agree. i have not purchased any of the darkness line after dooming. mana better spent on dots and with the AA snare i probably have seved a few thousand k no getting the upgrades.
When to still use non-AA darkness

I still use non-AA darkness when I'm going to aggro kite 2 mobs at the same time that you can't pull singly (i.e., enhanced steamsuits in Fort Mech). I usually cast the non-aa darkness on the first one, then switch to the 2nd and drop the AA darkness on it. I do this to allow instant recasting of snare to get the 2nd one before it enters melee range.

However, it seems that the AA darkness doesn't overwrite normal darkness, so make sure you kill the one you "real" darkness'd first if you aim to have the mob snared at all times while spending the least mana.
why ?

why spend plat on this now that there is an aa snare ? ... maybe I should reread the description, perhaps I missed something.

I agree. The only factors I can think of why to buy this:

1) It does damage the AA does not
2) Lasts longer

I have not bought this spell. For this expansion I have only bought two spells from merchants with one of those being the 82 pet. I have been waiting for the drops and this is one of those spells. I still use my previous snare and the AA snare in the "Oh S#$T" situtations.

The AA snare is zero mana and does have a fast cast timer. Those are the benefits over the spell line.
