna repeat what i said early this mourning.

Think long term on this. Verant is basically saying (if this is true) all our EQ1 time will be wasted. They are NOT going to keep updating it indefinetly like Luclin led us to believe.

What THAT means is, AND THINK ABOUT THIS...

Eventually EQ2 will be old... then EQ3... then EQ4... etc...

And all they had to do was make a system that would be compatible enough to at least allow conversions.

Basically they're setting themselves up to obsolete everything you do in any of the other games they release.

    DAoC or AO anyone?

In the computer world things become old and obsolete fast. The computer I bought a year ago 1.3ghz is already getting a little rough around the edges though it is still a good computer.

EQ1 was obsolete 2 years ago. It just made a large player base and people are unwilling to leave their friends behind. Luclin helped a little but the game is still running with the old engine.

The games are not "made" to be obsolete. They are just working with the technology they have at the time and making the game runnable on normal everyday computers.

Personally I think the requirements on EQ2 seem to be very low. I would have thought 1.0 to 1.5ghz system and 512 to 1g of ram would have been more in line.

Who knows how long its going to be til the game is actually released?

I like the idea of PC's being able to build "settlements" and being able to level higher and then choose the class, not to mention the added realism of needing horses to carry lots of items; but f**k the idea of having to start all over, and what seems to be eliminating all the features of the expancions. However, i am going to try it before i judge it. But still, getting rid of some races of classes is a(state the obvious) very bad idea to me.
    I hope EQ2 does not replace EQ1

If I wanted to play UO or DAoC I would play those games. I love eq as it is. I am one of the few people that have no real problems with the game. One of the biggest reasons I like it is that items dont decay, that I dont have to micromanage my characters. I give them a weapon and some armor and go play, not worrying about if I need to fix my armor soon, or get a new sword because this one is starting to show wear. Plus, twinking is important to the game. If I wanna make a new character, I wanna level him as fast as possible so I can group with all the people I play with on my main, hence twinking. I dont want to level grind for another three months to get up to where my main is, just because I am tired of the class. I think verant is being a little reactionary here. I dont plan on trying EQ2, and will stay with EqClassic, and SWG. Thats my 2 cents.

The images look cool but folks remember the images that where posted for Luclin. LMAO think or better yet go back and read all the posts, promised features, and computer specs. The big day came and oops sorry players but our specs are off. New graphics engine LOL. VI realized that most players owned obsolete machines and can not handle the superior graphics they promised. Hehe.
Oblivious of the promises made to the players, VI began to quitely obscure the fact that Luclin would never live up to all the advertisement. Luclin = cabbage patch. It is obscenely obvious to me that EQ2 is and attempt to correct a fail Luclin expansion. Well, that is my 2cp.

And I know you were all waiting for me to pipe up...

I think Verant paid Origin for the rights to develop a game almost identical to what Ultima Online 2 was supposed to be.

Origin was going to have zoning monsters, stunning 3d graphics, gradual character specialization, emphasis on player trades, experience debt, and of course plots of land w/ development options.

Sound familiar? That would also be my guess as to why Verant recently jacked up the price of EQ, and why it opened Legends (cause come on, lets face it, a few more zones and items don't cost more to maintain, they just run it through a few templates)...

I would have rather played UO2. I like Origin. Origin loves you. Verant hates you.

I like the idea of what you are saying but I think that it is actually more along the lines of Shadowbane that looks like it will never be coming out.
I mean I like the ideas they have and everything about what i am hearing but I think verant really should have tried to improve upon EQ before releasing EQ2.
Being a die hard fan I will probably by EQ2 when it comeout in 2003 but that is still along ways off and anything could happen.
I mean Shadowbane was suppossed to be out the same time EQ was out than they pushed it back so I am not going to hold my breath that Verant makes the schedule relase time.
the only thing I wonder about is since you have to repair your items does that mean everyone has to learn smithing???? LOL
I like the emphasise they are putting on the trade skill i think that is one of the things that really impressed me about EQ was the fact that I could add that kind of depth to my character. This just lets me add even more.
Now for all of us whiners out there if you do not want to buy the game that is fine no one is holding a gun to your head but pls do not whine if others are interested in it. Remeber this is a free country and what I want to do is my bussiness as long as it does not hurt anyone else.

