You say, 'I am a follower of Karana.' Runethar Hamest says 'So you are one with our cause? This is good. Be aware that there are forces at work which not even the Qeynos Guard can keep at bay. We are here to spread the words of Karana and smite those who should try to end His children. We and Antonius Bayle shall work together in our destruction of evil. He requests our aid. Do you also [wish to assist Lord Bayle]?' You say, 'I wish to assist Lord Bayle.' Runethar Hamest says 'Then we command you to assist the Qeynos Guard with the destruction of Blackburrow. Report to Captain Tillin of the Qeynos Guard and speak with him of the [gnolls of Blackburrow]. I believe he is at the arena. My loyal friend, if you have earned your Thunder Staff, I urge you to [retrieve the Bayle list].' You say, 'How do I retrieve the Bayle list?' Runethar Hamest says 'Well, friend, the Temple of Thunder has recognized and appreciates your past deeds for us. But this matter is of vital importance to us and we need more proof of your devotion to our cause.' You need high warmly with Knights of Thunder to progress past this point. Runethar Hamest says 'The Temple of Thunder was asked by Antonius Bayle to retrieve a list. He does not trust his own militia of late. He asked me to send a knight to the Jaggedpine to find a man named Frenway Marthank. When you find him, you are to tell him that [Toe needs the Bayle List]. Return the Bayle List and your Thunder Staff to me and I shall provide a fine reward. Be aware that the shadowknights of Bertoxxulous are also after the list. Be careful!' Head to Surefall Glade and find Frenway Marthank in the Druids' Guildtree. You say, 'Toe needs the bayle list' Frenway Marthank says 'The Bayle List is gone. It lies inside the belly of that beast, Mammoth.' You say, 'Who is Mammoth?' Frenway Marthank says 'Mammoth is the great bear which inhabits the caves. It was he that swallowed my son whole. My son was using the scroll case as a play sword when Mammoth approached. I know you need the list but my vows as a Protector of the Pine forbid me to harm the bear. Help me ease my pain. Kill Mammoth and bring me his hide. You will find the list inside the beast.' If you can find and slay Mammoth, you will get the list. There are more than a few people in Surefall Glade who will strike you down for attacking the bears, so be very careful. Alternately, give Mammoth the Regurgitonic and he will cough it up for you. Return the list and Mammoth's Hide to Frenway and he will in turn give you the Bayle List II. Frenway Marthank says 'It is not right to feel satisfied at the sight of Mammoth's hide, but I do. Thank you, ______.' Your faction standing with Protectors of Pine has been adjusted by 5. Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk has been adjusted by 1. Your faction standing with Sabertooths of Blackburrow has been adjusted by -1. Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos could not possibly get any better. You gain experience!! Once you have the Bayle list II, you need to get the Thunder Staff. You can get this by doing the good version of the Drosco the Zombie quest. He will give you the Thunder Staff. Take that and the Bayle list II back to Runethar, and he will reward you with your very own Bonethunder Staff. Runethar Hamest says 'I thank you, but before I reward you I must have both the Bayle List II and your Thunder Staff.' Runethar Hamest says 'Antonius Bayle will be pleased. The Temple is also pleased. Here is the enchanted staff we call Bonethunder. Should you find the enchantment gone, just ask Kasine to [enchant Bonethunder]. We need more disciples like you! Go forth to tell the world of the Rainkeeper.' Your faction standing with Knights of Thunder has been adjusted by -50. Your faction standing with Bloodsabers has been adjusted by 50. Your faction standing with Priests of Life has been adjusted by -37. Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos has been adjusted by -37. You gain experience!! If you go to Kasine Paedra and say "enchant Bonethunder" to her, you see this: Kasine Paegra says, 'If you wish the power of the Rainkeeper to once again whine upon your weapon, you must hand me Bonethunder and 500 Gold Coins.' Note that there doesn't seem to be much point in this as the weapon has unlimited charges; however, if you give her the weapon and 500 gold coins, you see this: Kasine Paedra says, 'I am ordered to only enchant the spell when I have both Bonethunder and 500 gold coins.' Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

I am a very loyal Knight of Thunder and seek this staff merely as a trophy of achievement and for a little RP. I have warmly faction at 12 and have turned in about 50 sashes and still Runethar claims that I haven't proven myself worthy of returning the list yet.

I have heard that faction must be high warmly. I was warmly, but the honorable Runthar was kind enough to give me the entire quest.
In my life, I have done the following things to alter my standing with Qeynos:
* Rabid pelts to Priestess Cahlria (NQ cleric guild. UFO)
* 4 Bone chips to Lasun Novashine
* 4 GP to Lasun Novashine
* Killed many, many bandits over 10 seasons time.
* Bandit sashes to Chesguard in SQ paladin guild.
The best to improve faction seem to be bandit sashes and rabit pelts. Bones and gold does not seem to impress these humans that much.
Also, try doing the Shining Star of Light quest. Tis for great Paladin/Cleric only 1hb 6/28 Procs Cleanse...is a North Qeynos quest. One I was able to do this quest, the Bonethunder staff did not require any faction building. Both are on same faction.

I am a 26th lvl HE Palidan. I am warmly faction to Knights of Thunder and I still can not get Runethar Hamefist to provide me with the Bayle List. Everytime I state that I will retrieve the Bayle list, I receive a message that I have not proven myself worthy. I have spent 4 days getting my faction up this high with them and still no go. I have completed the Thunder Staff quest, yet I can not get the rest of the quest from Runethar. I will go kill more bandits this weekend and see if I can get High Warmly with the KoT. Just an FYI if ye have difficulties finding drosco, Enter the catacombs under the docks, and then follow the right wall and it takes you to the Hex room where drosco is. Will post again with what I had to do to get the faction up higher.

The Bonethunder staff is 9d 2hbash 3wis, if i remember right. Pal, Clr only. Comes with *1* charge of ward undead... and to recharge it, you have to pay 500 gold. that's 50 plat, for a spell that the only classes that can use it get as part of their first set.
Do this quest if you need the faction... otherwise pass it up.

Bonethunder Staff has since been changed:) 3 patches ago (mid september) it was fixed thanks to all the support behind the woodwork petition!:D

Woot! Glad to hear that! I actually once paid the NPC the 500gp to recharge the staff, because i couldnt believe it was really just 1 charge that they'd put back on....but they did. One charge of ward undead for 50 plat, lol.
Glad people petitioned, it was hard enough to do this quest, getting the faction and all... 8)
