Back in the day enchanters used to go the newbie zones drop an object like a coin or a sword on the ground and then cast minor illusion on themselves and then pick up the object. The chanter upon casting the spell would turn into object they had dropped. They would then wait until the newbies came along and enjoy the reactions when they tried to pick up "object." If they were transformed into a sword they could spin around just before the newbie came too close and many times they would back off in fear. The abilty to do this is no longer in the game.

Another prank that I used to do when Luclin was new was in the tunnel leading to Fungus Grove. There was a lot of traffic along this long tunnel when the expansion was new. There are these objects (not mobs) in the tunnel that look like pink sea urchins with tentacles. They would root lower level players for a few seconds. I would go to a bend in the tunnel where some of these tentacle urchins where and cast minor illusion and I would turn into a HUGE and I mean HUGE version of one these that could spin around waving its tentacles with great menace. Players running back from FG would turn the corner and come face to face with a huge "named" monster. I cannot tell how fun this was. Many turned and ran away and many froze in fear. Then they would all realize what was going on, some quicker than others and they would get a big kick out of it.

Chanters on Vallon were wicked back in the day, because they could charm people...I remember a Erudite chanter named Masque who would come to Nek and on several occasions charm the Sk in our group and he would kill us...chanters were the absolute best pvp class...:)

One area of the game which evokes a slight remaining flavor of the "Old School" mystery and uncertainty are tradeskills. I have been getting into levelling some of them on assorted alts of mine and it still requires a lot of research, experimentation and talking with more advanced tradeskillers, most of whom are very generous with their time and "trade secrets' (considering how much work they all put into becoming masters) to learn where to get recipes and components and what's the most efficient path for improving one's skills. For instance I just learned recently that "vegetables" can now be "made" from vendor-available components. I recall in the early days components like vegetables, fruits and eggs were always a roadblock to skill advancement since you couldn't buy them from any vendors and you had to either invest considerable time pharming grey mobs for the drops (or---ugh---foraging) or hope to be able to buy them from other players. That was somewhat doable in the old days when low levels would be happy to pharm eggs and forage veggies to make a little coin. A lot less so today since plat and the gear usually bought with plat are so readily available even at lower levels.

One tradeskiller told me that a few years ago a developer accidentally added some sort of egg to a vendor's "infinite" supply. Eggs are needed to make egg batter which is used in hundreds of important baking recipes. He said it got detected quickly but some players had already bought thousands of eggs. He didn't recall if Sony confiscated or nerfed those eggs (turn them all empty LOL)

I had something similar happen to me in Crushbone once upon a time.('05?)

I had gone up there to get the SBS from the trainer. At the ZL, I aggroed an centurion thinking I'd just plow through him on the way in.

Nope. I hit and hit and hit ad nauseum before I brought him down.

Some wise guy had givern him the pet HP belt.

That pet belt actually buffs a mob?? Considering those are summonable for the cost of a little mana by any mage a wicked nasty trick would be to give one to every mob in some noobie zone, like Crescent Reach, which still has a lot of activity on most servers. Not that I would do something mean like that!

I wonder if you could charm a mob and give him that belt? I will have to test this...

**** Tested with druid charm of animals. Does NOT work. You CAN loot the belt back from the animal's corpse but it has no evident effect on the animal's HPs, whether charmed or after charm has broken. Evidently only works on "regular" summoned pets, not charmed pets.

I do want to break out my enchanter later and test if the type of mob makes a difference. After all, bats, snakes and lions can't really "wear" a belt...

Some of the old zones have cat pictures hidden within them.

At the start of Kaesora if you see through the right wall with help of shrink or an illusion spell, you can find one of them.

There's also a random texture in Great Divide containing some sort of serial numbers, you can find this texture looking through the left wall of Thurgadin's entrance just past the waterfall.

I used to love it when you could give mobs items. I remember killing a decaying skeleton on my SK in Nektulos and getting a fine steel longsword someone had given it. This was back when a fine steel longsword was something useful.

That EQ used to have a /pizza command. When entered this would open a browser menu that would connect to your local pizza chain (I think it was Pizza Hut?). So you could order pizza while playing EQ and never had to leave the game!

Btw I'm now a 180lb bodybuilder so that didn't effect me at all

When Greater Faydark was still used all the time, we used to hold Drunken Newbie Races where people gathered at the top of Kelethin, drank mead until completely drunk and tried to race down to the bottom of kelethin using a lift... fun times.

I believe you used to have to be on that wizard spire in Nektulos Forest in order to zone up to Plane of Hate... and I was once on a 5 hour corpse recovery mission in PoHate because people ignored instructions and sat down as soon as they zoned in.

Wizards first got an AE teleport spell (forget what it was called), that required no accept button from a player to be teleported.. they'd use it in the old Bazaar and put a hundred people in a dog pile that took forever to get out of.

I remember that!

Semi related, back in the day I spent many seasons extracting coins and fine steel weapons from the Rangers at the Druid Ring in the Commonlands of Man. I would stay there until I could barely walk from the load of coins at which point would I open a Gate to Neriak Commons to bank my treasures and sleep in my own bed, if only for a night, before returning the Ring.

My bulging coin purse was how I knew it was time to rest.

I used to change coin for a small fee as well, and also (mostly) in LOIO. I also made a small bundle selling the Fier'Dal sewing kits, and these had 10 slots way back before the more common ones existed (or am I thinking of Deluxe Sewing Kits? I can't be sure!).

Fun memories, goes back almost 13 years :)