Why does everyone have such a frigging hardon for tradeskills?? Do you people think its fun to come home from work only to have to work in a non-existant world? ***** that. I wanna kill dragons. I don't want my swords to break or my staves to splinter while I'm fighting.

Verant has gone retarded, and they're trying to take us with them.

    Where exactly was this list of features acquired from? It seems like either;

    A) Sony is making a hideous mistake and combining EQ, DAOC, and Ultima Online into one more project of perpetual patches.

    B) Someone is playing a prank

The reason why I bought Everquest was because it was different from the other games such as Diablo or DAOC and such. It sounds a little interesting, but the idea of running to zone from monsters is that you dont die! Now that they can come through the zones, you will have a even bigger chance of dying and the way its looking you will also lose one item. The idea of buying horses and boats to travel around with makes Everquest now sound difinantly more realistic and you cant put items in one bank then go to another to pick them up. Buying plots of land to build structures such as wedding halls or Guild Halls sounds really interesting, but to change the whole game to turn it into some "realistic" game doesnt sound like my cup of tea :)

You make valid points, but it appears that the concept of EQ2 is to have a whole new game. If they don't just trash EQ and try to make us all buy the new game, fine. I don't think that is their intent. I still have too much to do in the current EQ. But if they want to sell a new game to a different audience, more power to them. Its called capitalism, folks, and is no different than someone in game trying to sell an item for as much as they can get.

Looks great, I think it's a spoof of of something like UO in its golden age and perhaps DAoC...But that makes no sense since DAoC is a copy of EQ, and a bad one at that. ^.^ Anyhow, looks great, I will be the first in line, :P

Well it looks good. It sounds intresting.
I think it will be worth 50 bucks to try out for a free month.
I love the item decay idea, it really pushes tradeskill value up (hopefully)
I hope leveling is the same.

But i think most ppl miss this point, i think over time we have all become not only attached to EQ, and our guilds, but to norrath, and its people. I think it will be blast to see what s new...and whats not.

Goodbye, EQ. It's been fun. I'm never getting this... this... SCHNITZEL. Good graphic, whoopdy beavery doo. Nomore Vah Shir? Good job on wasting thousands of man-hours that will be destroyed even after it is complete. Less classes... EQ was about customization through classes. FP was dumb anyway though. Where am I going to get 512 megs of ram? Of course, I hope this game isn't popular. I like original EQ. WHY RELEASE PLANES OF POWER WHEN YOU'RE KILLING THE PRODUCT? You're driving a stake into the wallet of this consumer, Verant. Maybe they'll overcharge like they did Legends............. :P. Hey, I've got console and Starcraft, and now I can waste 13 more dollars monthly!

If you ask me, this is going to be a flop.

LMAO EQ2 thats a joke. It appears that that all the hype about Luclin was just hype. Hmm... think VI can actually keep a promise. oh, I forgot that is what the price increase was for. LOL they couldnt think of anything orginal. EQ2 a revamp of an old game. How much is EQ2 going to cost gamers?
    EQ2 will be destroyed

Unless they have some sort of limit on the ammount of housing that can be placed *which doesn't sound like*, it will turn into UO, where the entire world looks like one huge suberb.

Personally I'll be to into SB and the pvp it offers. Not to mention ACTUAL conquest of player cities. *DAoC is such a bluebie game* Finally the old UO mentality will be back, and mabye some bluebies will actually grow a backbone and join with me and my comrades to start an empire in SB.

OH wait this topic is on EQ2? oh ya, lol EQ2 will suck.. nuff said.

Hi ,i think this sound kinda good, guilds is they r included will be able to have there fortresses, GM events revolving round attacking eachothers fortress, the idea of buying boats that carts sounds good, i hope thy will not be like horses now, things that only the amazeingly rich can buy. ther will be army size guilds who have there own navys/ mounted cavalry and smiths, forging the weapons for the guild

BUT this is what i expect to happen, god i cant wait
