That seems like a bug and you should mark it as such in-game.

I think this recipe is no longer valid, for the necro version of the spell. I combined the ingredients of:
Arcane Thickener
Fine Runic Vellum
Ink of Pain
Luclin's Ink Additive
Quill of the Arch lich
These now make the level 70 Necro spell Death Rune.
Again they do NOT make Desolate Undead, they combine to make Death Rune now. I have not found any combine that makes Desolate Undead, but with the cost of Fine Runic Vellums as high as it is right now, there is little room for testing...
