This task is the first of two tasks offered by Dark Alchemist Illian at approximate location 1200, 145 in the Feerrott.
You say, 'Hail, Dark Alchemist Illian' Dark Alchemist Illian appears engrossed in his work and takes a few moments of measuring a concoction before he speaks. 'I'd like to think you're here because you have a true [interest] in what I'm doing, but I highly doubt that.' The Teir`Dal turns to look at the _____ who addressed him, and noting the battle-worn and magic-imbued armament, frowns slightly. 'I see.' You say, 'I do have a true interest...' Dark Alchemist Illian hmphs. 'I don't believe you.' He gently sets the materials down before intently staring back at his inquirer. 'I am Illian and I was, for lack of a better word, "hired" by the local Oggok leadership to try to resolve the [issue] of the [undead rising], bloated, from their watery graves... for vengeance.' Mockingly, his hands come up like a spread of stiff boogeyman claws, mouthing 'Ooooh', then punctuates the point with a roll of his eyes. You say, 'What about the undead rising?' Dark Alchemist Illian gives an extra moment's regard to the inquiry before replying. 'Perhaps you have an interest after all. The undead zombies who roam the swampy forest of the Feerrott are not natural undead. In fact, it's quite difficult to find natural undead, but that is beside the point. No, these men and women were quite [unlucky].' You say, 'Unlucky?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'Well, they certainly weren't "lucky" to get in that state, were they?' He smirks, and looks down to one of his containers, tapping at a vial filled with an orange powder. 'They were a human expedition, a small smattering of tree-elf half-elves thrown in. A twist of fate led them a bit too far [south] for their own good.'' You say, 'What's wrong with the south?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'South? Well, besides the Temple of Cazic-Thule and the eerie presence at the source of the river? Based on where the explorers are now making themselves at home, it's hypothesized the source of their new existence is a rather interesting tribe of scaly Thulians, the Alliz Tae Ew. Oh, but not purposefully. No, that point is quite an [accident].' You say, 'An accident?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'If it is as we believe, they weren't quite as delicious as the little cannibals had hoped, or just that the explorers were used as simply a ritual gift in reverence to some queen of reptiles or the God of Fear himself. Either way, in the end, they were dumped in the river rather unceremoniously and left there to literally [rot] by a group known for their shamanism, but not terribly known for their necromancy.' You say, 'Rot?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'Well, they did rot, and are rotting, but those unfortunate humans didn't return to the earth. No, their dead and decaying flesh seems to be frozen in time now. Perhaps due to the rituals performed on them, or perhaps due to whatever lies at the end of the river. Either way, the creatures rise, they're killed, and they rise again hours later. That leaves us to our present [issue].' You say, 'What issue?' Dark Alchemist Illian furrows his brow. 'To be honest, I didn't want to involve outsiders, particularly since I'd have to award you with part of my pay regardless of the outcome, but I suppose I must. You see, the little wee Ogres are a tad too scared to go outside the city at the moment. Things are significantly more dangerous out here than in the safe confines of the city... if you can call the stinkpit Oggok that. And it is in large part due to the undead [threat].' You say, 'What threat?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'Simply put, Ogres are immune to what plagues those undead, but they are not immune to death. The undead are a threat because Ogres aren't smart. If they were smart, I wouldn't have to be hired to find a [cure] for the zombification.' You say, 'A cure?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'You're getting ahead of yourself. That's a bad habit.' He hmphs again. 'If you want to assist in this situation, I'm going to need your [word]. Not only that you'll do it, but that you'll survive, because I can't afford to pay your family benefits in the case that you're dragged into the river by a giant serpent or chopped to bits by the Tae Ew as the latest banquet meal.' You say, 'You have my word' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'Good, good.' He clears his throat and points directly southward. 'To the river fork that lines the borders of the Alliz Tae Ew's stomping grounds, I need you to survey the area, kill some of the walking undead explorers that litter the waterways, and return to me with some of their bile.' His gaze turns to whatever expression that gives. 