Another good place for the Infected Rat Livers is the Paineel newbie zone. Kill pack rats until undead rats spawn. The undead rats can drop up to 4 livers at a time. On handing in the combined Air Tight Box to Larkon in Ak'Anon: Larkon Theardor says 'Whew!! What smells of rotting disease? Oh.. It's you. I see you've gathered all the diseased livers. does anyone post anymore to this or look at it? If so, I am trying to do the infected rat quest and Fodin won't give me the box and tells me to leave. Is this quest still working?

Will take a look at it tonight and let you know. It might be that you do not have enough faction, to begin with, to do the quest. You might consider killing Minotaurs for their horns to raise this faction.

Me..you know..me..i um traveled 2 tha place of my cousins in Misty Thickket n i saw tons of wats and they all diseased and ugly wats do they drop 2 the livers?
U know my bag was bloody yuk. livers got some stinkie blood on em..yuk. i had to buy 2 back packs full of stinkies hehe but i sold those bags dont want nothing good in those stinkies..hehe

When I turned in the combined livers box, not only did Larkon give me exp and money, he also gave me a worn great staff. Though the delay is horrible for only 6 dmg, it sells for about 3 plat. Infected livers drop off any rat. A much better way to get money would be to focus on collecting plague rat tails, they sell for 1.5 pp each. They also drop of all rats, but more commonly, infected rats.

I did this quest before all the Luclin nonsense began and the infected rat livers were always no drop. Now there are many different types of rats that drop infected livers that are not no drop. Will the non-no drop livers still work?

everytime i try and start the quest, they say I'd be better suited to help the library by getting minataur horns, that that would gain me membership into the library, BOTH npc's that are supposed to be part of the quest, can anyone tell me how to get this dumb quest started?
Forget starting with Larkon, his start was broken long ago. Go to Fodin just outside Ak'Anon. Say "Larkon sent me." and he will hand you the airtight box. Fill it and take it to Larkon.
I con apprehensive to Larkon, but he gave me gold and exp. for the horns anyway (2 at a time). Faction hits where:

The Dead - worse
Gem Choppers - better
King AkAnon - better

I thought this quest was not that hard and great exp, almost a full yellow at Lvl 4. Skip going to Larkon at the beginning (he doesnt seem to respond to the clean job) and just use his name with Fodin. The airtight box, in addition to being part of the quest, also is very useful as a carrying case esp at this low level. Then hunt away in the valley to the left of the entrance. The infected rats, though not the most common nor the easiest MOB there, are around enough and drop the liver frequently for you to complete this in a couple of hours. And these are productive hours as well, as when you cant find an infected rat, there are plenty of other things to kill and get exp. Very good quest for low levels.

Well this is odd, because I am reading all about Steamfront and whatnot, and I have been getting these infected rat livers in Paineel. I get them from "undead rats" while I am travelling between the Toxullia Forest and the Warrens- although they con green, they attack me. And they are very easy to kill, but they leave me with infected rat livers. I came to this site to find out what to do with all (3 or 4) of them but I don't even know what continent these places you people talk about are on! Anyway I'm level 8 so I get the impression that it wouldn't help me much, but I would like to know if it is hard to get from Tox Forest to these places.

There is also a cleric quest for infected rat livers in Paineel.. No need to go to Ak'anon as they probably wouldn't like you anyway

I tried to say "the clean Job" to Larkon and nothing happened. The key phrase on Veeshan atleast is "the Clean Task". I found it by telling him he had lost his mind. I sure hope they fix it so when you cam the livers don't disappear. Otherwise I'm giving up on htis wuest for something else. But I do need the money.

Be sure to store these livers below your food slot. YOU WILL EAT THEM! I was wondering why I had looted 4 of them, then at the end of the night went to camp, and only had 2. Confirmed this with a guildmate.
So, place them in a bag after your food bag. (place food in slot 7, and livers in slot 8).

This is a nice quest because you get a free 10 slot box to store other quest items in... I keep mine in the bank and use it to store odds and ends including "words", sadly you can't store spells in this box. Anyway - if you want to do the quest the best way is to hunt the "a female rat" who drops an infected liver about 80% of the time and more importantly, immediately spawns "a diseased rat" in the same place who ALSO drops a liver 80% of the time. Best of all, the female rat is a rapid spawn and spawns in the same area all the time.

Whenever I talk to Larkin, all I ever get is the prompt for the the Basilisk Tongue or the other quest. Whenever I try to talk to Fodin (at least, with the phrase "Larkon sent me", I never get any response at all.
This is on the one of the new "green servers" -- Tholuxe Paells -- so, maybe that has something to do with it? Has this quest been removed? If so, killing the infected rats is a total waste of time...

I got 3/4 of a bubble for turning the box in when I was 4th level.
Once I turned 5th level, however, I only got about 1/4 bubble. The Infected Rats are still blue to you at 5th level, so it's not like you're going out of your way to kill them for the quest...but for me it wasn't worth the time to collect the livers once I made 5th.

I found a problem with the box also. If you store the livers you find inside the box they will disappear if you camp or if you get killed. If you store the livers in anything else they are safe...

Be careful that you don't accidentally eat the infected livers. Put the box in a lower spot in your inventory below your normal food.