'And no complaints if you want to be paid. I've work to do and cannot be bothered by whining. Get to it.' You have been assigned the task 'Protecting the Weak (Minded)'. A plague of undeath has been running across the Feerrott, keeping the young Ogres from leaving Oggok to save their lives. While ogres have not been particularly prone to undeath, they are not immune to death at the hand of the walking corpses. Dark Alchemist Illian has been hired by the Ogres of Oggok to investigate the undead and put a permanent stop to them, and has requested your assistance in the matter. Illian would like for you to investigate the fork in the river where the northern tip of the Tae Ew settlement begins. Slay the zombified fallen travelers and drowned explorers in the area and loot their bile to return to Illian for processing. Explore the fork of the river 0/1 (The Feerrott) This updates around -350, 720. Kill a few zombies and search them for their bile 0/5 (The Feerrott) The undead you need to kill are found in the Greenblood River that stretches through the zone. Collect a few zombie bile samples 0/3 (The Feerrott) Deliver 3 zombie bile samples to Dark Alchemist Illian 0/3 (The Feerrott) Speak with Dark Alchemist Illian 0/1 (The Feerrott) You say, 'Hail, Dark Alchemist Illian' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'For a while, I was afraid I'd lost you, or you found something new and shiny to take your interest.' The dark elf peers at the samples supplied, looking over their consistency. 'Thank you. This will do nicely. It will take some time to prepare it.' He pauses a beat and continues, 'You know, I had a [thought] while you were out.' You say, 'What kind of thought?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'You know, a thought. When something comes to mind, a spark of inspiration, knowledge or facts that come to the forefront.' After a round of sarcastic mockery, he looks you over again and mumbles a quick, 'Nevermind.' Clearing his throat, he continues, 'Beyond the river in the northwest, there are bands of gorillas... families if you will. Some of the adults look rather sickly and while I have not looked into it specifically, there may be a connection between those blighted mature gorillas and the zombification of the humans in the river. Are you up for more [dirty work]?' You say, 'Dirty work?' Dark Alchemist Illian says 'Same deal as with the explorers before. Find the blighted ones, put them out of their misery, then bring back their blood.' Explore a gorilla camp far to the north west 0/1 (The Feerrott) Kill a few blighted gorillas and search them for their blood 0/5 (The Feerrott) Collect a few blighted blood samples 0/3 (The Feerrott) Deliver 3 blighted blood samples to Dark Alchemist Illian 0/3 (The Feerrott) Speak with Dark Alchemist Illian 0/1 (The Feerrott) You say, 'Hail, Dark Alchemist Illian' Dark Alchemist Illian examines the blighted blood samples provided and gives a nod. 'This will certainly do,' he replies, turning back to his workspace. He immediately disregards anyone else around him as he mutters to himself, keeping his focus on his alchemy. After a long several minutes, he produces a small amount of supplies. 'I suppose you're ready for the [next step] in your job?' You say, 'What next step?' Dark Alchemist Illian passes the supplies onto you, and points to each in turn. 'First, while you were out the second time, I condensed the reactives in the bile you returned. It is now essentially "concentrated zombie". Don't drink it, don't sniff it, and don't rub your face in it. Not unless you want to be the next test subject, anyway. Next,' and he motions to the dark mass in another vial, 'that is the blood you returned, refined. Same deal; it's not food.' To a larger flask, he comments, 'This is a flask of my special agent. I don't care if you are an alchemist, or know an alchemist, but the elements in that flask are quite confidential. It's also an irritant, so don't get it in your eyes.' A final gesture goes to an empty [canister] with a nozzle attached, but doesn't say anything immediately. Combine the elements received in the canister 0/1 (The Feerrott) Test the cure on an unsuspecting zombie 0/1 (The Feerrott) Kill 1 an empowered fallen explorer 0/1 (The Feerrott) Loot 1 empowered zombie bile sample from an empowered fallen explorer 0/1 (The Feerrott) Deliver 1 sealed alchemic canister to Dark Alchemist Illian 0/1 (The Feerrott) Deliver 1 empowered zombie bile to Dark Alchemist Illian 0/1 (The Feerrott) Dark Alchemist Illian says, 'Well, this is unfortunate. I suppose you did what you could, though. I'm going to need some time to look over... these new developments. Here is your pay for your assistance so far, and know that I can use your help later.'
